Among them only about half a dozen are political prisoners. Most of them are drug-dealers and petty criminals.
There are more than 2000 POLITICAL PRISONERS still remaining in Myanmar prisons, including Aung San Suu Kyi , ethinic political leaders like Khun Tun Oo, elected NLD leaders and '88 generanation students group led by Min Ko Naing.
This exercise by the junta is design to relieve the pressure from the world as the UN generals assembly is commencing in a few days time..

That's what happened when a country's "Economic growth" far exceeds the growth of Democratic Reform" in that country.
Unprecedented corruption, poor standardisation procedures, news restrictions by the state ,etc. contributed to the problem.
I will 'NOT' be surprised if there's going to be more problems in the future with Chinese products.

May Mandela live long and be healthy. May Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma (known as the second Mandela) enjoys the same fate.

"....the big brothers were supporting Beshir! Thats OK."
Well.....political propaganda or not ,I have more respect for the ICC than those big brothers of Bashir, who have no moral value whatsoever.

Guys, NATO did help Cosovo even though there's no OIL in that place. Cambodia has no OIL ...but the WEST still helped the people there to get rid of their killer regime,Khamae Rouge. Hopefully, NATO and the West will help people of Zimbabwe and Burma(Myanmmar) to get rid of the despotic dictators there.

Zimbabwean government sounds more and more like Myanmar military junta. Have they been practicing the conversations together? Opposition party, democracy leaders in Myanmar were detained under the identicle excuse. But that was since May 2003 and the opposition leaders there are still under house arrest today, after more than 5 years.

Mugabe should follow the dirty tactics of Myanmar/Burma's military generals. Get at least 70% of people's votes by restrict them to vote in advance house to house vote collection (coerced by the officials). Using fear and bribery tactics is common as the official voting tickets bear the voter's name and details. Not many people dare to say 'No'.

Myanmar generals deny that they are ruling the country by fear and intimidation.... Myanmar generals deny that millions are facing starvation in Myanmar..... Myanmar generals deny that their referendum was the world's most obvious "vote rigging event".... It is safer for an impassive Than Shwe to allow hundreds of thousands of villagers in the Irrawaddy delta region to die rather than permitting a US relief mission to save them—a deadly decision indeed.
Than Shwe knows full well that millions of Burmese wait in hope for the arrival of US warships, and not only for the relief supplies they would bring.
