Then stop beating them to death in 15-on-1 "Sayonara Gifts" and maybe that softening will come to pass.

Caveman, I usually agree wholeheartedly with your posts, but today you seem to be a little ridiculous. You seem to want to ignore the fact that the guy was drunk. Boom, as soon as that happens the driver is in the wrong. The guys life could have been saved if the driver hadn't started up the ignition. Had he not done it, his life wouldn't have even been in danger. Don't try to blame some guy for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and don't think a 58-year-old can flip, twist and turn to avoid an on-coming drunk idiot. Now, I surmise from your handle that you are somehow connected with the legal system, but it is not a crime to be walking outside along a public thoroughfare. I've seen the sidewalk end in Japan a million times. To the point where I believe it is a danger to pedestrians. Where else are people supposed to walk? Bottom line it is the duty of the driver to avoid hitting pedestrians.

That is pretty funny that they don't mention the name of the prep school, which is information that actually could help a number of families.

Why would they need a watchdog media when they only really watch the news to view the cherry blossoms as they travel north? The level of apathy in this country is appalling, to the point of being infantile. So few get angry about the way things are done around Japan. I don't know whether I would say the media leads the way in this or is a direct product of it. Chicken, egg, egg, chicken.
Posted in: The Japanese mainstream media do not have a well-developed 'watchman' ethic, because it colludes closely with those whom it should be watching and holding accountable. As a result, it is in no hurry to enable bloggers -- who in the U.S. have both 'watchman' and 'watching the watchmen' ethics -- by providing free content.

Instant classic this one. I frackin love it when this kind of story makes the news. Cat fight. I would have been there in a heartbeat screaming "Jeri, Jeri, Jeri!" I love a good cat fight.

Doesn't seem to relate to luxury goods at all, unless getting out on your own and renting an apartment so you don't need to depend on mummy and dadda anymore is considered a luxury good. Though, that just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Anyhoo, down with luxury goods and the idiots who buy them. Spend your money on something worthwhile, like those 4000 yen grams of pot. Now that is using your noggin to spend money the proper way. And, in order to smoke that pot you are going to need to get your own apartment where you can spark up without your folks barging in on you. So, you best forget about the luxury brands and get a better job so you can pay for your apartment and your habit. Or you can just save up and travel to Canada or Amsterdam, and probably live for longer on much less.

I actually like the whole seasonal thing, for the most part. It adds a little more intrigue to the brand. I loved to see the pink bags of plum chips hit the shelves. Sure you get a hankering for certain items and the unavailability of that snack can piss you off, but... the seasonal thing makes it seem more like Christmas or your birthday or something. Awesome!

What a great scam this is for young ladies with a band of toughs to perpetrate. I mean, really. Think about it. Most people would be way too embarrassed to notify the cops if they were out looking to connect with some underage tail. I mean, sure, they say woman, but... I've read a few occasions of this sort of scam running amok, so it must happen much, much, MUCH more frequently than many might suspect. This time they may have tried to con the wrong guy.

Japanese homeless people are the best. They so far outclass bums from other nations I can't begin to even think of praise them enough. They rarely threaten, usually behave and actually seem to have a clue of how life should really be lived, even if they're haven't quite found the right balance. In many western nations they bums have really become aggressive. I've said no to people only to have them hiss a curse and threaten my life. But what can you do? You can't take down a homeless man, and besides it's never a fair fight. They have nothing to lose.

Lieutenant. That was a good one.
I must say at first I thought the Japanese were introducing a new dating system or something to further distinguish their cultural distinctiveness (sic infuriate foreigners). How novel, I thought. Sexy poster calendar really makes more sense though.
