all good points and if followed would make flying easier. however people are not the same and don't follow rules (or even common sense). So flying will always be a bit painful. The standing on travelators/escalators gets me. note that is not standing to one side but always have groups of cattle blocking up the whole ride. Question - this article weasn't written for a Japanese readership alone?

Tale of Genji my a***. Just because it was used to write (a frankly pretty ordinary) book a long time ago, doesn't make Japanese somehow elegant or clever. Lots of Japanese names for things are puerile and nonsensical, so kanji is not the reason.

He's a Persian, traditional enemy of the Arabs. Enemy of my enemy is my friend and some stupid religious link (althoough Sunnis hate Shias too) putting these together. As for taunting Israel, that has a long history of yielding results.
