Bag snatchers usually use cars though i.e. drive by and snatch the purse. It is much more dangerous since if the victim does not let go of the bag, she may get dragged to her death. Here the guys seems to be on foot - sounds like an amateur.

I wonder whether these kind of crimes are increasing lately due to economy going south. It would be nice to see some stats.

Boring article. Nothing new here; move on.

Japanese are not good at inter-personal skills. It is due to their upbringing. They surpress their emotions, are told not to get involved with others' personal affairs, they do not want to get involved in risky/unhappy situations, etc... As a result, they are cold people. It is as simple as that.

And no, going out for drinks after work does not mean you have friends. It means you have acquaintances. If you want close friends, most of the time you have to go further than the work environment - most probably to your school days. It is the old friendships that mostly bring close friends.

I also do not believe Japanese can have close friends. Close friend is someone you can share your personal stuff with (either good or bad), someone who knows you for a long time. Japanese run away from anything bad and do not want to get involved - sunny days friends only. It is how they are. Very difficult to change at this point. You do not learn this stuff from books or teachers. You have to grow with it, see it around you.

I am trying to get a guy in my office to call his close friend from his university days since the friend's father got some serious illness. I mean talk with him. He says mailed from his keitai and does not want to disturb him since it is his family matter. Wtf are you calling him a friend for then? Friends talk with each other. That is what they are for. They share burdens AND happiness.

Anyway, move on folks. Nothing new here.

PS: Looking at what I wrote, my observations are mostly from Tokyo. This thing might be different in rural areas.

How did they get their hands on this meat then? Is it from the scientific hunts in the Pacific i.e. Japanese suppliers?

What a peculiar expression. Cannot tell whether Asada is pissed off/upset/unhappy. Most probably all.

Congratulations to all in any case. Chin up!

Very sad story. Can't help but wonder whether any condition on the flight caused him to go into a cardiac arrest.

One would think if there was a physical condition, it would come out in the autopsy.

That is the dumbest load of ** I have ever heard.

If they put this thing, then do it right. Women should only go to women's toilet. I do not want to see (women) and (women/men) toilets on the plane. Complete segregation.

I also make it a point to ask the waiters when I go in if there are any non-smoking areas. And I tell them I probably wouldn't go back if they don't.

I sometimes wonder how those non-smoking areas are designed. Most of the time I see smoke drifting from smoking areas to non-smoking due to bad air-conditioning, seating design,etc... Annoys the hell out of me.

    So?

The last time I checked smoking & second-hand smoking were dangerous. Who cares if they oppose? Would they put their wallets above human life? (/sarcasm) Just shove it down their throat.

I also do not understand someone making a comment like this. Did he make this comment out of the blue? He is setting the ground for an opposition even if other parties may not think of one. Maybe there is some more background to this that I am not aware of.

Anybody know where I can view the results of the Japanese research on whaling, if that is what they are doing? Also details of what they are researching every year?

    Cheers

    Tough.

Hunting those guys in the mountains is a difficult job. What is going on is not a conventional war but a guerilla war. Less reliance on technolgy, more reliance on footwork, intelligence - if you can get them. Taliban are terrorists to outsiders but they seem to have supporters among many of locals. That is why this war is dragging on.

If you cannot get good intelligence, which in turn relies on trust and - well, shall we say - benefits in some cases, this fight will take longer.

US and other nations should not expect a quick result in Afghanistan.

They are supposed to cry or look as if they are going to jump off Rainbow Bridge any second.

It is part of the package of competing in international tournaments in Japan. Athletes have to look miserable if they lose otherwise people will not believe they 頑張りました。

They should cry and we should see their tears and/or watery eyes in close-up, covering the whole screen in sports programs, which discuss what went wrong.

Athletes are similar to タレントs here in Japan and this comes with the job.

Toyota could have handled this much much better and in a professional way. This whole thing has been a business ethics & PR disaster. They have to blame themselves for blowing this out-of-proportions.

This is an interesting article for anyone who has the time to read.
