So much for this, then: "Aspiring sincerely to an international peace based on justice and order, the Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as means of settling international disputes. 2) In order to accomplish the aim of the preceding paragraph, land, sea, and air forces, as well as other war potential, will never be maintained. The right of belligerency of the state will not be recognized."

Obama deserves Cheney's silence, as a matter of courtesy. But that's not the Dickster's strong point, now, is it?

Finally, sanity has prevailed. This article is very much related to the longevity item posted on this page. Quantity of life is not the same as quality of life. If we shoot horses to put them out of their misery, why would we deny a human the right to die with dignity at a time of his/her choosing, in care, surrounded by loved ones. Instead of alone in a sterile home or worse, strung up in Aoki-ga-hara? For a really good debate on this I recommend: Kung, Hans & Jens, Walter; "Dying With Dignity, A Plea for Personal Responsibility", New York, Continuum Publishing, 1998.

and again... "The corporate media and the authorities are having a field day lavishing saturation coverage on the so-called New York “terror plot” in which four men, three of them U.S. citizens, supposedly planned to blow up a Jewish temple and shoot down military planes, feverishly citing it as another example of why we should accept police state measures in major cities and the targeting of American citizens as “domestic terrorists”. The only problem with this premise, mirroring just about every other major terror plot and terror bust that we have ever studied, is that the men were radicalized and provocateured by an FBI informant, who provided the group with the fake weapons that led to their arrest." I rest my case, your honor! But then, media literacy on this forum is, well........

If YOU had Israel whuppin´the US´s rear end towards an attack on you, YOU´d invest in some serious firepower too. Look at North Korea, Kim´s got nukes and they just leave him alone. Saddam didn´t and look what happened! See any clear lessons to be had here? I sure do.

Radical structural overhaul, the kind that has helped other economies weather this storm a lot better than Japan, is essential.

"Israel is already killing people wholesale with illegal weapons." "you want it the other way around, don't you?" Your words, not mine. As proof that Bibi wears the pants in this marriage, check out this hubris: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1086579.html "Israel gives Obama until end of year on Iran." What more proof do you need? Check the transcripts of this meeting: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1086387.html The burden of proof that Iran is making nuclear weapons lies with the accuser, Israel. Show me evidence, not WMD hype, OK? Fool me once....

So much one-sided Amerika-centric logic here. Israel is already killing people wholesale with illegal weapons. FACT. Israel has been doing this for years. FACT. America supplies much of that weaponry. FACT. Regarding this Netanyahu-Obama meeting in DC, let´s be very clear about the dynamics here. Obama is taking marching orders from Bibi. FACT. It´s not the other way around. Here´s my prediction of the outcome: The Palestinian Authority (the Fatah 45%) will be told they have to reign in the majority Hamas 55%, and then told that the recognition of Israel´s right to exist will be a prerequisite for any agreement. No mention will be made of the Palestinian´s right to exist. Then Iran will be demonized as a nuclear threat, despite the IAEA´s insistence that no weapons program or super-enriched weapons grade material is being produced. Hands will be shaken, photos taken, and Bibi will go back with a blank check to continue doing what he does best. And what that is, is well documented. FACT.

"The removal of the need to obtain a re-entry permit for residents who leave the country for less than a year." The re-entry permit is a tax on nationality, a race-tax. Abolish it. I can't help but think this whole renewal process is a farce. It's like telling a kid that s/he can have paper but not crayons, or the other way round, and is still expected to produce something perfect. Japan, which desperately needs tax-paying people to support its future needs a radical overhaul, not new gaijin cards and the like. (1) A rapidly aging population with few children is a cash drain. (2) A rapidly becoming uncompetitive industry base is a cash loser. (3) A country fast losing international influence is a face-loser. (4) A rapidly unraveling society is losing its sense of law and order, and rather than face up to the fact that it's a self-made situation, it blames foreigners. That's a fascist state in the making. (5) Combined, all of these spell disaster for Japan, because they think that by applying the same old old remedies to new problems things will work out better. That's called insanity.

Time to overhaul and honestly face up to what kind of country Japan has become, where it wants to go, and what (if anything) it wants to be in the future. Japan needs to realize: "Open to immigration or die! That's the choice. Period." I'm not altogether too hopeful given the current leadership's ideas on immigration reform. Rotate leaders in Tokyo and you still get the same old tired shima-guni ideas. Pathetic!

As for white phosphorous; what kind of sick, perverted individual or country drops this on anyone? Let alone on little children? They don't hate America and Israel because they are free. They hate them because they fry innocents with weapons of mass destruction, like this.

This idea has produced the ultimate example of the law of unintended consequences. JT reported about five months ago that instead of making an injustice system a little more humane, the presence of ba-ba's and ji-ji's on the bench has hardened hearts. Some prospective servers on these lay juries (they're really lay judges) reported they'd flog people for double parking, letting dogs poop in public without cleaning it up, and for unseemly dress. They'd hang people wholesale, and they'd pretty much outlaw foreigners. Way to go Min of Justice, you've just unleashed Pandora's Box! Call it Nihon-Taliban rule!

Swine flu is not swine flu everywhere, I've just discovered. Unwilling to be like everyone else in the world, Israel has decided it does not like the name of the recent flu outbreak used by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the rest of the normal world. So Israel has decided to re-name the "Swine Flu" to the "Mexican Flu" yes, you read that right. Only ONE place in the whole wide world where the virus is NOT called "Swine Flu" is Israel. Story: Israeli Health Minister Yakov Litzman has been updating a nervous public on the swine flu epidemic - and he started by renaming it for religious reasons. "We will call it Mexican flu. We won't call it swine flu," said Mr Litzman, who belongs to the ultra-religious United Torah Judaism party. Link here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8021301.stm You heard it here first people: WE have swine flu, but Israel has Mexican flu. Howzabouthat!

“We have now a common enemy, and we’ve devised a common strategy to deal with the enemy. ... We will not surrender, we will not capitulate, and we will not abdicate.” Wow, I couldn't agree more! I just watched the Taliban in Pakistan shoot a man and a woman down like dogs saying it was "Allah's will" because they were adulterers, despite their pleas of innocence. They then proceeded to riddle the man's body with AK-47 fire as it lay on the ground. Now, I'm a bit of a Jeffersonian, as I think that religion and government should be separate, whatever the stripe of either. This horrific video brought home to me the absolute insanity of radical religion, in this case Islam on speed. I must agree with the Pakistani officials. Indeed, don't panic. Just do whatever it takes to drive these lunatics back over the border and let the forces of reason deal with them as they may, even, to the point of their misguided fighting to their own deaths. I've said it before and I'll say it again: "The greatest evil in this world is fundamentalism." That's my official fatwa!

In a country with fewer and fewer children being born, and daily news of more and more children abused, sometimes killed, maybe we can conclude that Japan's adults don't deserve the gift of a child. Maybe nature is reducing the species on this archipelago for a reason.
