The U.S. has a population of just over 306 million people.

About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu. ( http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/disease.htm )

There are 6.78 billion people on this planet so using a 1st world nation's death rate ( the U.S. ) for the common flu is a fairly conservative way to figure out how many would die world wide from the the common flu EVERY YEAR which would be 797,200 DEAD ( pretty sure the number is WAY higher) and that is the normal FLU not this FANCY Swine flu that they claim is far worse because CNN and NHK scare you into believing the hype. So far only 76 confirmed dead with this strain of the Flu.

Remember SARS During November 2002 through July 2003, a total of 8,098 people worldwide became sick with severe acute respiratory syndrome that was accompanied by either pneumonia or respiratory distress syndrome (probable cases), according to the World Health Organization (WHO). Of these, 774 died. By late July 2003, no new cases were being reported, and WHO declared the global outbreak to be over. ( http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/sars/faq.htm )

Remember the how the world almost stopped traveling because of all the hype? Remember the fear created by the media and how Japan went right off the deep end? Nah, history isn't repeating its self again...

Now if you really want to worry about something that you can prevent think about this: Around 1.5 million people die each year worldwide due to smoking-related diseases, a rate of one death every 13 seconds. ( http://www.emro.who.int/Publications/HealthEdReligion/Smoking/QA.htm )

For Japan, over 336,000 people die in that country from cancer and most of these have lung cancer. http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Many-People-Die-From-Cancer-Each-Year?&id=2038102

"RichardtheFirst at 02:36 PM JST - 19th May

Amazing that Japan is now fourth, and the only country not in N.America too. It will be second or top by the time this thing is over. The govt must be scratching its head wondering how this has happened, as it seemed that the country was rather smug about the lack of cases a few weeks ago, but now look. Wildfire..."

Maybe it started in Japan and it was someone leaving Japan for Mexico that started Mexico's outbreak... Really I'm joking but at this point does it really matter? It's the Flu and this sort of thing happens so just move along. Nothing to see hear except for a country full of mask wearing sheep. Bhaaaa, bhaaa, bhaaaaa, bhaaa.

"Health and Welfare Minister Yoichi Masuzoe indicated that airport quarantine efforts would be scaled down and urged flexibility in anti-flu measures since the swine flu is now believed to be no more infectious than seasonal influenza. Health officials want to make sure that hospital beds are not clogged up with mild patients and that business and community activities are not paralyzed due to overreaction."

    TOO LATE!!!

    I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY NOW!!!

The really should rename the "Swine Flu" to "Sheep Flu" because it really shows just how people are like sheep and couldn't stop for one minute to think for themselves. This is really showing that people are doomed if they can't stop and take a moment to think for themselves.

Case in point, I was buying porkchops for a little BBQin' and people where looking at me like I had a deathwish because I was going to catch the swine flu from eating pork. SERIOUSLY!!! I just lowered my head and walked away because I couldn't believe people could be soooo clueless.

BurakuminDes just wait until you get stop but what looks like an Akiba chubby Otaku who quickly whips out his ID and then asks you for yours. "YEAH RIGHT 2CH FATTY" is what I first thought and asked to see his ID again which I looked at really closely and in doing so caused the rest of his posse to come out of the woodwork. Now this dude did not have manners nor did he understand that I would be late for work if I made a return trip to my place to get my card. I had switched wallets from the night before and had forgot to transfer that card. Anyway, he had two keystones on bicycles follow me all the way back home just to show them my card which I did and then they where all cool and thanked me. Well, I couldn't get them to write me a note as to why I was late because they claimed it was my fault I didn't have my card on me. Yeah Japan is a pleasant place to live EXCEPT for the NAZI moments.

For all of you worried about "big brother" tracking your every move just remember that if you have a Suica, PASMO, ICOCA, PiTaPa, etc. you are already being tracked.

Now if you are really worried about the 'chip' in the new to be cards then just chuck it in the microwave and give it about 10 seconds. That should 'nuke' the chip. Not sure what kind of hell you'll catch when they actually try to read the card right in front of you but then "these things happen" you can claim. :)

BTW, all these stupid new laws only make me hate that part of Japanese culture even more which I think is truly sad. I visited Japan some 50+ times before I moved here. Funny how I never saw that disgusting part of Japan until I moved to Japan.

Everyday, I now just feel more and more that as a foreigner I am not really welcome and only just another concern for something going wrong to be blamed for.

It's almost as if I was 21 again and was driving around in my heavily modded out car back home which would always seem to be a heat-score even though it was 100% street legal except for now the ONLY reason I get stopped is because I'm NOT Japanese and I guess that means I don't look legal.

That's OK Japan Inc., keep on going with this ass-backward way of treating the people that may actually keep Japan Inc. going in the future. Afterall, Japanese sure as hell aren't doing their part to make sure that there will be someone left to run Japan Inc. (having babies in case you didn't figure that out). So let Japan Inc. keep pissing away any chance to have foreigners want to live in a place where they are pretty much look down upon even though we know some Japanese clearly wish they were them (odd, ne?). Well when the crap hits the fan, I surely don't want to be around and if that happens during the summer, that will not be a pleasant way to make your exit.

