Agree with My2sense - Taibei must be cracking down something fierce if it's enough to force these guys to follow the rules. Not that that's a bad thing, but it's a world away from the free-for-all it was when I lived there in the early '90s. The taxi drivers always knew where the best dogmeat restaurants were.

Much could be read into the Eastwood ad, but it was fundamentally about the resurgence of America through cooperation and hard work.
Bah humbug! - the Republican usual suspects snort. An ad made by a private corporation hawking American-made products starring a man not well-known in the least for his socialist tendencies must be some nefarious Obama plot.
A few quotes from a WaPo article:
Gee, I don't think even Bush fell that low amongst Democrats; but still, there is also this:
(Read it here:< http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/obama-the-most-polarizing-moderate-ever/2012/02/06/gIQAXsV0uQ_story.html?hpid=z3> )
When Republicans begin turning on Clint Eastwood and the American automobile industry, well - it's not so much that so many have taken leave of their senses, it's that they've strangled them, bludgeoned them bloody, trampled them to bits, lit those on fire, and dumped the remnants in the Fires of Mordor.
Common ground with these folks?! Hah!

Rowan, had you heard of GateKeeper previously? I hadn't. Years ago, a person dear to me offed himself, and to this day I feel guilt that I didn't do anything about it. I still no nothing of GateKeeper, but if this slogan is successful in publicizing an effective way for those seeking help for others to find it, it will be quite worth it - however juvenile some might find it.

Oh, well I simply must watch it, then. Anything capable of offending that "delicate flower" must be something, indeed.

In my hometown, the police use a sting operation to ticket drivers who fail to stop for pedestrians clearly intent on crossing at a crosswalk. They should do the same here.
I run everyday and so use crosswalks a lot; I'll allow cars already close to continue, but when I lock eyes with an approaching driver to signal my intent, he'd better stop or he'll find my face glaring at him from inches away, pressed up against his windshield. Haven't been hit yet, but what amazes me is how drivers seem to be annoyed. It's the FREAKIN' LAW, ladies and gentlemen - those zebra stripes are not there for simple decoration.

Still not convinced, sailwind. For example, check out any major news outlet Website now and there'll be some variation of "Overwhelming win for Romney" (Washington Post). They could well have spun it as "Romney scores over 3% lower than four years ago" - but they didn't.
Conflicting interests come into play in the news. I'd agree that the majority of content producers may lean liberal - they are the intellectual, creative types. But they also deal with the need to attract attention in an increasingly fragmented age in order to put bread on their tables. And the media itself is overwhelmingly owned by faceless megacorporations only interested in the bottom line.
Overall, I'd guess that it balances out well enough. Decrying the media will never score points, whether on the right or on the left. Let it go and focus on the content - which, in this particular case, was that a multimillionaire recently endorsed by Donald Trump won a primary in a state of whose inhabitants a large percentage share his religion. The only "spin" I've seen is calling it anything greater than that, as the Washington Post chose to do.

The Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism is probably just another liberal front, but here is an analysis of news reporting of various candidates c. late 2011.
The most surprising result is that Palin received a 31% positive rating against 22% negative. I chalk that down to a combination of Stockholm Syndrome and expectations lowered so drastically that she'd receive positive press as long as she didn't forget her own name.

Nope; that is because Democrats argue about issues. Republicans arguing about issues would be like Catholics arguing about dogma: their truth is written in stone. They instead try to out-Reagan each other - which is funny for people of a certain age (like me) who actually lived through the guy.

She's a real damsel(-fish! That was an ichthyology joke.)
Japanese profess to love the sea but, aside from those who make it their hobby, are quite clueless about it compared with my hometown, Los Angeles. Which at times is nice: it's almost hamaguri season, and I'll be the only one gathering them while snorkling: a few kilos every half hour, while the poor guys lining the shore will be lucky to get a handful after hours of digging.

Oh, poor sailwind - now perhaps you understand the frustration some of us felt at the endless descriptions of Obama as a "community organizer."
Go ahead - blame the media. Obama was a community organizer, in addition to a university professor, Harvard Law graduate and United States Senator. Romney does make obscene amounts of money from his investments and does pay obscenely low tax rates on them. Perhaps this might be of interest to Nevadans, who suffer under the highest unemployment rate and worst housing situation in the country. But go ahead, really: blame the media.

I would disagree there. The UN is essentially a group to defuse tensions and prevent war, not to impose democracy. Russia and China are once again on record voting against the populace and for dictatorship. This is neither surprising nor helpful, but the UN has served to spotlight once again where the interests of these two regimes lie.
Hypocrisy by those on the American right never fails to amaze: antipathy towards government in domestic situations is seamlessly replaced by unnerving belief in its ability to direct events when they occur abroad. Assad is isolated, his days numbered. His friends abroad have been overthrown or have deserted him. His twilight struggle to maintain his cruel regime will undoubtedly cause further casualties, but let's be clear - these will be far fewer than if the US succumbed to some ill-conceived attempt to intervene militarily.

Maria is right: forced "loyalty" is slavery, not loyalty at all. Also, Mark Twain said, "Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul" - it is the loyalty of a beaten dog to a cruel master.
It is often that bravery is displayed not in loyalty but in self-trust and its subsequent actions.

Unreconstructed is posting articles from the American Enterprise Institute - classic! This is the "think tank" Neocons and uber-rightwingers go to recover from public humiliation (Newt Gingrich, AEI senior fellow) or to be put out to pasture if beyond recovery (John Bolton, also an AEI senior fellow). The place is so stuffed Bush administration detritus (Lynn Cheney? Check. Paul Wolfowitz? Check. Richard Perle? Check.) that you could practically walk across it to reach the founding of the John Birch Society.
If this is what you offer in the area of "relevance" - well, they don't seem to be spawning much offspring. It's more of a Jurassic Park of right-wing crazies than anything capable or producing intellectual value. Thanks for the chuckle, though.

Yes, the Nobel Prize-winner Paul Krugman, who warned early and stridently that Obama's prescriptions for America's economic ills were thin enough as they were, only to see the Republicans strip them down even further.
When one takes less than half of a course of medicine a doctor prescribes and fails to recover, one would do well not to blame the doctor.
