In order to help the people of Burma on their basic necessities , the greatest obsticle is the military (so-called) government itself. This has been proven time and time again. First,2 days before the cyclone, India and Thai officials warned Burma but the junta hushed up the weather warning on approaching cyclone, in fear of displacing people, as the junta is planning voting on the 10th . Second, the news blackout regarding the damage caused; no alert for help. Third, the soldiers were ordered to build voting booths and to provide security there instead of helping the victims. Gen Than Shwe came out to vote on the 10th.May (8 days after the cyclone) before he ackowledged the disaster on 12th May. Fourth, he had a tour of the delta by air two weeks after the cyclone, few days before the arrival of UNSGeneral. But still strongly blocking the international aid. No aid materials reached the delta. Fifth, after meeting the UNSG on 22nd, Than Shwe agreed to lift the blockage on 23.05.08(3 weeks after the cyclone). Sixth. It's media has written and spoken of free access by aid workers into the disaster area, but on the ground only 7 out of 45 UN workers who were allowed into the country on 28th got to travel to delta .

I don't care what some14some "THINKS" and spining anti-western propaganda. I am writing what I "KNOW" about "MY COUNTRY and MY PEOPLE's SUFFERINGS". Greedy generals do not give a toss about the dying people, it never had. Who cares about those wealthy countries' leaders some14some is talking about? I am talking about OUR Burmese people, who are not only starving but flattened under the military boots . Who will donate generously without checking (where their money goes) under such circumstances?

PepinGalarga; Billions of aid money were given to greedy contractors that made ...........kicking them out homeless"

The "greedy contractors" in Burma/Myanmar are the relatives of the generals themselves. The billions will disappeared into their pockets as usual.

some14some ; real aid works is being carried out by ASEAN, China, Thai and India,

What are you talking about? (western aid workers= spies ?) sounds exactly like stupid generals of Burma who lack experience in international relations . Who has been stopping the aid workers from entering the country ? the generals themselves. The international aid workers and western news media are doing EXCELLENT JOB in China; only guilty generals are paranoid.

All these generals care is how much CASH DONATION they can make out of this human disaster. The military in Burma cannot care less if aid materials stopped coming in for the victims. They already have written-off the victims in delta region. A relative, who is an army doctor told us that one person dies every 10 minutes in the delta-town he is in; they died out of starvation, diseases and lack of shelter. Before these starving victims are cared for just to continue living, junta's relatives have already won contracts to build government buildings, hospitals, houses etc. in the region;therefore that billions from donors is urgently needed.

why Chinese government should be angry at an individual opinion?

Because it is touchy, selfish and hypocrite. Look how it (china) cares for it's quake victims efficiently but it paralised the UNSC from responding to Burmese junta's barbaric blockage on cyclone relief efforts there. It certainly is "not investing on good karma". It will reap what it sow.

Chinese Karma , Burmese Karma , Pakistanese Karma, American Karma.... etc. etc. etc. ......everything that goes round will come round in one form or the other. This is call "Law of Nature". No one knows who's next and in what form. Read a bit more about Buddhism before anyone makes remarks on it. It is one of the oldest (2554 years old) philosophy, which can still be applied today. Good of you 'Sharon'.

Promises are worthless until they are delivered... 2.5 million cyclone victims can't wait any longer. It has already been "three weeks of waiting and two rounds of (nation-wide) voting since the cyclone" .

Mind you, the last uprising in Burma, and the one before that, and the one before that, and the one before that..they all happened without the presence of international aid workers. It WILL HAPPEN when the time is right, it is a matter of WHEN."

With or without the presence of International aid workers, due to lack of respect on human's lives and incompetence of the regime, people's anger will finish this leadership off. It is only a matter of time.

