Afternoon delight? Reminds me of a scene out of Arrested Development, where the phrase (as it has come to mean) was also misunderstood. I think it's great that people can crash out almost anywhere without fear of being robbed or attacked (I would still hold onto my bag handle though!)

@Elbuda Mexicano: The article doesn't specify their nationalities, they might not be Japanese.

Not that hard to figure out, is it? Tho' rather crude in its message: Our fish is pure.

Tearing off nails, that's basically torture. The punishment should fit the crime,

That's a shame about Kodansha - it's through them that I got my first J-E translations of fiction, and learnt to appreciate Japanese writers I'd otherwise never have heard of , let alone been able to read works by.

Poor man. I hope that the arrest leads to his having treatment, or anyway being looked after. Prison/fines won't help anyone.

That is NOT good news... Nor is it a surprise really. How many of those of us who were here (c.126 million, then) will continue to be affected by what happened, throughout our lives?

I am assuming that the question refers to random, unprovoked attacks, and not in response to trespass, or in defense. And I vote Yes. Even when a dog is on a leash, I've seen people - strangers, kids even - approach to pat it, and the owners have done nothing to stop them. People should not try to touch a dog they don't know, and owners shouldn't let strangers pat their dogs.

I wish him all the best. I hope his resignation is not because he has little time left; rather, that he wants to spend more time doing other things.

I thought this was quite interesting to read, although the English was a bit too overthought to be a smooth read. i don't think there's anything wrong with the author's attitude at all. He seems honest about his intentions and feelings - what's wrong with hoking up with someone attractive and like-minded re. what they want out of relationships?

Same age as I am. Man, but I can't imagine - how bad must things have been that he didn't want to keep on at life? That's so sad, for him to have done that, and for his family and friends.

And they absorb those pesky radioactive materials. I'm surprised the place isn't swarming with kids sent out there by their anxious parents.

So happy! I was told by a guy in the shop ages ago that even SkyPerfect would be unwatchable without a tuner on my analog TV. I foolishly chose to believe him, and for the last couple weeks have been hunting down tuners for the short-term (sold out / too expensive) and deliberating buying a tv (no point getting one till September, in my case). I was seriously expecting to suffer BBC World withdrawals. So imagine my dleight when I realised that the guy in the shop was wrong and that SkyP works just fine on my old but perfectly good analog tv. I wonder how many other Luddites like myself werew told they'd have to fork out uneccesarily?

Poor woman. Addiction grabs hold on a person, it won't let go without ripping parts of you off to take with it.

Can't get tuners anymore. When I asked in the shop, they said the manufacturers have stopped sending them out.

Talk to one sometime, it's easy. I've had many a good chat with them. Many of the cabbies I've had in the front of my cab are retirees, and cabbing is the only way they can continue working, be it full-time of part-time. A lot of them are not from the city, they've left their hometown (where they can't get a job) and family (who need money) to work in the city. Thank god they don't jostle for custom like in China - I'd hate that. The station system is fair, they wait in line, we wait in line, eventually everyone gets somewhere.

Timing... There's also the not insignificant matter of the 70th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack at the end of this year.
