Why would an assailant kill himself after murdering his victim? No one knew who he was (after the attempt) after all because he was wearing a helmet. The twist of the story, however, became gloomy after Satoko received a cut on her finger after struggling with the assailant.
The boss, perhaps, in his desire to get rid of Satoko's husband so he could take Satoko alone got frustrated after he realized that Satoko was still in love with her husband.
The ending of the plot could be, "If I can't get you, no one will!"

It's hard to judge with totally incomplete information, however, IMHO one-year old baby should be (compulsory) taken care of by the parents.
