Unfortunately for Mr. Gemba, history dictates that China does not really understand (or intentionally ignores) the norms and logics of international rules and treaties...

A lot of people who use the Japan Rail Pass does. It's a whole lot easier using N'EX to get to Tokyo, Yokohama, Shinagawa or Shinjuku compared to the Keisei Skyliner, especially if you have a healthy amount of luggage.

Some of the Japanese commercials are outright creative and others are pretty funny. Personally, I like the Boss Coffee Spaceman Jones and the olf Fanta school teacher series. I also like the CM's by railway companies like JR (JR East Shinkansen anniversary series and the recent JR Kyushu Shinkansen wave across Kyushu).

gogogo,
I don't think that seat selection processes are limited to domestic flights. I seem to recall that my colleagues and I bought and selected seats for an LAX-NRT-ORD flight on AA through AA.com. (Not by choice, I would have much more preferred to have flown NH instead)
Man... it's getting tiring how AA is trying to put a good spin on various "new programmes" which seem to actually limit what many passengers had access to all along in the past...
I'm already pissed about how AA is planning to limit the chances of AAdvantage members achieving lifetime elite status by restricting the eligible miles which would get counted towards the one million/two million miler's club. (beginning December 1, 2011)

gogogo:
One example: Japanese (or other foreign nationals) who are in the US with valid visas (such as E, H-1B, L, etc.) or who are permanent residents would have US addresses.

One of the rare times I'll side with the Mods. Non-US citizens who are members of AAdvantage programmes can utilize this service.

Now only if AA could make its entire trip more "preferable" in the eyes of trans-Pacific travellers... I still prefer Asian carriers (SQ, NH, JL, CX) over AA, DL or UA...

Shinkansen would NOT need a second driver, if the primary concern was safety. Their current system covers it well, since if there is any anomaly, including if the driver fell ill, the default protocol would be to stop the train in question (and also all nearby trains) immediately. The stopping can be handled by a "dead-man's switch" system and also by ATC controls.

The Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen travels through 2 JR jurisdictions, JR Tokai from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka and then JR West from Shin-Osaka to Hakata. Train drivers will not operate the entire route. As a matter of fact, Any Nozomi from Tokyo to Hakata will have an exchange of its driver, conductors and concession staff at Shin-Osaka. As such, in this case, the driver in question likely boarded and operated the train from Shin-Osaka, and was approaching the second stop (after Shin-Kobe).

Of course, an additional interesting part about theSoviets' internment of the Japanese was that the Soviets reneged on a non-agression treaty between the two countries...

Rather impressive turnout on the 21st considering the general topic being relatively blacked out from the regular media in Japan. Would also be interesting to see if their push against major sponsors (e.g., boycott of Kao products) of programmes at Fuji would have effect.
Either way, perhaps the protestors should push lawmakers to pass a law like the one that South Korea has that would limit the amount of permitted foreign produced content/programmes broadcast over terrestrial TV.

Hell, why would the masses ever respect the concept of intellectual property rights when the entire government lacks the inetrnational norm (i.e., claiming that the Chinese HSR technology is "home grown" despite claims of EU and Japanese companies who supplied the technology...)
