Actually, this is just a prelude for the Norks to ask for more aid. And every time, the Norks break their promises. Tell the Norks that we'll have to sleep on it before we get back to them.... and let them starve a little bit more.

You'd think that despite the attempt at censorship, the damage has already been done. Or, do they actually think that they can make this go away, like Tienenmen Square Massacre didn't happen?

Who would want to steal already stolen technologies which seem to fail when improperly used? If the world wants to gain HSR technology, all they have to do is go to the actual source, which would be JR, SNCF, ICE, Siemens, Talgo, Alstrom, Kawasaki Heavy, et.al.

We figured that the Chinese HSR was due for accidents, but who would've guessed that it would be this quick and this spectacular? Let's also see how successful the CCP will be in censoring and controlling the information outflow on both the inetrnet and the media to contain the embarrassmet (although most of the damage seems already done)...

With the added fact that the Chinese authorities seem to not care about determining the cause of the disaster nor taking any care to preserve evidence (rather it seems that they want to destroy evidence by tampering and burying the rollingstock), I would believe most of the world would continue to lose faith in the Chinese HSR system... there's no chance for improvement if they don't try to learn from their mistakes...

Defending its decision to bury the wreckage, the Railway Ministry said the trains contained valuable "national level" technology that could be stolen and thus must be buried.

Who would want to copy that failed technology? Especially when the whole world knows that they can get the better version of it at Siemens or Kawasaki Heavy?

In general, I would think that mostn high speed train operation are safe. That would be, mainly Japanese and EU based (Spain, German, French), although the ICE and TGV have had fatalities in the past. However, that was over a great amount of time. The Chinese HSR, however, have not yet proven that they can be safe in spite of their boasting of superior technology (which "their technology" is questionable at best), rather, they showed that it only took a short amount of time in their operation to have a major derailment with fatalities. It takes a little more than copying blueprints of rolling stock to be able to safely operate a high speed rail system.

Agree with SamuraiBlue. Anyone can build trains that goes fast. The key is to be able to operate at high speed safely.

RIP Passengers... but wow... it didn't take long at all for the Chinese HSR's to supass the Japanese in what the Japanese haven't done since 1964 (have a collision and derailment fatality in the HSR service)

How about updating the aging 777-200's that they fly on the trans-continental flights? The ones flying the LAX/ORD/DFW-NRT are so ratty, dirty and its equipment always falling apart that it's insult to injury with the ugly, obese, geriatric FA's to boot... I avoid AA (and UA and DL) to every extent possible. It's night and day when flying SQ, NH or CX as opposed to US carriers on trans-pacific flights.

The Chinese will counter by stating that Apple replicas are actually Chinese technology developed by "digesting" U.S. knowhow...

But seriously... have they no shame?

Otherwise, you'll be hitting yourself on the head wondering why I bought this Japanese tin can when I could've had strong American steel.

If you're thinking about getting "strong American steel" luxury, you're better off getting a BMW X3 made in S. Carolina since the Kuga is manufactured in Saarlouis, Deutschland...

Ford is not luxury. Perhaps their Lincoln line is borderline, but not the Ford label. Most of the world sees Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, BMW, Mercedes, Cadillac etc., as luxury. I'd take a Lexus over a "luxury" Escape, Mustang or Explorer, any day. Or even a hecho en Mexico Ford Fusion.

Given the choice, you would think that most Japanese diplomats would have flown JAL or ANA anyway even before this mandate over KAL or Asiana.
