Not ethninc cleansing. Religion is not ethnicity. Agree, Iraq was much better controlled under Saddam (similar to Syria today) and this stuff didn't happen. This and Afghanistan both triumphs for the US of A.

Most gokons I have been to are pretty pathetic. almost all interaction between the sexes is of the organised variety inasmuch as it consists of drinking games or the standard questions on hobbies, fave movies etc. spontaneous interaction pretty infrequent. Boys one end talking cars etc, girls other talking nails etc. But to say the J blokes aren't prepred to come on to J girls in day to day life is just plain wrong. Happens all the time because J blokes grow up thinking that J girls are there fo please/serve/listen etc...
J blokes can be way more forward than non-J blokes when dealing with the local talent.

Umeshu is delicious, although not sure about the lemon and ginger version. Some more pricey umeshu's are not so sweet and fabulous on the rocks or with a splash of soda.

Easy to transfer money thru machine. Except need to read Japanese. Branches very welcoming and treat you like a kid/dummy. But overstaffed and inefficient. Which is one reason Japanese banks have such poor profit margins. Japanese cash machines close and don't take foreign cards. Have to bak with Citi or HSBC. And generally they are still a bit wary of foreigners.

This party was good fun (if a little crowded) - all the stereotypes were there but only to be expected in Roppongi on Halloween. JT posters really should lighten up.

The bidding for all large sports events (Olympics, commonwealth games etc) is corrupt and farcical. Throw FIFA and Blatter into the mix and you have real comedy.

Mexico (or at least ordinary Mexicans) is/are a victim of US drug addiction. Legalise drugs and a huge part of this problem will go away.

Licence renewal lectures are ridiculous but kind of funny too. The one with the drunken sarariman who gets tanked and then decies to drive home, runsd someone over , ends up in clink and so his missus and kid lose everything etc is a study in J paranoia and the values that make this great country tick.

You are of course right Cleo. On all counts. i am seldom brusque with people but I do find my self using a pointed "Excuse me" when blocked by people standing two abreast..... and no, that wasn't a Hooters article pun.

Interesting. I didn't think it was that great, but it has some pretty uninspiring competition here in Japan.
