@kyushujoe. Perhaps he was hinting at gov't expenses, I think.

I can understand Japanese mind on this: they see Copa America as a joyful event, a time to learn thru sports. Joy? Something that citizens may be able to appreciate discreetly after the tsunami, but not something that an official representation of Japan could do within, say, six months. It is called respect.

Power to the Samurai Blue. It seems that Spagna has invited herself to Copa America, replacing Japan. A pity USA can't make it.

There's no such a thing. A friendship is more than a marriage, for one can end a marriage and still be friends. If a friendship has to consciously broken, then it never was a true friendship. Perhaps one knew each other, from workplace, from sitting side by side in school, for sharing the same gym, but this is not friendship. That's easy to end. Now, a friendship can come to an end naturally if one or both friends have to move to a distant place, for instance, but then it's not the "best approch", because it's neither best nor an approach. That's life.

Wrong time to launch Xoom. People are iLining in front of Apple stores to buy Ipad2. And the recent frank comment from Samsung's President Lee Don-Joo that Galaxy is "inadequate" in comparison to Ipad2 makes it hard to other tablets to compete with Apple. By the way, what an ugly name for a product, "xoom". No wonder Apple is in a win-win situation.

I avoided taking taxis, because they're expensive in Japan. But I never had any bad experience with them. Perhaps because I always told the driver that my final point would be a Jusco, or a gas station. I never asked them to stop in front of an apartment building, because it was clear he would spend at least more ten minutes looking for that specific spot. The rest of the address I would look for by myself. And I never met a rude taxi driver. May have met the mute ones, but never an angry one. Now, what really call a bad experience is riding in NY taxis. There were some I thought they would me a subject of next year's CSI.

I attended their last tour in Japan, you won't believe it. It's so funny, so good, so hilarious, you would pay ni-man-en smiling in front of the photo of Gene Simmons showing his tongue to you. Their cancellation is due to the never ending debacle inside the band. Or because they're 60-something ojichans and Stanley himself can barely do his tango-ballet number crowds love so much, whatever, but not because couldn't sell tickets. They might be an old act, but they still attract crowds.
(A joke only a hard-fan KISS will understand. Do you guys remember that band "Gene Loves Jezebell"? I once saw a T-shirt with a KISS logo written "Gene Loves Paul, and Hates Peter, Ace, Eric, Vinnie..." LOLOL. )

It's a nightmare that lasts 3 long months. I suffered so much that I would wake up at least 3 times a night, breatheless. And during the day, my eyes were so sore you would think I had washed them with vodka, I looked like a telescope-kingyo. My solution was to leave Japan...never understood how such a rich nation can't do anything to stop this horrible monster in the backyard.

I agree these fares are reasonably good, given the comfort inside the A380 and also the fact that it's a brand-new machine. It will be interesting to watch (and to travel) when Skymark launches their own A380s from 2014 on, as they are promising their fares will be at least 30% cheaper than the ones practiced now by other J-airlines.

Just to shed some light on my above comment: my carry-on is exactly what you see everywhere, it fits the overhead locker of all different planes I have travelled on. My point is that JAL ground crew is way too rigid, to the point of making something small details a headache to their customers. Now, I avoid JAL as much as possible.
@ Jason: believe it or not, the problem I described above happened on the Nagoya-Tokyo leg of my trip to NY, when I had to fly JAL. From Tokyo to NY, it was AA, and they were nice, no problem with "5cm plus-minus" as I had with JAL.

I started hating JAL after my last Tokyo-NY trip. The Japanese ground created a havoc because my carry-on luggage wasn't according to IATA's norms. However, as I pointed out, there were at least a dozen Japanese passengers before me that had even larger carry-ons and they went OKed. And I had just arrived from NY with the same carry-on with no problem at all. In the end, they said my carry-on was OK, but only after a 10 minute bla-bla. I used to like flying with JAL, but they look like my former local city hall: a company managed by ojichans.

I see two kind of people in this discussion: the ones who have lived with the loyalty and incondintional friendship of a dog, and the ones who don't.
I am the owner of three French Bulldogs, and I know if they have to give up their lives to save mine, they will. And when I go away for a few hours, they miss me as if I had stayed out for days. And they wait for me for hours and days, patiently, by the gate to our garden until they hear the sound of the car's engine, or see me. So I know that this devotion Hackiko had for his owner is true. That's what matters to me, if you don't have a dog and you say that Hachiko was there only for food, then you know nothing about true friendship.

My favorite is GAP, their shirts are wonderful. Uniqlo is great too, a little bit sterile. My Japanese favorite one is Muji, despite everything being beige/gray (so you can mix with buidings, houses). H&M is another good one, but I wear S or SX, theirs look like I am wearing my father's clothes - way too big. You guys complaing about sizes, is it the stores or your pauch?

I feel sorry for Jobs, hopes he gets better. Thing is, Ipad is very functional. And Apple is the Mercedez Benz of tech world: it does everything other cars do, but they do with style and luxury. Can't imagine myself carrying a Xoom or a Galaxy...

Whether or not Mr. Galliano will succeed in his past-Dior career actually depends on what US Vogue editor, Ms. Anna Wintour, thinks. As futile as it may seem, her power as portraited in The Devil Wears Prada is real.

My 16-yo nephew was offered Samsung's Galaxy, which is good and has some features that work better than the Ipad's ones. But he wanted the Ipad, and was adamant about that. Next is the MacBook for X-mas, a promise. Apple became the object of desire of our generation, and next's too.
Better wake up from your beauty sleep. Iphone 5 is on its way.
