I don't pretend to understand the workings of Americans' minds. But, this issue seems to be one of the most divisive I've ever witnessed. To an outsider it would seem that America, not content with being at war worldwide, is now at war with itself. And we all know the fate of a house divided...

USARonin, I can see that you're playing multiple parts here, all defending the indefensible. You just don't get it, do you.

Israel concentrates on building a society, not destroying their neighbors. They are a successful, properous society with a quality of life most folks on the planet envy.

If Israel disappeared tomorrow, and poof a Palestinian state appeared in its place, one or more Arab states would invade it within the week.

Both of those statements are patently untrue. Building a society does not means treating half of its members like dirt. israeli women would disagree with the quality of life part as they are the most beaten of all women (by their partners) in the region. It is israel which has attacked Lebanon in 2006, and Gaza several times since. Who exactly would invade Palestine? And why? What utter rot!

An elaboration.... Days after our tough talking Vice President Joe Biden returned from his trip to Israel with a handful of broken glass, the Obama administration announced that it has blocked delivery of armaments slated for delivery to the state of Israel. This announcement brought cheers and jeers from opposite ends of the political spectrum while leaving those in the middle, well…perplexed. The diplomatic theatre going on between Israel and the Obama administration has everybody fooled. But this entire political circus is purely for public consumption. The short-term goal is to create the illusion that there is a riff between the two nations, while the larger scheme is intended to give Israel complete inculpability when the U.S. finally decides to strike Iran. The move yesterday by the Obama administration to divert delivery of 387 bunker-busters from the state of Israel to the island of Diego Garcia is just another slight-of-hand maneuver in the shell game that is being played out in the days leading up to the inevitable attack on the Islamic state. Quoting from a Thursday article in the World Tribune “In January 2010, the administration agreed to an Israeli request to double the amount of U.S. military stockpiles to $800 million. Officials said the bunker-busters as well as Patriot missile interceptors were included in the agreement.” Now, are we expected to believe that it was Israel’s announcement to construct new illegal settlements in disputed East Jerusalem that has compelled the administration to go back on its promise? Give me a break! Is Israel’s expansionist campaign something new? They’ve never stopped building. They’ve never stopped destroying. They’ve never stopped killing. They have been engaged in an ongoing military adventure that has violated the human rights and cost thousands of Palestinian lives for as long as this writer has been alive.

The whole staged crisis between the U.S. and Israel is to secure delivery of those weapons to a more strategic location. That’s always been the plan. If not, why would they even put those munitions into transit at all? It’s obvious that a direct delivery of those weapons to Diego Garcia would be just too obvious. But by creating the illusion that those weapons were intended on being delivered to Israel, the contrived “last-minute decision” to divert them to housing on Diego Garcia appears to be merely an innocuous logistics decision. But it’s anything but innocuous. When you realize the strategic significance of this move it makes the reality of the world crisis we are now facing even that more ominous. Diego Garcia is a U.S. air and naval stronghold in the Indian Ocean. It is a giant, sprawling military complex that was solely responsible for launching air strikes against Iraq during Operation Desert Storm. More recently, coalition aircraft at Diego Garcia dropped more ordnance on Taliban and Al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan than any other unit during the war on terror. This is not a place where bombs go to sit in storage. This is a place they go before they’re launched.

Delivering the bunker-busters to Israel would have been a major strategic blunder. It would have made Israel appear even that more threatening and lend credibility to both nations’ critics who have been saying all along that there is no clear distinction between Israel and the United States. It would have created a larger crisis throughout the world and lend justification for Iran and its allies to fortify their borders against a well-armed Israel. The United States and Israel are very conscious of this; and that is why they unilaterally played this out the way they did. This strategy to make Israel look like an estranged child from its parent gives them complete deniability once the bombs start dropping. They believe that this staged feud between Israel and the U.S. will put the kibosh on any allegations that the two are working in concert. But behind the scenes, they hope to provoke Iran into a retaliatory strike on Israel in order to lend justification for their involvement and compel the American people to come to their defense.

