melonade-
nuisance is a bad translation. When you see stuff like that you have to think "language". We have disturbing the peace and misdemeanor which presumably means having a bad demeanor. Drug crimes and riotous violent behavior can fall into those two. foreign languae= Grain of salt.
nandakanda-
I wasn't specifically talking about crime, but awareness of your presence in the world and responsibility. You can re-read my last post.

quote: No one is talking about LOOKING; people are talking about the crime in question here, which is taking a PICTURE up a girl's skirt! Saying that this girl was asking for it because she had a short skirt and the answer is to ban such skirts or provocative clothing is ludicrous.
ya got me all wrong. I wasn't talking about crime and I didn't say anybody was "asking for it" in the sense that they DESERVE anything. I was saying "be aware". It is smart advice and necessary. In the old world we had tigers to keep us sane. We knew when we stepped out of the door we were in danger and we had to have keen senses and know what was smart. Now we have big society and laws controlling everything and everybody so it is easy to lose sight of the fact that our life and relationship to others is, at the end of the day, our responsibility. I fyou want to rely on laws and morals then you get lazy and open yourself for attack. I'm not advocating dress codes for women by any means, either. Go naked, I'd applaud. (Not cuz I'd get to see some boob, I'd applaud the courage).

synista-
are you talking about Japan?? It is the most sexually un-repressed society I personally know. Much more so than my home country or any other I have been to. Buddhist countries are generally more laid-back and less knee-jerk moralists. Where do you come from?

Nobody mentioned me by name, so maybe I shouldn't bother replying.
However I am neither a perv nor "blaming the victim". I am saying something similar to hawkeye, a) getting ppl to look at your legs/ panties or tease them for wanting to is a big part of girls choosing to wear short skirts/ provacative clothes in the first place, and b) most red-blooded men will want to look, despite the fact that they mean women no ill will toward them and don't want to cause them injury. a and b plus c) the expectation of upholding the social mores of not staring at womens panties and not making direct passes at strangers in public places puts a great deal of pressure on men.
Now why is this not blaming the victim? I don't like violence against women. I think when a weak person is targetted and abused it is awful. However what recourse does the weak person have? To wait until after something has happened and get revenge in court because they were "right"? It seems to me being conscious of your behavior and its riskiness is your own responsibility. A guy on a motorbike gets in an accident, even though it's not his fault, what do you say? sure it's terrible, but the decision to ride is his. Even if it's the other guys' fault, the biker chose to ride a 2-wheeled vehicle. and if you are on a bike, being extra extra careful is one way of avoiding injury. Same thing with women, clothes, and where they walk. You got one life, it's up to you.

quote Longer skirts will not stop idiots from taking panty shots.
Actually I am pretty sure they will.
I don't know what dontknockit and dentshop think, but I think they don't mean quote "SLUT SHOULDA WORN A LONGER SKIRT! HOW DARE SHE RUIN A MAN'S LIFE!!"
I think they mean don't walk around like you will never get hurt in life because you think you have a right to never get hurt. At least that's what I think. You walk down a dark alley and you look like eye-candy and you are in danger. Don't want to get hurt? don't put yourself in danger is one way to solve the problem. Women and especially young girls dress provacatively because they want attention. Generally the more provacative the more they want the attn. This is natural. But you have to be smart and realize you are going to get all kinds of attn from all kinds of ppl. If you dont' want someone staring at your parts, don't show 'em.
As for the comment above about what if someone took a picture of men or something. Well you can't really compare. Men and women are different, and generally but not always get aroused by different things. Men are generally more likely to be more stimulated visually than women. There are like how many magazines about naked men? compared to like how many magazines of naked women? No contest, especially onece you throw in that it's mostly gay men that buy the magazines of naked men.

(burakumin- that's from immigration, right? murasaki probably means indigenously/ traditionally. many civilations/ countries existed there over a long period of time very different ecological environment, high level of civilization= highly developed cuisines, and very different over distance. I would like to go on and comment on what I would like her to wear while preparing my highballs and cocktails, but I'm not interested in Koyuki. And I don't like whiskey, much either, which just leaves cocktails.

I agree with dbung.
It was a stupid interview question, not a stupid girl response. She answered honestly, and clearly takes what she does everyday seriously. She's young so she may not be an incredible actor, I don't know. But I've seen ploenty of models work there way into being good actors. All these ppl making fun of her for being pretty and going from modelling to acting and talking about the weather are sexist. Men saying she's pretty are just being honest.

