"more than five times the British drunk driving limit."

Oh gee. That's like 10 pints of beer - normal consumption for many at the local pub on many an evening. Alcohol binging in the UK is a by-product of many years of draconian licensing laws.

Human beings in general like getting smashed on drink and drugs for whatever reason they have. Why bother denying it?

Heh willi, your desperation is evident. Obviously you've been ignoring Tunisia's peaceful transition to democracy with hands on both ears, blinkers in place contrary to your doomsday predictions. Egypt will be the next blow for your Islamphobic obsession, and whilst I have no doubts that Libyan's face a struggle ahead, I'm sure they will be the final blow to your anti-Islamic agenda.

Why are they using St Pauls as their protest ground anyway? Surely the beef with capitalism could be taken to the capitalists themselves rather than the church?

The UK is sinking under it's ridiculous PC dementia further each month. Just look at all that recent stupidity moving along those travellers that were dwelling illegaly.

"Forced to close for the first time since WW2, when an army of foreign totalitarian socialists tried to destroy it."

The Nazi's were far from socialists, oldest Friend. In fact, it's as intellectually challenged an accusation as calling NK a people's republic. And you've been told this quite a few time over the years and years you've posted here! Ah well, horse to water and all...

Good for Tunisia, those that touched off the Arab Spring. A fine example for the others.

Heh, it's nice to be on the side of hope for a brave people that just fought bitterly for their freedom, than the side of those that are desperate for Libya to turn into some sort of Talibanesque Afghanistan to prove how much they hate Islam.

I see Tunisia is no longer part of the conspiracy willi... I can't understand why.

Heh, there was two options on the saddam ticket. Saddam, or cut of my arms and legs in front of my family.

If you can't tell the difference between that election and the apprently free elections in Tunisia, you could be up for the coveted Darwin award.

But it is charming to see people feel threatened by what looks to be progress after the Arab Spring.

    Speaking of optimism:

"The mother of Mohamed Bouazizi, the young man whose self-immolation last December triggered the Tunisian revolt, told the Reuters news agency the election was a victory for dignity and freedom.

"Now I am happy that my son's death has given the chance to get beyond fear and injustice," Manoubia Bouazizi said. "I'm an optimist, I wish success for my country." "

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-15425407

Looks more like a 90% turnout Zichi.

I'm not sure how this fits into the breathless Sharia Winter thing, but I'm sure it can be explained...

Heh, Mission Accomplished for the headline, JT. It's a shame we can't have a thumbs up or down for the articles.

That said, it has given much needed short-term relief to the conspiracies by our resident islamaphobe. Feeling threatened by yesterdays democratic elections in Tunisia with an apparent 90% turnout, I'm not surprised he's feeling threatened.

If the majority of Libyans think Islamic law should be part of their constitution then it is their right, even if us godless Westerners have long rejected the notion as idiotic.

It's amazing to watch one man's mission to rant about Islam, and listen to the rabid conspiracies that have no foot-hold in reality. Egypt and Tunisia have so far been a big blow for willi, as you can see, he's desperate for Libya to descend into chaos.

That's pretty mean spirited if you ask me.

Western politicians may have an eye on the booty, but there has been a massive effort behind the scenes on their part to prepare the NTC for a post-Gadaffi Libya.

I have no idea why people are giving you thumbs-down for posting facts either. Like Triumvere said, the crazies on JT feel threatened by facts they can't refute.

"His speculation about the no-fly zone is just that... speculation."

Weill willi, coming from someone like yourself who just above is claiming Obama and Sarkozy caused this conflict (WTF?) I think you'd do well to think about what you write before looking so foolish.

If only you could see how desperate you sound for this conflict to end badly. Tunisia and Egypt didn't collapse into mayhem as you were hoping/predicting. No suicide bombings, no brutal sharia fantasies for you to sweat about.

    Here's a tissue.

" his very first words on this matter the reminder to his frantic base"

The only thing frantic is your diatribes about Obama.

He's extracting the US from this costly mistake.

"The smart set, then turning talk to economics, will go on insisting the war broke the US economy (but that the vastly more expensive WW2 "got us out of the Depression"...), and that we stole all of Iraq's oil."

Ever hear of the Lend Lease Act? Comparing WW2 to the invasion of Iraq is ridiculous. Give it up.

Rest assured that all the companies where Bush's daddy, and others associated to the regime, hold stock got what they wanted. Opening up Iraq's oil fields without Saddam controlling them and sanctions were simply a bonus. Both Iraq and the US got it's nether portal plundered by the neo-cons.

    Weedkilla,

It's fair to say that in Bahrain there have been protester deaths, but nothing on the scale of Gadaffi's quelling of the initial rebellion. Warehouses full of burnt bodies were found. And they I'm sure are the tip of the iceberg.

I may have mentioned airstrikes, but your comment where you stated that NATO "targetted civillians" civillians is so woefully incorrect it needed pointing out. NATO targetted military prey, if albiet unfortunate civillians were accidently killed.

It was a country-wide mutiny. The regular army capitulated immediately, leaving the wily Gadaffi with his non-Libyan well paid mercanary army that without NATO, would surely have brutaly quashed the rebellion in weeks. This is the whole point of UN intervention. And if I'm wrong, pray tell where these 1.5 million Gadaffi lovers from Tripoli are now?

It reminds me of the elections Saddam held before the invasion, where he was the only candidate, receiving 99% of the vote! I'm sure many turned out through fear of the dictator, and his reprisals, rather than support.

    "No war no casualties"?

Gadaffi wasn't playing by those rules. No intervention many casualties too.

Sure the West was acting for oil interests too. But the fact that the mission has been a success so far, and the fact it remains really a Libyan success, made it all the more worthwhile.

    Thanks for your comments.

I love Greece, spent time travelling there a while back. Great people, but striking isn't the way forward, sacrifices have to be made. Other European countries are starting to get pissed at bailing you out, and at our own banks for their reckless lending.

    Weedkilla,

"Maybe you're right. But do you have any links for this massacre other than from the usual MSM outlets?"

My ex-girlfriend's father is an Algerian diplomat. From what I understand the MSM haven't reported yet on the height of the actual attrocities committed by Gadaffi in the early days of the uprising. The bones already uncovered at Abu Salim prison from an earlier, failed uprising are chilling enough.

"And how do Nato airstrikes help when they're targeting civilians? I don't know the number of casualties but I've read it's in the 10s of thousands."

NATO airstrikes do not target civilians, that's simply un-true. Why bring this up? Civillian casualities are most unfortunate, but inevitable. How many civillian casualties would there have been had he been left to quell the country-wide mutiny with his greatly better armed and trained merc army?
