Only thing about this, ironically, is that an Irish "Yes" vote Friday now paves the way for, get this, Tony Blair to be crowned President of Europe. The Irish just voted to be led by Phony Tony! Sad!

And in the most ironic twist (God really has a sense of homour) today's London Telegraph is announcing that the Iranian President is......Jewish in origin! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/iran/6256173/Mahmoud-Ahmadinejad-revealed-to-have-Jewish-past.html

The UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has thanked Iran for providing the agency with information about the construction of its new pilot enrichment plant.

"With reference to the letter of 21 September 2009... from HE Ambassador Soltanieh to the Director General of the Agency Dr ElBaradei, I wish to thank the Islamic Republic of Iran for providing the Agency with information about Iran's activities related to the construction of a new pilot enrichment plant," read a letter by the IAEA to Iran, a copy of which was obtained by media outlets.

Iran, on September 21, informed the agency that it was constructing an enrichment plant in Fordu, south of the capital Tehran. The plant will be, according to senior lawmaker Hassan Ghafouri-Fard, used as a backup facility to Iran's first enrichment facility in Natanz.

Iran, a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), says its program is solely aimed at the civilian applications of the technology.

Iran says UN nuclear watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei has arrived in Tehran on an official invitation from the head of Iran's nuclear agency.

On Saturday afternoon, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief arrived in Tehran on a two-day visit to meet with the head of Iran's nuclear organization, Ali-Akbar Salehi.

"ElBaradei's visit to Tehran has been scheduled one week ahead of talks between Iran and the six major world powers (P5+1) and has nothing to do with the Geneva meeting," the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said in a statement Saturday. The Fordu site is the country's second nuclear plant, after the Natanz facility in central Iran, which, in 18 months time, will enrich uranium to the 5 percent level suitable for power plant fuel.

    Secret? Doesn't look like it.

Well, if Ishihara is accusing people of under-the-table backhanded deals he should show proof. Or be quiet.

I'd like to know how many of the nabbed were public officials and police officers. Great news to have with the Olympics. "Oh hi honey how was your day at the Olympics? Great mom, but I got groped by that cop on the way home again!"

Hatoyama needs to practice this statement over and over on the flight:

"Eu gostaria de congratular o Rio de Janeiro na sua seleção para manter os jogos Olímpicos 2016. Você merece-o, e o Tóquio não faz. Bem feito!"

Then we'll see what a good sport Japan can be, instead of those spoiled athletes who sob and cry all over the sportsgrounds when they lose.

Isn't this rich! Yesterday in this forum the IOC was accused of being racist. Methinks it's the RNC that are the obvious bigots. Jimmy Carter was 100% right; some folks just can't deal with the fact that an African American is now The President of the United States.

Let's apply the same justice as everyone here was hollerin' for Polanski yesterday to Bush, Cheney, Ashcroft, Rice, Rumsfeld etc. etc. etc. Their crimes against humanity certainly deserve it. And let's not stop there. There's Lebanon and Gaza to add to that list.

Presumably the defence has had this information shared with it by the prosecutors, as required by law? Either somebody is lying, they found nothing or the process is flawed and invalid. Which is it? And one would have to be forgiven for Booga Booga as it's the mainstay of US news these days, you know, to hide all the other problems and failures to assume personal and collective responsibility. Sit back, take a long look at the anesthetizing media diet of the average semi-literate Joe sixpack. As bad as McFood. But of course, it's other people far away in other countries "who hate us because we are free" that are to blame. These are the people who are trying to blow us up in New York again.

Wow, the way President Ahmadinejad reacts to differing opinions, for example during and after the last election, should give anyone pause about him having any access to nuclear weapons.

Firstly, the reports on the most recent election results were 100% lopsided. The incumbent guy won fair and square. Media manipulation sought to distort that, even after significant recounts. The violence was not of his making, and he was not holding the reins while it happened. That was the Supreme Council of the Mullahs, or whatever its official title is.

I don't care for President Ahmadinejad one way or the other. He's an academic, a member of a minority sect of Islam, and some would say a bit otherwordly. But he's not suicidal, nor is Iran. It tends to be an isolationist country anyway, and has its own rich heritage of culture. Mostly, they just want to be left alone.

But, when you have external forces actively seeking regime change, by force if necessary, then you have to give them credit for learning from Iraq's mistakes, the same way that India, Pakistan and the DPRK have. Only those countries not strong enough to push back at the bully (Israel and the USA) get invaded.

As long as the IAEA says they're compliant, leave them A L O N E! They can verbally bluster about holocausts and anti-zionism all they want. There is not a shred of evidence to suggest Iran is going to attack anyone, anytime soon, especially with 3% enriched Uranium.

They are not the nuclear armed hotheads of the region. Israel is. Iran has a right to defend against that very real threat. And even if they're stupid enough to waste resources on a bomb, it would be suicidal to use it. The converse is also true. If Israel bombs the Iranian facilities, you can bet your bottom dollar that both China and Russia (heavily invested in both operating plants at Natanz and Bushere (sp?)) will respond in kind. It's these kinds of laws of unintended consequences that pose a real threat of a global nuclear war. President Ahmadinejad is not the threat here. Bibi, Barak and Obama are.

The pre-emptive strike doctrine so favoured by the Bush & Obama administrations works both ways. Just imagine if Iran adopted it too. They'd be more than justified!

Iran having the bomb is not the same as Iran using the bomb. It would be called a balance of power in the region. That would be a good thing.

Have a look at Israel's non NNPT compliant nuke plant here, from Israeli TV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbjgDERSuiI That should scare you, given their propensity to attack their neighbors on a whim.

The tests came two days after Western intelligence officials and diplomats disclosed that Iran had been secretly developing a previously unknown underground uranium enrichment facility. ....and which Iran had declared to the IAEA.

It is subject to the terms of the NNPT, and both inspection and control by the IAEA. Unlike Dimona.

“I think they were hoping that people would just jump to conclusions,” Folsom said in an interview with The Associated Press. “No traces of any kind of chemical was found in his vehicle,” Folsom said of an FBI search of Zazi’s car. A federal prosecutor argued that Zazi was planning an attack to coincide with the 9/11 anniversary.

Booga booga if ever there was.
