I'm not a religious person, but clearly this tree was not designed in the spirit of Christmas.

Hope he feels better, stronger, faster. Getting old and sick sucks.

While I'm here since when is the imperative of a verb called the command form?

Since before I went to school. The world is considerably bigger than your little bubble of "knowledge" - just because you haven't heard of something doesn't mean it's wrong.

This is an interesting article - it kept my attention from start to finish - with interesting comments following it. A rarity on JT, and a pleasure to read. Thank you all.

The press are such dicks, the way they the Imperial Family - you'd think they'd learn. The Crown Prince may well have been askd by his father to take pix, or wanted to do it to please the old man. The Showa Emperor died around this time (January I think). The memory must be a cloud hanging over this emperor's head - I hope he's not superstitious. Anyway, I think they all seem pretty decent - they can't help the hand they were dealt in life. The incessant media attention and the archaic aproach of the Imperial Household Agency, can't help their quality of life at all. I wish them well.

conbinibento: I bet we will, just that they'll eventully change the name of the day, like they did with Midori no hi / Showa Day, in April.

Rude - to say that a begging party for his mate is more important than a state visit by royalty of one of the most peaceful, earth-friendly nations.

Certainly offer him the job back, as he was unfairly fired. Whether he accepts is up to him.

A lot of you are making unreasonable demands - if you want something decent and healthy then be prepared, get it the day before, make your own lunch box, whatever. I agree that the food available in convenience stores is not delicatessen-standard, organic, all-natural fare. It's a bloody convenience store, and as far as food is concerned, the conbini is the lover, not the spouse! It's for a late-night pop-in when the supermarket's shut, or when you need a quick bite to eat on the move. Anyway, you can get bananas, eggs, salad, rice balls. Just don't touch the sandwiches - they raise my blood sugar to ridiculous levels.

I think they're fantastic - unparallelled in term of what you can do there: buy basic grocery/drugstore/toiletry items, booze and cigarettes, newspapers and mags... You can pay your bills, use the cash machines, buy concert tickets, re-up your cell phone, send a parcel - all of this 24-hour. Amazing. And I think the service is great, they remember your face and preferences (no bag etc). Can't fault them.

It just seems so unlikely - what happened to the tried and trusted charcoal burner method? Carbon monoxide poisoning (isn't it?) MUST be a more, well, popular and immediate option than death by the kind of excruciating pain they must've felt. God, I hope the majority in the car were drugged to sleep.

So, what the author is saying is, sometimes people were nice, sometimes they weren't so nice, and sometimes they were nicer - and sometimes it was hard to tell because she isn't from there originally, it's easier to figure out what's what in your homeland, and it's easier to understand and trust your own people? Bless.

I wouldn't like to get that, nasty illness. Hope she feels better. Hope they pump up her immune system, not her resistance to antibiotics.
