This driver is completely off the rails. I bet he was brought up on the wrong side of the tracks.

What I don't understand about the tipping system in restaurants is that you tip after - how can you insure against your food being gobbed in if you tip after? The tip is then a reward for no phlegm? How would you know, in vichyssoise, for example?
As for tipping in taxis, excuse me? I would perhaps give the driver some money up front and ask him to shut up and keep his bigotry to himself, but at the end of the journey?

There wasn't any mention in the article of the flimsiness of his conviction, based on the testimony of a Maltese haberdasher who failed to pick him out of a line-up and has subsequently retired to Australia as a result of suddenly and mysteriously coming into a large amount of money.
There was also no mention of the group in Germany found to have tape-cassette bombs of the same kind as the one that destroyed flight 103, or the break-in at Heathrow into the baggage area before the flight's bags were loaded.
The whole case stinks.

So the US is the only country in the world with a medical R&D programme? So Glaxosmithkline and Bayer, the third and fourth largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, respectively, have no R&D programme?

Universal health care places a massive burden on the state by allowing the unsuccessful to survive, when it would be better for the human race as a whole if they didn't - passive eugenics - as opposed to the active eugenics policy employed in Canada until recently. A nice side effect would be that gang bangers would be less inclined to have gun fights if they had to pay for the health care for their wounds.
Of course, there might be further costs on the state if all the workers were too sick to work and pay taxes, and the costs of dealing with disease epidemics as a result of immunisation programmes being cancelled, but hey - the wealthy would still be all right - they could all live in gated communities.

The CIA were certainly complicit in their inaction in the bombing, and that may be one of the reasons the USA are so unhappy about this - he might write his memoirs before he carks it.

Western bloggers write in western languages, whilst Japanese bloggers prefer to use Japanese.
In terms of the people who comment on the news stories published here (not bloggers), there's little difference, both groups seem to have little or no grasp of English and both groups seem to be fervently and rabidly right wing.

In Portugal drug users are not considered criminals, but instead recognised as victims. Drug use remains illegal, but users don't get automatically get a criminal record and are offered the chance to reclaim their lives. In the United States drugs users are treated as criminals but drug use is nowhere more universal than in the prisons where drug users are punished.
Given the correct education regarding drug use and the availability of clean, unadulterated drugs, there is no sensible reason for their prohibition, except for general fear and hysteria.
It seems strange that drug use is most vociferously opposed by conservative parties who would most benefit from laxer drug laws. All the jobless, made redundant by conservative economic policies, need something to keep them occupied and off the streets. The most dangerous junkie is one who wants to get high, not one who can do so safely and easily.
Drugs do ruin lives, but if people were educated impartially about the risks they would be free to make the choice for themselves - isn't that what freedom is all about?

I feel great about legalising some drugs, bad about others. I think prussic acid should always remain a strictly controlled substance.