Rescue Mission is "just about to move" into Myanmar. But many with great causion as we are dealing with military leader who hardly kept it's promises in the past..... Myanmar's 2 million victims without any kind of help yet, need atleast 6 to 7 months of continuous relief works said UN Chief. THE RESCUE EFFORT IS FAR FROM BEING OVER, BUT JUST ABOUT TO BEGIN FOR 2 MILLION CYCLONE VICTIMS. ......Despite of the dreadful ordeal among the citizens, the junta went ahead with it's retifying process on referendum by forcing the victims to vote, today.... REMARKABLE!!!!

Nyein Chan, I've read all the above articles in "The New Lights of Myanmar", the state controlled papers. Mind you, the last uprising in Burma ,and the one before that , and the one before that , and the one before that... all happened without the presence of international aid workers. It WILL HAPPEN when the time is right. It is not a matter of "IF" but "WHEN". The generals know very well that the people will be glad to see the back of them beacuse of their brutal unfairness.Besides,it is the generals and government officials who need to practice law and order and restrain themselves from hoarding the country's resources as if there's no tomorrow..

Did you know that few weeks ago, at the U.N.Security Council meeting, CHINA BLOCKED the U.N Chief of Humanitarian Aid ,Mr.John Holmes from visiting Myanmar? I wonder what China would say if someone did the same to it's earthquake victims. What is China afraid of ? Why is it against Myanmar victims getting international attention?

China must stop it's shameful two-faced, hypocrisy on this humanitarian disaster in Myanmar. Let the international community take this regime to ICJ for "crime against humanity." China must stop paralysing the U.N.Security Council by shielding the Monk Killer, children murderer REGIME in Burma. Shame on you China, you beg for international help for your own people, but you STOP the Int'l. community from helping Burmese people and sided with the inhumane regime of Burma.

Obviously your sympathy lies with the junta who has been stopping the international aid for the last 3 weeks .But not with the 2.5 million Burmese victims.

because aid distribution work is proceeding smoothly and about to finish?

some14some; What you said is totally criminal. Where is a shred of evidence? Why were the local jounalists from (Myanmar Times, Yangon Times, The Voice, 24/7 magazines) the independent press were arrested in delta region on 20th, by the No. 66 Batallion Colonel and there picture confisticated? Why was Ban Ki-moon not taken to hard hit areas where hundreds of thousands of victims are gathered ,as Labutta, Bogalay , Haing Gyi and Myaung Mya but to the least suffered areas like Mawlamyaing Gyun and Ma-U-bin? Why were thousands of victims forcibly taken back to the destroyed villages in remote islands, where there are no more shelters?

If junta wants donations for reconstruction work, it should ask mainly from it's best mates China, Russia, Thailand and India.....after all, over the last decade, these countries benefit enormously from the military regime at the cost of us, the majority Burmese.

While Chinese leaders are asking for 3.3 million tents for their quake victims,....Myanmar's generals want CASH, before the basic need for the victims being fulfilled.

I absolutely agree with "Athlete". Generals are telling the world that the emergency rescue efforts is over. OVER?? while 2.5 millions are still under monsoon rain without shelters, thousands dying of thirst, lack of food and diseases but still haven't seen a shred of help from government, let alone international aid.....Myanmar's generals are calling for the next phase of reconstruction works because they can't wait to have their hands on the "CASH" donated by international community.

While Chinese leaders asking for 3.3 million tents for their earth quake victims,......Myanmar generals want CASH instead; refugees requirements do not take the first priority.

Where have you seen such resistance from a so-called government, profoudly resisted to save it's own people from dying by the thousands ? Gen.Than Shwe has made this humanitarian tregady into a political game. The first part of the disaster was natural disaster. But the second part is purely due to "POLITICAL DELAY" by myanmr's leaders. This situation has become complicated (because of Than Shwe's own paranoia), eventhough no country has any desire to remain there inside Myanmar after the rescue efforts. On top of the general's paranoia, xenophobia, narrow-mindedness and failure to access the realily, lack of respect on Myanmar people's lives is the ATTITUDE and ARROGANCE of this regime .
