After the Kobe quake, I took the opposite approach. I always try to get on the highest floor. It seemed the middle or especially the bottom floors were the ones that were most often collapsed.
Posted in: Nobody cares so much anymore about a good view. Instead, they’re asking what will happen when the next big quake hits.

Lighter, thinner, with slightly bigger screens, but still small enough to fit into your pocket. More memory, higher CPUs, so able to do more complex applications, or do the same applications better and faster. Voice recognition for most functions, audio translation of individual words and very simple sentences. Photo and video cameras with more megapixels. Longer lasting batteries.

Cell phones may cause cancer, but they also reduce the time it takes to get an ambulance in an emergency. I think they are a net positive to people's overall health.

This place looked like a war zone after the Kobe quake and fires. Audible gasps from people as they rode the JR line through the area where Iron Man now stands. Seeing the results of a decade and a half of rebuilding makes it easier to feel confident about the future of the areas destroyed in the March 2011 tsunami.

Kinda reminds me of the Bank of America logo. Personally, I would prefer that the U.S. Embassy used the image of a traditional U.S. flag. However, the idea that this represents a tectonic plate sliding under another, and is therefore offensive, is silly.

Polls like this are somewhat useless, because they do not list the costs of alternatives. A more useful poll would ask, "Would you support shutting down all nuclear reactors in Japan and using energy sources like oil, solar, thermal and wind power if it meant that the cost for electricity would double?"

For 2000 yen you can buy a USB plug charger and 12 AA batteries. With gas lines ruptured after an earthquake and scattered debris, open flames should be discouraged, not encouraged. Have we forgotten the fires after the Kobe earthquake? Imagine the hazard of every family buying one of these pots and lighting a fire for three hours to charge their phone after an earthquake.