But still, many are buying into this illusion that was created to keep one guessing about the true nature of relations between Israel and the Obama administration. The whole scenario is being played on the American people like a Hollywood script. Boy, that was cathartic!

Actually, Obama most certainly DID promise to end the war and bring the troops home. Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp9YJjZFGQw

Well, Your Excellency Mr. President, I have no doubts but that the Iranian people share your hopes for better relations and cultural exchanges. A fundamental "sharing" you need to understand is that Iran needs electricity and medical grade enriched nuclear material for its hospitals. Both of these are being pursued through the NNPT & the IAEA with Iran's full cooperation. Why don't you understand that? And....seeing as we're talking about mutual understanding, howsabout talking to your good friend Bibi and asking him to follow Iran's example, and put israel's nukes under NNPT and IAEA inspections too? Wouldn't that be a big step towards peace and understanding in the region?

Awaiting your considered reply, Mr. President.....

    Mr. President?

Mr. President? Oh, looks like the message was intercepted by the war machine and reprinted with "wiping people off the map" rhetoric, "Great White Satan" epithets and the likes.

Imposed celibacy is one of those laws, enforced with the burning of priests' wives lest they lay claim to church property for their inheritance. As with most things papal, done purely for greed and avarice. Same today.

Clinton told reporters that Iran, while entitled to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, must reassure the world that it is not trying to build a nuclear weapon.

Why? Because Bibi Netanyahu says so? Obviously Lavrov doesn't buy that BS. Iran has a legal right, which it is pursuing through the NNPT and under IAEA inspections, to nuclear power for peaceful purposes. The USA has the duty, under section 4 of the NNPT to assist Iran, which it did when the Shah was in power. Let's remember three very pertinent fact in all of this: (1) The only country to ever use nuclear weapons on a civilian population is the USA. (2) The only Middle East entity with nuclear weapons not under the NNPT or IAEA inspection is israel, and they have threatened to use them, even against European capitals of nations with which it disagrees. (3) Iran hasn't attacked anyone nor threatened anyone for almost 300 years, unlike israel and the USA. (And please don't try to sandbag me with the "wipe israel off the map" deliberate misquote.) Even if Iran had plans for a nuclear weapon, who cares? Having one, and using one are very different. And given the stellar example of how Iraq was 'liberated' for not having a nuclear weapon, Iran has been very astute indeed by learning from that lesson. So, for that matter, have been Pakistan, India and even the DPRK.

Why does anyone listen to him? Fear. Uncertainty. Doubt. Think anyone in the US feels those things?

Americans may not be listing to this nut, but they most definitely are feeling similar rage. Guns and ammo sales across the lower 48 rose in 2009 to their highest levels ever. US citizens now have more home-held weapons and ammo than the world's top 21 countries' armies! I'd put it down to a sense of fear that the US Govt. will try to do to them what it has done so well in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, "liberate" the people. (Source: ammoland.com) We may well see a people's jihad in the US, all-be-it by a different name.

"U.S., Israel to try and heal worst rift in years"

It appears that the US is doing all they trying to heal the rift here. If you worked the phrase "rat's ass" into a sentence, it would pretty much describe israel's effort in this "healing".

Seems it couldn't care less what the rest of the world thinks about it either, as nobody else is "rifting" much less healing, as they've written to pariah off a long time ago.

And for those who are wondering just how much israel leeches from the hard working American taxpayer, check these two pages out:

    http://www.aidtoisrael.org/

    http://www.ifamericansonlyknew.org/

School boards closing schools and laying off teachers, roads and infrastructure crumbling, foreclosures mounting daily, no health care for vets (or anyone else), but always a cool mil-a-day or more for israel. Where is the outrage, Amerika?

