Successive empires have found to their chagrin that Afghanistan is where they go to die. Not being a very astute student of history, the US has been condemned to make that same mistake. Death, slowly and publicly. But would they listen? Good_Jorb above makes an excellent point. Not to mention that in the past 24hours the US administration seems to have given Karzai the cold shoulder, after the CIA links to his drug-lord brother were made public. The Taliban have very local interests. They want foreigners off their land. They're not afraid to fight for years and years and years to achieve that. Like Mao said, "Guerrilla war is only over when the guerrillas decide it is." Over to you NATO & Obama?!

Typical leftist hypocrisy, and more attacks on our liberty.

That's just rich! THE greatest attacks on Americans' liberty took place under successive GOP administrations. W took the biscuit, with warrantless wiretaps, DHS, the so called Patriot Act etc. etc. etc. American's sold their liberty for a false security.

"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Ben Franklin, Feb 17 1775. Ya shoulda listened! Last I looked "All men are created equal...." meant just that, ALL men (and women too of course.)

Is it that anything done at night is some how less respectful?

Not necessarily, but there is supposed to be a new openness in the current administration. I, like many, am very suspicious of stuff that goes on either behind closed doors, or under the subterfuge of night.

    eigonosensei,

"Jihad" means a spiritual battle between yourself and sin.

Almost. In the Holy Qu'ran it says that "jihad" is the efforts a follower of Allah, BBHHN, must make to ensure that s/he is not prevented from exercising his/her religious duties and obligations. BBC designates it as follows: The literal meaning of Jihad is struggle or effort, and it means much more than holy war.

Muslims use the word Jihad to describe three different kinds of struggle:

    * A believer's internal struggle to live out the Muslim faith as well as possible
    * The struggle to build a good Muslim society
    * Holy war: the struggle to defend Islam, with force if necessary

Many modern writers claim that the main meaning of Jihad is the internal spiritual struggle, and this is accepted by many Muslims.

However there are so many references to Jihad as a military struggle in Islamic writings that it is incorrect to claim that the interpretation of Jihad as holy war is wrong. Jihad and the Prophet

The internal Jihad is the one that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is said to have called the greater Jihad.

"Suspected militants" my astrolabe! This is a deliberate CIA/Mossad effort at destabilizing Pakistan, seizing their nukes, and making Pipelinistan a whole lot easier to deliver oil to Haifa. Read between the lines folks, read between the lines.

Your into jet noise and flight-ops during this transfer?

What an inane comment! You and I both know ALL traffic would be diverted if the POTUS was to show up. Heck, they even shut down the Rhine for W! The RHINE for heaven's sake! Surely a runway or two would be silenced for Obama.

Who the heck hikes alone in an area as isolated as Cape Breton? Even in Stanley Park in the middle of Vancouver coyotes have been caught on film attempting to steal children away from families while they are picnicking! RIP on one hand but I shake my head and say, "City folk!" on the other.

Time to define the mission requirements. So far it's been an unclear objective, and the Taliban now roam the poppyfields in the shadow of Karzai's outhouse. How will NATO know when it's won? Nobody seems to know.

There is a Bush telegraph in operation in Somalia.

Correct. It's for stealing the natural resources. Likely some business takes place for both those stolen resources and the Chinese crewmembers. Remember, the pirates are kidnapping for ransom to make a living, and to protest the illegal overfishing and dumping of chemical and nuclear waste in their waters, according to the Times of London recently.

I can only assume heroin and cocaine are next.

Another confidently pontificated but fallacious argument touted.

    Typical Lib crazy laws though.

As I write this from a Coffee Shop in Maastricht today, I can see and smell weed being smoked in a modern, liberal democracy that works. It has zero tolerance for hard drugs, has a lower level of violence on all stratas of society, genuine gender equality and a high level of education, resulting from a lower level of dropouts.

Give me those crazy Lib laws anyday, instead of the Moral Majority, which, as we have clearly seen, is neither. Although I'm not Dutch, I always like to visit, and I think the Yew Ess of Aay could certainly learn from this little country.

    Well SuperLib, you're batting 0 for 3:

Well that's kind of an ironic way to support a regime who denies the holocaust, says there are no gays in Iran, and operates a clandestine nuclear program.

But you're no fool....brush up on your Farsi and see what was really said and done about those. Dare ya!

    Loganinnippon hit it perfectly:

OIL PIPELINE===> Iraq ===> Iran ===> Afghanistan read between the lines (in the sand)

Eastern Mediterranean port of destination for that pipeline, anyone? Haifa! The steel reinforced concrete pipeline was finished as far back as 1943! Pieces fitting together yet? Are we joining the dots on the map yet? It's true what they say, I guess. "War is how you teach Americans geography". (RFK? Not 100% sure.)

This is an interesting twist. For the better part of the last decade FOX was the Gospel According to The G O P, and now, suddenly they're not credible. Yet, and I find this most amusing, FOX reported this gem on December 26 2001, and nobody from the White House on down took any notice. And it really could have saved everyone a whole lotta grief! Maybe everyone was hung over from too much brandy sauce the day before? Especially POTUS?

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,41576,00.html So whaddiyaknow! They knew OBL was dead before they got everyone into this mess! Just imagine had they caught this snippet, how different things would be? How many more people would be alive and well Stateside, not to mention in Iraq? Gotta hand it to FOX, on this occasion they got it right but nobody noticed!