OH PLEASE JUST SHUT UP ALREADY with all this doom and gloom that we are killing everything and just sell us your product already. This BS media circus claiming that we (HUMANS) are cooking this planet alive is really getting old. These same idiots were claiming in the '70's that we were heading for an ice age. So now all these reports about this damage we've done over the last 50-60 years forgets their own reports from just 30 years ago?

How about this try out what Germany has done with green energy and go from there. Everything else is just crap unless it's Scottish!

Too funny how Japanese would be so worried about an "overview peek" into their tiny yards when the ENTIRE neighbourhood second floor and above can always see what's going on and really that's who you really have to watch out for... YOUR NOSEY NEIGHBOURS!!!

When I was showing friends my old neighbourhood in Tokyo and we were on a street view tour of the area I actually spotted my bike parked in front of my building. Actually, it was really funny as it was my friends that said "HEY THERE'S YOUR BIKE!!!"

I guess those that worry have something to hide. Chances are they live with the curtains closed ALL THE TIME. Well, I do most of the time because I just don't want to end up on YouTUBE for my lack of wardrobe during the sticky weather season. :P

"The 30 year-old man was backing his car out of a parking space at the restaurant when he mistakenly ran over his oldest daughter and her 6-year-old cousin. The girl was pulled beneath the car and sustained serious injuries, while the man’s nephew received mild head injuries.

According to police, the two children had gotten out of the car, and the man had not realized they were still in the parking lot when he moved the vehicle."

To me it sounds as if they were leaving the restaurant. As usual this would not have occured if the rear doors had the child safety lock on and/or the driver had backed into the spot instead of nose in. I guess this is the only way some will learn and then not even.

Yes NRT is a bit far from Tokyo and can be a bit of a pain if you're needing to transfer to HND for a DOM FLT but as far as actual services go, not bad. Both terminals have great access from Keisei and JR lines. Overall check in, security and gates are good and really the only fault that maybe given is the "box like" plain-ness of some parts of the overall design whether it be the older parts or the recently re-done T1.

Plenty of places to waste time if there are delays so overall not bad. I'd rate it at 8.5 out of 10 as far as airports go.

Come on people, they are REALLY trying their best to look normal with such little details as that TOTALLY NON-MATCHING bag the prince is holding.

Cut them some slack. Someone had to come up with the idea because no one I know would purposely carry such a bag while wearing such cloths. I mean really!!! ;)

"The swine flu virus that has frightened the world is beginning to look a little less ominous."

Funny considering it was the media that made it SO FRIGHTENING!!!

I think that media outlets should be fined for their part in damaging an already frail world economy with such self serving stories. The fines collected should go to repairing the damage caused by loss of business due to over hyping a common flu by making it into the "end of the world scenario live at 5 story".

Just in case you missed it here are some simple facts I found to put things into perspective about this “swine flu”.

    • In Mexico, the outbreak's epicenter, new cases and the death rate were leveling off, the country's top medical officer said. Health authorities there have confirmed 343 swine flu cases and 15 deaths from the virus. ( http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30398682/ )

    • Mexico has a population of around 107 to 111 million people depending on where you get your facts from.

    • The U.S. has a population of just over 306 million people.

    • About 36,000 Americans die on average per year from the complications of flu. ( http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/disease.htm )

    • There are 6.776 billion people on this planet so using a 1st world nation's death rate ( the U.S. ) for the common flu is a fairly conservative way to figure out how many would die worldwide from the common flu EVERY YEAR which would be 797,200 DEAD ( pretty sure the number is WAY higher) and that is the normal FLU not this FANCY Swine flu that they claim is far worse because CNN and NHK scare you into believing the hype.

Some Mexicans interviewed claim it came from Canada because they saw one Canadian that was sick and then everyone else became ill. Yes, that is how misinformed people can get if someone lets their mouth run off 'stories' that are just that, stories, because they have NO actual FACTS!!!

And I though I was a go out by myself kind of person alone in Japan. Oddly, my wife is exactly the same as me and we have no problem relaxing at home but yet not needing to entertain each other. There's a time a place for everything and this is how some people wish to relax. Nothing wrong if they can relax in country where the stress of being always at someone's call is just too much to take sometimes.

Wow, I am amazed that they still do anything in Den Den Town. Over the last 4 years I've seen the place go downhill so quickly. Shops closing, buildings disappearing, lots of empty lots and then a 'mansion' type building falls into place taking away from what makes Den Den Town the place to go.

Of course nothing will beat Akiba for the overall Otaku Mecca life but seeing this Street Festa at least makes you think that Den Den Town isn't completely dead yet.

Two MSDF destroyers leave for antipiracy mission off Somalia

Hmmm, at first I thought this should have read "off China" to curtail all that illegal DVD copying going on. Then I read further and thought oh so now Japan will just sit off the coast of Somalia waiting to be fired upon so they can defend themselves. How will that help others?

NOT CUTE!!! They try too hard to be cute like American girls try too hard to be sexy. It makes the Japanese girls look like plastic overly done dolls that are more than a few dozen cards short of a full deck.
