I meant the party in general. Pithy obstructionism and screaming personal attacks are not going to help America on the road to recovery. Some of the hardcore partisans on this thread were claiming Mr Obama the worst president ever before his actual inauguration. Do these people actually deserve a vote?

" It is the middle class that makes too little to afford quality medical, education, housing, etc., earn too much to qualify for assistance who're treading water just keep their heads above the surface in Obama's economy."
Would that be the people that have been living beyond their means for the last 30 odd years ?

" This is the first time such a thing has ever happened in the history of US politics."
If the trend continues surely the Republican party willl self destruct under ther wieght of it's own bitterness, selfishness, anger and negativity to bring about the return of real democracy - to the country that has been lumbererd with a stale two-party system for oh-so long. That would be an exciting thing to see, a kind of mini-revolution.
I keep telling myself this election can't be a forgone conclusion, but even the more moderate Romney seems woefully out of touch each time he opens up his mouth, even if some of the supporters would rather blame media bias over reality.

"I'll refer you to the Romney family dog."
Jesus I'd forgotten that classic. Wasn' that back in 04 that snippet was released? What sort of person straps the family dog to the roof of the family car when leaving for a vacation? Surely even most Obama haters love their pooch?

"Have they figured out what they would do if they lost the annual billions of dollars of U.S. aid?"
I seem to remember it was used against them recently. The worrying thing is the corrupt toads running Pakistan need aid to survive, but play appeasement to the fundies at home. A dangerous game. So they mutter about US airstrikes but in reality are glad someone is cleaning up the trash in their backyard.

Bush Jr was born without a brain, just a big Guy. Romney differs in that respect, but obviously both were born sucking golden spoon.
What is it about Romney's tax-paying that bothers you? The guy pays taxes - actually quite a big wedge of dough. He has acted like every other stinking rich dude on the developed planet - he's taken every option to pay less tax. Sure it's going to hurt him in his bout against Obama but all this does is demonstrate how much America is radically changing after The Great Recession. I have a small business and I act in the same manner as Romney just on a micro scale. I take well paid advice to pay less taxes. It just makes sense.
Rest assured Romney is going to raked over the coals for being uber-Rich over the next few months, and it is going to be strange, to say the least, to watch Americans do it.

Heh, nice photo of sarko. The media is really tunring against the prez which is kinda poetic justice as he was the first French leader to open up the media à l’Américaine.....
The Greece problem isn't going to be fixed because the Greeks refuse to tackle the problems of the black economy and political corruption and general laziness.
The recent German proposal for Greece to relinquish soverignty over the budget seemed reasonable, albiet battering egos in Athens.
This should be run as a business. When a business shelters under the courts as Greece are doing, the tribunal takes control of the finances, and if there's no light at the end of the tunnel, assets are seized and sold to pay the debts.
I know that sounds pretty radical, but Euro decision-makers need to get serious about Greece because Greece isn't serious. Either that, or boot them out of the Euro and brace the dam.

Heh, there's a thumbs down war going on.
Romney has more credibility than any of the other pretty scary individuals running for the nomination. It would not have been credible or even fair for any of those other nuts to go head to head with Mr Obama.
I imagine Team Obama are now concentrating 100% on Willard Romney and his past positions. The debates are going to be exciting to watch. Let's hope they can keep it adult.

Wanderlust,
Succinctly put. There must be a sizeable amount of oil in that last gasp of the old Empire if we're sending that ship out there. Let's hope it has enough fuel to return.

It's worse than that PT, he's promoting a hike in the sales tax (on top of the already staggering 19.6%) to pay for a reduction in social charges, which cripples the small businesses, that are the back-bone of France.
In other words, he's talking you know what. In fact, his nose gets longer (if that's technically possible) each and every speech. I'm always amazed at ho many novel ideas politicians vomit up 3 months from an election.
Heh, on the other hand you have Francois Hollande. He's going to drop the retiremnt age to forty, propose a 15 hour week and the possibility of sleeping with his ex wife.
They should bring back the guillotine.

I don't agree with you in the slightest. The moderates are the people that will decide the election and a lot of them are un-happy with Obama's performance, rightly or wrongly. We saw what impatient voters do out of desperation in 2010, something our deluded partisan cranks still think was because someone may have had a better idea, somewhere at one point in some other galaxy far, far away.
It is going to be tighter than you think, but I'm sure you're wrong and Romney will appeal to some moderates looking for an alternative to Obama. Even the after-birhter fundie crazies will have to either vote for Romney or not vote at all -but I'm guessing they would vote in denial for a tri-sexual divorcee of French descent who's wife had an abortion if it would mean a vote against Mr Obama.
Let's face it, they're that way.
Unless of course the GOP brain-fart goes do-lally and they select the screaming angry white man Gingrich that epitomizes so many of JT's rightwingnuts.
But I very much doubt they will.

King Baz,
I agree it's questionable. But it beats letting the bastards train and plot with impunity. GWB had to sing a planet size hammer after 9/11, the American people demanded it and even I supported that fiasco.
If the truth be known, this covert method should have been used in Afghanistan. Would have saved a train-load of dollars and thousands of NATO personel.

Did Ghadaffi spread sunshine?
If the arabs want to vote in a democratic arena and choose to live in the middle ages it's their right and their country.
However I support a mirror image for them if they decide to live in the West, i.e zero tolerance.