Regarding a plea for a JUST peace in the Middle East I got this retort:

Yeah right, What about the rest of the world, infect, every country has troubles with Islamic terrorism and it's evil supporters...

The "Guest" here needs to know what is now public about the real intent and behavior of israel. It went on mainstream TV in the UK on Monday, here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/dispatches/4od#3048585

and now the whole world knows in great detail the genocide that is ocurring on live satellite TV broadcasts. To lie otherwise is really to lie to yourself. The destruction of Jerusalem, in its own myopic way, is the destrustion of israel itsel, but so blind is their hate for goyim that they cannot stop themselves. I'm not inventing this, it's plain to anyone who can see, and finally, according to this article, it's beginning to make sense to the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. About frikken time.

To indicate, in the clearest possible terms, the extent to which the USA cannot stand up to israel anymore, (a key point in this article), on ANY issue not just settlements, I'd like to refer readers to "Foreign Policy", link at the bottom, and have them read the report of a presentation, mandated by Gen. Petreus, given to Gen. Mullen, and the reactions thereto, "stunning him." It should stun you too.

The final paragraph: "There are important and powerful lobbies in America: the NRA, the American Medical Association, the lawyers -- and the Israeli lobby. But no lobby is as important, or as powerful, as the U.S. military. While commentators and pundits might reflect that Joe Biden's trip to Israel has forever shifted America's relationship with its erstwhile ally in the region, the real break came in January, when David Petraeus sent a briefing team to the Pentagon with a stark warning: America's relationship with Israel is important, but not as important as the lives of America's soldiers. Maybe Israel gets the message now."

There are those who accuse me of anti_Semitism in this forum, but I'm not. Just anti-apartheid and anti-Zionism. I really want a JUST peace in the Middle East, as I believe do most good people. When the senior CENTCOM folks "get" a message like this, enough to brief the White House with the same message, and that others have been pointing out for years, I have a sense that I am on the right side of history.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s hard-line government said Monday it has banned Iran’s largest pro-reform political party in a new strike against an opposition movement that has largely been swept from the streets since last year’s post-election turmoil. How* dare* these Eye-ranians vote for someone we don't like?

Talk about disingenuous reporting. Try a real opposition rally in Tokyo, Ottawa, London or DC and watch the jack-booted heavies in black uniforms swarm all over you like a fat-kid on a Smartie. Amazing the slant that newsies put when our thug is not elected!

"But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu showed little sign of yielding, saying Jewish construction in east Jerusalem “in no way” hurts Palestinians."

This is Bibi's middle finger salute to Obama and the US Government. They'll continue to send the US$1m a day to their true friend israel, the only democracy in the Middle east. Remember he was apprenticed by his predecessor Arik. Let's not forget Bibi's mentor's take on their friend and ally, the USA:

"Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it."

    • (Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001, to Shimon Peres, as reported on Kol Yisrael radio.) So the US can jump up and down, flap around, scream, throw tantrums and roll all over the White House lawn. To israel, it matters not a whit what anyone thinks of them. They're gonna do what the heck they please and nobody is gonna stop them. So there! Any questions now where the seat of power is? It ain't DC, and that's for sure.

This is on the heels of these asinine comments in the Asahi Shinbun, http://www.asahi.com/english/TKY201002250455.html February 26th, by Hideo Kobayashi, a visiting professor at Yokohama National University's Center for Risk Management and Safety Sciences:

"Japanese people generally have high driving skills and similar physical features. But the United States, whose society was more or less built by immigrants, has people with various physical features and behavioral patterns. To get a driver’s license, you don’t need the sort of skills that are required in Japan."

Obviously, and far too often, these kinds of accidents prove that his theories are patently untrue.

With the West locked in conflicts across the Muslim world, why would anyone throw fuel on the fire?

Time for Muslims to roll with the punches like everyone else does in a multi-ethnic society. Or else go back to where they'd fit right in and everyone thinks like they do. In-migration means integration, not special preferences and treatment.
