Snow aside this colder weather is actually a good thing in keeping those trapped waiting for help as they will not dehydrate as quickly if say it had been summer. Also, the bodies will keep longer in these colder temperatures without starting to rapidly decompose and smell thus not make the rescue and recovery teams’ jobs any harder than they already have ahead. I truly feel for all involved.

    to answer 'proxy's' question:

"In Japan, the western part of the country (Kyoto and west) uses 60 Hz and the eastern part (Tokyo and east) uses 50 Hz. This originates in the first purchases of generators from AEG in 1895, installed for Tokyo, and General Electric in 1896, installed in Osaka. The boundary between the two regions contains four back-to-back HVDC substations which convert the frequency; these are Shin Shinano, Sakuma Dam, Minami-Fukumitsu, and the Higashi-Shimizu Frequency Converter."

"The German company AEG (descended from a company founded by Edison in Germany) built the first German generating facility to run at 50 Hz. At the time, AEG had a virtual monopoly and their standard spread to the rest of Europe."

    infomation from "wikipedia"

I hope that helps answer your question.

to those of you that think this is sad... wake up, it still goes on after high school. I see it almost daily and sometimes I step in and tell people to lay off that person with a quote like "grow up already, enough with the bullying. what do you think this is a school yard play ground?"

Some people actually stop and think but most were bullies in school so they just continue on. Perhaps we should start treating bullies like adults when they are caught in schools and make them pay for their actions. That may change them quickly if they are taught to respect others or deal with their consequences.

    yummy, yummy!

Never been a suit person. Monkey suits just mean you are 'owned' by someone. It's also next to impossible for me to shoot people and not rip a suit in the armpit or crotch or tear up a knee. Jeans and t-shirts are the way to go when going to work. Pockets are stronger to in a pair of jeans.

limboinjapan - I have a better idea, seeing so many obese people have no problem with their being that way and often react like it is the person siting next to them's fault for complaining.

Here is what to do don't change the seats but put all the extra wide passengers in the same area right next to each other and watch how they all manage to fit in with each ones blubber mashing with the blubber of their neighbor, perhaps after a few flights like that, they will start thinking about losing some of that blubber.

Great idea!!! I think it will make them think that we are being unfair which of course is true to make a point because it's unfair to have to be forced to give up your space because some fatty can't control their urges.

The way I deal with people of fatness sitting next to me and spilling over the armrest is to pull the arm rest up until it's at a 45 degree angle. This pisses them off and they complain to the flight attendant which will see 'your' problem and move you to a less cramped seat. If fatty complains that it bothers them then you state that having your body pressing into you feels just as uncomfortable. Deal with the armrest in your side as it divides the seating area fairly and helps you stay on your side.

@ xpompey8: you think YVR to HND will be great but if you don't clear customs, grab your bag and high tail it to the monorail or Keio line quickly then it's a VERY expensive ride into Tokyo by Taxi or where ever you were heading once you arrived. You see, that flight AC005 arrives at 22:30 so you have very little time to get to where you are going before everything shuts down for the night.

Departure to YVR from HND is a 00:30 on AC006 which is really cool because you get to FULLY enjoy your last day before heading back if you're visiting Tokyo or Japan.

Usually the tourists that just found out how to get a passport are the worst. The ones that were born in a barn. The ones that think that everyone should be changing the signs over so they can read them. The ones that expect the food to be exactly like home when they're not home!!! It doesn't really narrow things down to a country but more to a state of mind that needs to change. When you go somewhere to visit someone elses country don't expect them to change for you. When in Rome...

@ nisegaijin - "Nor can I listen to my mp3 player during take off." how would you expect to hear an emergency announcement if you're cranking the tunes on your MP3 player? Let's just say you don't care about your life but if I'm sitting next to you and then we land really hard and you freak out because you didn't know what was happening and tried to crawl over top of me... well I would punch your lights out for having had you MP3 player on during takeoff and landing. Got the message? It's safety and not profits in that case.

It's funny but shipping from Japan to Canada and the U.S. with EMS, UPS or FedEx is cheaper then sending to Japan from the U.S. and WAY cheaper than from Canada to Japan. Go figure...

Back then it was a waste to save a guilty person only to off them once they got their rocks off proving what a bad boy that person was and it still holds true. Just let them off themselves and save us the time and effort to in the end come to the same ending.

Only reason this poll is popping here is due to this year's hotter than normal summer in Japan. Mean while back home I here they had a very normal super NICE summer. Last year it was a bit brutal in July but then again knee jerk reactionaries only look at the last few years. Blame the Sun, Cosmic rays and things far beyond our control for "Global Warming". Blame ourselves for localised smog, bad water, etc. Don't be Al Gore puppets!

For anyone saying she looks hot in this picture, you need to get glasses! Wow, you guys need a better monitor as well. She looks bagged as in tired and the makeup sure as heck doesn't help. A set of knee high boots and a 45 degree head tilt does not make for a hot girl. Face looks a bit squarish too. But what the hell do I know, I only shoot and edit models photos daily so I guess I'm quite jaded.

Hmmm, China gets a taste of being American for a short stint and now they want it all. Tough, try working the way you use before everything went so rosey if you can't handle today's pay and standards. I'm sure they are far better than the crap hole that was China before the rise before the fall.

Maybe they were unbuttoning because they were headed off to the pool to get out of that bloody Tokyo heat! I mean really, when you're rolling out of bed and it's already 29c why even wear pants and note I meant 'pants' and NOT 'pantsu'? Roll out of bed in your swim wear and head straight for a beer!

People... grab a clue! This is real life. NO photoshop, REALLY BAD, HARD light (sunlight) and mostly unscripted chucking a ball with really no thought to how sexy or NOT her legs, arms or 'tummy' would look.

Photoshoots and video work is scripted and edited to the point of perfection. All those print and video images you look at couldn't be further from the real thing so keep your crappy, catty comments to yourselves because what you're in love with doesn't exist. It's not just a model and a camera but $$$$$ of grip equipment, lighting and/or strobes, MUA, HS, WS on a photoshoot and even more for video.

How can he even be charged for this? This is almost along the line of the movie "Minority Report". The guy thought about it and went there but didn't follow through. He then told the manager to report him to the police for his 'impure thoughts'? WTF?!? How about askingthe guy what the real problem is?

I myself would consider taking Japanese citizenship just so that I don't have to carry that god-awful ID card arond all the time. It doesn't sound like much on the oppression scale, but when you consider that you have to remember to carry it every time you leave home, the psychological burden (and risk of identity theft if you get pickpocketed) can add up. Let people have dual citizenship!

Dream on ThonTaddeo! First if you don't look Japanese then you will get carded on the street whether or not you are a Japanese citizen afterall how would they know you are a Japanese citizen? Are you going to carry proof stapled to your forehead to prevent the public carding?

Forty-five countries — about one in every four democracies — offer some sort of voting rights for resident aliens, according to David Earnest, author of “Old Nations, New Voters,” an extensive study of why democracies grant suffrage to non-citizens. These range from first-world powers such as the United States, Canada, the UK and other European Union members, to less preeminent nations like Malawi and Belize.

Last I checked you must be a citizen of Canada to vote so this story seems to have less that creditable information.