It doesn't say what kind of adult business she worked in, so it is hard to comment.
She could be pouring alcohol at an izakaya, as someone said.
Just for reference, in RI, USA, it is legal for girls 16 and over to work in strip clubs. I forget if they aren' allowed to get naked, but it is famous and cops from all over the Northeast US have their conventions in RI. Good or bad, that's the world.

cliff- lots of good trained actors who've trained as hard as any in the west. but pop culture, esp tv, is of course run by big flashy easy-sell agencies/ programs. There are often good tv shows tho.

quote I can't believe some women(men) are so cheap and disgusting as to sleep together(still) with these abusers.
Well you've said it right there. The victim is as low or perhaps lower than the abuser. Just a bug. Which is funny, because that's usually how victims feel. It is a very big problem for the person and not at all easily overcome. Which is why they are "together (still) with these abusers." Luckily it seems you are much smarter and therefore better off than these lowlifes and you don't have to deal with their everyday problems. If you ever do run across someone else's problem you can always solve it with a well-deserved mushi-kera to restore your rightful pecking order.

This is going to open a can of worms, but
In answer to kira's question, is there more tolerance of violence against children here? I would rephrase it and answer yes. I believe there is a big difference between discipline which it sounds like what you saw in the restaurant, and real violence, ie bullying, like what is in this article. I think physical discipline here is not looked down on as much as in the US for example. However I don't know anyone (Japanese, I live here) who would say that the kind of thing that happened in this article is forgiveable, anyone I know would say it is disgusting. In fact when I first came here, 15 yrs ago now, ppl here were still shocked about stories of violent crime from the US-- what a dangerous country, they would say. Sadly times have changed and there is more ugly violence here now. Still, not comparable to discipline, whether you agree or not.
I would not make surprised faces or shocked faces , or make comments, or have an attitude that you know better how children should be raised. For one thing, you could offend them and if they are the wrong person they may choose to attack you. In that case you have put yourself and your child at risk. For another thing, in this countyr, some use physical punishment here and some do not, it has been that way for 100s of years, and they haven't had any problems as a viable country. So I don't think "they" need any "education" from you (dolphingirl or woman I forget which.)

This is something to remember those living in Japan.
110- is the gnrl emergency number. Set up by the Police, but any emergency, crime, ambulance, fire.
119- is the Fire emergency number. They will dispatch or forward your call as necessary for ambulance or crime.
Why two numbers? I don't know the history, but in such crowded metro areas as Jpn maybe just the regularity of emergencies necessitated two for faster reaction. Get confused which to call in an emergency as this lady did and it's ok, they will contact the necessary place to deal w/ your emergency.
2 more numbers for you.
104- information. (as in, In Tokyo, meguro ku, what's the number for the xyz Italian restaurant?)
118- Sea emergency #. (Coast Guard? I don't know).

kabuki is very stylized and probably strange to someone only used to Western theater/ movies, but it is a very difficult craft to learn and the top actors in the field have a sublime presence even in their everyday casual attire equal to or greater than Western actors I've seen sitting about chatting. That said I've only ever seen it on TV. Maybe you just don't like it, but I can't see anything about it that is misogynist or cheap caricature. There are tons of female fans of Kabuki which means it says something to them.

syd,
I think the main reason is that she has these eggs in her belly that are driving her wild-eyed to get fertilized, she is either honest about that or the drive is just too strong for any lies anyone told her/ she told herslef about "society" to hold it back, and so she uncontrollably grinds her pelvis with a suitable mate. Generally "strong" is what women like, so older stable types or wealthy types (which are gnrly older) seem like the best bet. There could be something tragic in her past, or maybe just an undependable floppy father. Wait- didn't she grow up w/o a father? I forgot. Or just her drive is that big a steamroller.

Takeshi's an interesting guy. He is supposedly one of the most controversial comedians on TV, though I rarely see him open his mouth to speak. Apparently a lot of what he does say gets cut.
The TV shows he hosts incorporate enough fluff and prattle to be entertainment but are often fairly interesting and informative in a real way, much more so than other non-news/NHK documentary programs.

Saw a tv program on him last night. I was very charmed. I'm not really interested in famous types, and especially men, on TV, but there was something about this guy that was very likeable... fun. He's very fresh and honest. Not putting on a face and not tired or cynical. At the same time his eyes are sharp and you can tell he has done a lot of serious hard work to accomplish things (traditional craft, kabuki). WHat I don't get is that girl. I see her on the news and she just seems like an idiot. Much more so than the other 20-yro poster-face women announcers. She must have something to get Ebizo.
