Hopefully Toy-ota has learned making the most cars hardly makes you the BEST and the millions of poor quality (in some cases deadly) cars produced has been overcome to make them not only the biggest producer but more importantly the BEST which other car manufactures have found out to be the real mark of the BEST and the true target to strive for.

US bases are never under civilian authority, they are all controled by UCMJ law as well as the soliders all over the world even if they are off base... It would be to complacted to be controlled by civilian law due to no place is the same...except when you cross on any US military base you are allways under UCMJ law even if you are a civilian crossing on the base..

@Patrick Smith, Good point on economics as why it cost so much, I agree it shouldn't.
The rest on "foul" and nobody wants it was purely personal taste... I'm guessing most won't try it because many are only afraid others would consider them "evil" for doing so because they are to pretty. I also agree whales are one of the masterful creatures and besides they taste good, but that's my own personal taste.

@Psmash
“Research has absolutely proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that whaling in the Antarctic is not sustainable”
Surely you can’t be naive enough to believe "some" of the species of whales can’t be taken, you must be reading research printed by the SS. I think the shadow is now clouding good reasoning.
If the “real” research numbers are out there, then they would also include the species numbers required before some “NO ALL” can can be harvested and how many that is!!! What are those numbers.
Also you quote research without understanding it doesn’t come free.. Sometimes side benefits though “like whale meat to eat” HaHa

Many laws over time need to be eliminated or enhanced due to current conditions or change in relevant conditions, as was the basis for stopping whaling in the first place, it was due to over harvesting the population of “some” whales, It was the right thing to do too protect the species from over harvesting then. NOT because they were pretty…
Now the real challenge to the law should be if the populations can be sustained if (we - I’m American) can harvest some for their resources?? Not because they are pretty, many foods we eat are pretty. I personally like to eat “whale” and many other pretty foods because they are good…
The SS would do better to prove that ALL whales are “still” endangered, which I think is the real problem for SS because they can’t base facts… so the prey on weak people’s feelings that whales are “pretty” and they classify all the species as just whales.

This seems to be happining very offten now to this once considered by many as a good automaker, it took Toyota a long time in the USA/World before it was accepted as making quality autos, just glad nobody was hurt "yet" this time except for Toyota name. May be time to get back to just making better autos and not try too just outproduce everybody else.

Mr. Obama got elected by the weak on his pledge that wars and sanctions aren't need if you just talk nice to people and he would stop all US fighting against eval, close Getmo, put our nation back on track.... of which he hasn't accomplished anything except learning the GOP was right after all and he has been trying to follow more in their steps all the time... I cant see why so many supported him when he ran that the GOP was wrong and now he's learned they were right and follow their path they still support him... I will vote for GOP and hope we can recover from his slow learning.

My government says I should ask Japan authorities for reliable info...
" LONG-TERM RESIDENTS: The risks may be higher for U.S. citizens who reside for more than one year within 80 kilometers of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant. Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that U.S. citizens who choose to reside for more than one year within 80 kilometers of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant consult with local authorities to receive current guidance on expected levels of radiation and recommendations for reducing exposure to radiation. In addition, pregnant women, children, and the elderly should avoid residing within 30 km of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant."

It doesn’t matter so much who owns the Dept its still "Dept" no matter what else. If you have the natural recourses (farming land, fisheries, forestry, mineral) and work force also some extent military to protect it from others then you are capable to pay back your dept. The big question?? Is your country capable no matter what continent its in.

This single US west "left" coast judge does not speek for me as an american, please don't be misguided to think he represents Americas view... I strongly support whaling and think the worlds view of whaling needs to be changed as times have changed now that almost all whales are no longer indangered as was the reason to stop whaling to start with... Whales need to be managed to keep supplies and harvested same as anything else. EAT MORE WHALE

I'm allways amused and wonder how many years you have to be in school before you are qualified to make a statement like "Japan has potential to have another large quake and engineering (safety) need to be considered...." and they get published, media print, TV and also sure they "earn" a good income, life is good for some people.

You can't please all the people all the time.... What about Mr Nago ignoring the wishes of the Okinawan's that want the Base and Marines to stay because they have made a living and or business servicing this base, there will now be 4,000+ less "people" (Marines) to provide for and that won't be spending there money in the Okinawan economy (Japan).
