Unless any of you know the details of why he wasn't prosecuted I would say that the guy did do an illegal thing. He got arrested for it. If there wasn't enough evidence, so what? It doesn't mean he did not do it. What a pervert. My grandmother once said, girls ruin boys. I tend to agree with her in some situations, this is a good one. I don't think he is going to stop his peeping. He will just be more careful next time. A for the wedding, well, obviously he is not ashamed of what he did.

Obama...what heading to become a loser, and I do not mean in the elections. There;s nothing different about him and other politicians. Has skeletons in his closet just like everyone else. The only problem was that he was presented as though he had none, which was a big turn off in my eyes.

WOW...by hanging. I bet that's a sight to see. No matter how bad the death penalty may seem I agree that it is necessary. For Miyazaki it was justly deserved. You cannot rehabilitate offenders like these. What's the point in having them rot in jail while tax payers pay.

I sure see some advertising for these type venues on JT. Why? I think it is funny how she says that well educated, perfectly repsectable women go to these places. If anyone knew them by name and face they no longer would be considered respectable. Like if people of this status cannot be weird, dirty, or freaks of some sort. Look at all those Butler Cafes coming up. The owners are mostly female oatku who have a thing for hard core gay porn manga and fashion these places and the boys form them. I hear the lines get really long and bookings weeks in advance. Many young high school girls go to these, those that like that sort of manga. Why in hell would I be interested in fantasizing about gay men. Well, I guess here in Tokyo there is something for everyone.

I hear Tokyo is better than Osaka and Kyshuu areas. I didn't have any problems while in Tokyo both times. In fact I guess you can say I fell within that "cone" Honen was talking about. Both my guy friends and their friends actually open the door for me and while on a trip to Mount Fuji brought a blanket to cover my legs while in the car in case I was cold. I've heard from others that Tokyo is a little more sophisticated and that's why I haven't had problems like some foreign women who go to Osaka area where they've had bad experiences. They said they had trouble with men grabbing/groping them. I'm glad my experince has been different.

This isn't funny but it is shameful. "People being people." To some degree this is true but in no way right. Very pathetic. "People"-these girls are under age. That ranks it as shameless and criminal period!

In Japan because I cannot bring anything like posters mentioned here into the country, I rely on my own sense of awareness about my surroundings and my intuition. I wouldn't know where to go in Tokyo, Japan to get proper defensive gear.

Sad thing. Young 16 year olds have no real idea or concept of what problems this willc ause them in the future. It is the adults responsisbility to not cross this boundary. You don't have to be from a western country to see the lack of reasoning/responsibility from scum like this.

"she has probably been at it for ages." What kind of comment is this? She's only 16 not 75. How pathetic some of these posting can get. Benefiting monetarily for the girl still does not mak eit okay when she will suffer mentally and who knows form what else as she ages. The males are the only ones benefiting here. Only because it has been part of culture for ages doesn't make it right. Tradition does not equal right.

It's nice to see people who care; that something good is shown after this tragic incident.

There is never a perfect or all encompassing solution to such an incident. I for one think having identified this guys mental state far in advance and intervention could have helped. Even his mother did not know how to deal with him. She acknowledge the change but nothing was done. Even the teacher interviewed sounded emotionless when discussing him as though he was some trash to be thrown away. Poeple in teaching jobs showed be supportive not like this. Mothers/fathers should have access to agencies that can help them. Knife regulations will not help, because in the end if someone wants a knife to commit a crime they will find one.

Has anyone given the thought that maybe this is a struggle by the Japanese human psyche of trying to break out of the constricting social enviroments that has been Japan for centuries? Eventually in democractic (I say democratic because those where it is dictatorship you are harshly dealt with) societies things must change. It's looking like it is Japan's time to look at all these social situations and allow for more independent thinking and living for their people.

rtrhead1...I agree with you. I've worked in an emergency room and 2 hospitals. In medical training and CPR training you are told to stop and help. Especially if you have some type of medical training. If you do not have protective gear readily on you then there are procautions to take when handling injured people. For one, I would stop without even thinking. I could just not stand by and watch or stroll by without a care in the world.

What was nice to see from such a horrible tragedy is Japanese people showing empathy with the whole incident and the victims. Posters here are always talking about how Japanese people are becoming desensitized when it comes to incidents like this and other type tragedies. I was glad to see that si not the case.

The first thing is to find out the top reasons for these suicides and to somehow detect signs to deter them if possible. TV announcements/spots on this by celebrities (TV or movie) that really hit hard at the topic will bring much self and community awarenenss. If you care about your cultural, neighbor, friend, family member it will matter.

So many of you believe this book...how pathetic! Like it was mentioned in an earlier post. This is all strategy and I doubt this guy has any credibility by the timing of the release. Everyone who dislikes Bush and the war will love this book even if it is not true. I for one felt we needed to go kick some ass after what they did in our country. Perhaps other countries will sit and have them blow up their cities away but I'm sure glad we did not stand by and say, well, we are just like every other country now. We had a president who took the bull by the horns and did what he had to. I supported him then and am sticking to it unlike many democrats that held hands and agreed and now go back on their word; so un- American. If anything is false about the reasoning behind going, do you really think Congress did not know before agreeing on this action? Please...it is all political.
