Lieutenant's past comments

I think some of you posters need to think about how much out of the way YOU go to help the down and out here in Japan. Sounds like a lot of finger pointing at Japanese society and quite hypocritical.

Rubbish. Just cos you do nothing doesn't mean others don't. On my way home a week or so ago I gave a guy some coin and ended up not having enough for the bus. So I walked. It was worth it.

As for as "the Japanese" not throwing change at the homeless, I and fellow non-Japanese walk by many of the homeless in Osaka everyday. Never have I seen any of my colleagues give any of the them any change or ask if they need help.

Why don't you break your almighty stride from the herd for one second, and help?

...there some folks arguing against and planning to vote against their own personal economic self-interest.

Insane isn't it. Not that it matters. The majority can see through the claptrap and are voting responsibly.

Kudos to Simon for his sensible posts also.

How do you even know she didn't help out?

Well alright, I'll give you that. But I'm pretty sure I'll see thousands of the heartless walking past other homeless today.

does anyone here gave any change or even said hello to a homeless

I have, on many an occasion. There's no need for you to think of me as great though. Just do it, coins or even a note. I'm not loaded by any stretch of the imagination but that much I can afford.

A woman gawks at a homeless man sleeping on the pavement. And not for one second does she even consider helping. Is there a word for compassion in the Japanese language? Do the Japanese even qualify as part of the human race?

McCain, meanwhile, spoke to a weekday crowd of 2,000 in St Louis, Missouri, where he and supporters branded Obama a liberal and criticized feminists and the media as they rallied their conservative base in hotly contested Missouri. Obama drew 100,000 in St. Louis on Saturday.

Yeah go Obama, you president. 50 times more popular than a fearmonger and warmonger and take-me-back-into-the-past-with-your-outdated-ideals old man.

I must be blind as I can't see that in the article.

It was in another article last week or something.

P.S. "... he was in solitary confinement", is more than 2 words :)

    Yes, I know :)

Down with Palin and the on-the-spot-nonsense she is forced to spew to pretend that she is suitable for the job, any job.

Palin is genuinely popular with average Americans

I don't think you can use the word average, since she doesn't have the kinds of numbers approaching anything like that. If anything, she is popular with an ever increasing minority, and soon their vote will be overwhelmed by that of the "average American", and rightly so. Down with Palin and the on-the-spot-nonsense she is forced to eschew to pretend that she is suitable for the job, any job.
