So if Japan signs the Hague convention, everything will be OK? This Hague Convention is sounding to me more and more like a magic wand that will set everything right. However I do not like magic wand concepts that much. I guess I need to search much more about this. We are planning to have a kid with my Japanese wife and these news scare the heck out of me.

How is generational change going to come when most of the politicians hand their seats over to their sons? Being a politician is hereditary.
Posted in: The longer Ozawa stays, the longer he reinforces the impression that political change is impossible — with the result that Japan might have to wait for wholesale generational change to advance reforms.

Just remove the website, then. Why keep it?
Seriously.. all these news agencies think people have no idea of what is going on until they tune in to their channels, websites, etc...

It is not just the access to information. That could be a contributing factor but there is more. There is more going on in mainland Asia right now - business wise and consequently news wise.
Quite a few foreign companies that I know moved their regional offices to Hong Kong and/or Singapore since China, India, and Singapore and strong markets and there is a big interest in those from Western companies. Also those countries are also logistically more convenient to cover whole of Asia for the business and news teams than Japan.
Let's face it those moves would not have happened if people believed that mainland Asia economic boom was short-lived. It seems the expectation is Japan will lose its status as the sole economic power in Asia, although other countries do have a LOT to catch up to.
I believe we will see some interesting times in the future here in Asia.

The article does not say how long she was in the drug store. Maybe she just rushed to buy some stuff and was not expecting to get delayed. Sounds as if the door was unlocked though unless the guy did not break the window.
Until more info is present, I would not rush to accuse the mother. It is difficult to keep watch over childeren 100% of the time.

I do not know about food (since I very rarely throw it away) but I wanted to give my old stuff away to someone in need couple of weeks ago (they are old but in good shape - not in tatters). My wife said noone would take them. Acoording to her, if we want to give away some stuff to the needy, then they have to be brand new. We ended up throwing it away. I felt bad. There are many people where I come from, who would thank me over and over again if I gave away such stuff, but not in Japan it seems.

Go ahead and have multiple babies like your parents. The questions is who will take care of them financially? Japan may be rich as a country but not as individuals.
Even if both parents are working, in a country where most people are salarymen or salarywomen I doubt it is realistic to have multiple kids in many families.

TheRat: I agree. Marriage is against human nature. It just is not natural for people to spend years together with the same person. I like the idea of limited marriages though.

Shame about the temple. But the Buddisht monks should not get upset too much. After all, it is not about worldly belongings, right?

I do not see any reason as to why US authorities are complaining about this. Japan is a customer. They do not want spinal bones or whatever in their orders. They are PAYING for it. They have the right to complain or stop purchasing when their demands are not met.
Allow defected goods in your shipment. Get caught. And then start complaining Japan's rules are too strict. Sour grapes is all what this is.
I am wondering whether anyone takes the responsibility for this in US. Do the trade authorities reprimand those who break such rules since they endanger the rest of law-abiding companies in case Japan puts an all-out ban on US? Gotta google it..
