Ossan, perhaps the grappling hooks are their "tools for research". Ha ha ha. Listening to the pro-whaling crew is like listening to Bush's WMD in Iraq folk who probably continue to believe in the lies. Just ignorant fools!

Between the corporate scandals and the whole whaling-for-research BS, it's a good thing Japan has the occasional devastating earthquake. Otherwise, they world would never feel any love from the rest of the world.

Japan's special training: "Put your feet up on the desk like so. Then place your tea cup over here on the side like so. Then doze off just a little, but not too much. End result, the criminals will come right to you. Just make sure you arrest them, not like that idiot with the Aum cult perp. He made us all look like fools."

Tigermoth: Which one of Iran's leaders do you believe to be making 'valid' points?
The one that says the US is the Great Satan. Ha ha. First of all, it is not a matter of what we can hear via the media. All of the hyperbole coming out of the Iranian regime is pure bluster. What I mean by saying they make some valid points is simply mirroring what a lot of poster are saying: What is up with the hypocrisy of the US and the West? Why shouldn't other countries be able to develop whatever the hell they want. The US obviously does whatever it wants, just ask Iraq. You think Iran is going to invade other countries once they have the power? Just because the US acts in that manner doesn't mean Iran will. The US is already in the ME protecting Israel. Iran simply wants to have the means to protect itself from those two war hawks. I am not saying that I am all for the Ayatollahs (or for any religious nuts), but if I were to distance myself from all the propaganda, the US is by far the more meddlesome, bully. They keep pushing other countries around and what is worse, it is not even their neighbourhood that they're pushing people around in.

The US has certainly done a job propping up the Israeli regime. It seems that a lot of posters still believe the Jewish state is the picture of innocence. I suggest they look into its birth and history of aggression. Iran? Sure, they have talked a big game with their "Death to the Great Satan (America)" bit, but behind the rhetoric, they actually make some valid points about US imperialism and their support of the Jews in the middle east.
And Takahiro, you wrote: if you have your family travelling peacefully in a bus in israel and it gets blown up with iranian explosives, and the killers are glorified, you change your mind about labeling self-defense as genocide...
I believe this article is about an Iranian dude who was blown-up (most probably) by a Israeli explosives in Iran, by folks who are most assuredly being decorated for their work. Since I am using your own argument, I can only assume it has changed your mind? Right???

YuriOtani wrote: "If Iran cuts off all of the oil we are screwed! So in the short term how does Japan replace 10 percent of its oil needs? I would call for strict rationing and yes Americans that would affect you on the bases. If you think the economy is bad now, just wait. The worse and even worse is just around the corner."
I suppose by worse and even worse just around the corner you mean you will no longer be able to sit in your cars idling for hours on end while you catch up on your favourite tv shows? Me thinks Japan could save a good chunk of oil by turning their cars off.

Domingo: 'Canadian citizenship is not for sale,...'
that's the worst lie, pure hypocritical bullshyt ever. if you are rich, you get permanent residency without any trouble. poor poor people of this world.
And you get it, a paid apartment and oodles of job training if you come as one of the many poor refugees. Canadian citizenship and permanent residency is far easier to get than the same in just about any country. The problem is that because of our healthcare (not that great actually) and passports, people want to be "Canadian" when it suits them. Live in your home country until the going gets tough then move to your adopted country where you have not been living, but (with a few documents from scumbags like those mentioned in the article) it appears that you have, you are set. With a few tax creds you are even laughing. Muslims aren't the only ones abusing this priviledge. There are loads of Chinese in HK and the mainland doing the same. Koreans by the boatload. The list goes on and on. The fact that they caught these guys is great. If those that have been abusing the system really want to become Canadians, I suggest they reapply and best of luck.

The US and Japan should strike a deal that brings a few hundred hardened criminals from over-populated US jails to Japan. Mix the trash up a bit and see what kind of deterrent it can be. US crims would have to make a go of it in a totally different environment, while the J crims like the scum in this story might get a little karmic payback from big burly dudes named Bubba. In could make for some very interesting kokusairikai.

Hey Ben: "Let's see, summing up the brilliant comments from the above posters: a boy with murderous thoughts ought to be executed; the boy had previously abused or killed animals (no doubt cats, right silly girl?); and he was thought to be a "good boy" by parents and teachers because he was quiet and introverted.
The quick to judge know-it-alls on this thread are truly mind-boggling. Would that us mortals were blessed with a mere 10% of their wisdom.
Can't wait to see what other ridiculous stereotypes and moronic comments follow."
Do you STILL think this story isn't news? I would love to know what DOES please you. A quick check on previous posts shows not much. Are you at least happy the perp was caught? Or does that anger you as well?
