I don't think the state should be involved in forcing people to wear a seatbelt. However, I have no problem with requiring children to wear them. Its one thing to choose to do stupid things as an adult, its quite another to be so irresponsible, as to allow a child to be in a car without wearing a seatbelt.
To me, this is negligence. The girl died because her father didn't ensure she was buckled up. If this had happened in the states, he would likely be prosecuted.

The so called EEZ is just that. So called. A self declared area that Australia claims exclusive rights to. Rights that have no basis in International Law.
No measure of intelligence has been or can really be made about how intelligent a whale is. Despite what you may have heard, as far as anyone knows, whales are just dumb animals. Far as I'm concerned, they're just cows of the sea. Have to protect the herds so they don't become extinct, but otherwise, hunting them is fair game.

Very hard to fight prejudice, when you hear about bombs going off murdering women and children. Most recently the Muslim cowards in India. The more we hear about this, the more inclined we are towards prejudice. Its completely normal and natural. As an earlier poster said, the Muslims in America, and elsewhere, need to do more, much more to fight back. Not talking about how we shouldn't be prejudiced, but rather going and joining the military, begging to be involved in helping fight against terrorists. Doing everything they can, and making it clear that they are Muslim as well, fighting for their country, against those who hate America.
As far as I'm concerned, a Muslim who fails to serve, is essentially condoning the actions of other Muslims. Or at the very least, not condemning them.

ALHQQ - Thats exactly what I thought as well. What the hell, why didn't the father help out then if he knew his wife was stressed out? Marriage is 2 people, not 1, a father and a mother, and if one isn't involved with the kids, they're failing as a parent.

Porn is Not against the law in the US. Obscenity is. Some people try to define that as being porn, but it never stands unless illegal acts are being committed.

Whale meat has no higher levels of toxins then a normal fish does.
Personally, I'm all in favor of whaling, as long as the species isn't endangered. They're nothing more then cows of the sea, and believe me, I have no problem eating beef! I've had whale before too. It was good, though not great. Would have been better had it been prepared differently though.

Are you kidding? Diplomatic lies are all that allows them to continue whaling. These lies are in fact the basis of diplomacy. Diplomatic lies are used to prevent confrontation when that confrontation wouldn't serve anyone. This is another example of that. Yes its dishonest, but it allows Japan to continue whaling, and allows other countries to ignore this fact, despite their public opposition.

Yeah, this is a simple dispute to resolve. Russia returns the islands, signs the accord. No more problems! Of course the Russians won't do that. I mean, from their perspective, they stole the islands, fair and square! They even went to the trouble to kick out all the residents too. So from their perspective, its all them.

Naw, this just proves that you can be indicted for anything in Texas, irrespective of evidence or guilt. Actually convicting you though, well thats a bit harder. Seriously, anyone who actually buys into this crap, is quite frankly an idiot.

Because I'm originally from Arizona, and she is the governor there. Having her take the Homeland security post means, no more Janet for Arizona! On the other hand, I've never been a fan of McCain either. If he had been elected, I would have been happy he was no longer an Arizona Senator, as it is, I'm happy to get rid of Napolitano. Looking at it now, for me anyway, I just don't see a downside to this election. At least not for Arizona.

Hehe, I was strongly opposed to Obama, but looking at this pick, I have to admit to being suddenly happy at Obama's win. I'm originally from Arizona, and seeing Napolitano go as governor, I'm just not seeing a downside. Though considering her position on illegal immigration, putting her in charge of Homeland Security is kind of like putting a fox in charge of the chicken coop.

lol, this is such a joke. Going by the logic here, you and everyone else here should be indicted for child prostitution. I mean, we all use the internet right, and theres child porn on the internet, so we all must be guilty!
Maybe its just me, or is there kind of a disturbing trend emerging here? In 2000, people were going after Clinton, now 2008, people are going after Bush and Cheney. Guess, in 2012 we can look forward to Obama and Biden being indicted on some ludicrous charge as well.

Not against international law, Disillusioned. It may be a loophole that allows Japanese whaling, but it is legal. To be honest, I don't know why people get so bent out of shape over this. Particularly when there are other countries out there actively engaging in commercial whaling, and 'slaughtering' even more whales then Japan does. I mean, its not like the species of whales being hunted are endangered.

This is a really good Op-Ed by Mitt Romney discussing the situation.

Anti Iraq War; Bush Lied!
Right Winger; Umm, what was a lie exactly?
Anti Iraq War; He said we were going into Iraq because of WMDs, but there weren't any WMDs, and the real reason was for Oil, and to fix his daddies mistake!
Right Winger; Ah, and the fact that the CIA told everyone that there were in fact WMDs there had nothing to do with it right?
Anti Iraq War; Just admit it, you think Iraq was behind September 11th.
Right Winger; Umm, what? No, no I don't!
Anti Iraq War; Yes you do!
Right Winger; Ok, I'll admit I believe that Sadaam helped Al Qaida, but then so did a bunch of people in Saudi Arabia, and of course Afghanistan, but Iraq as a country wasn't behind it.
Anti Iraq War; See, you admit it! Besides, Bush knew about 911 in advance and did nothing!
Right Winger; You're a lunatic, you know that right?
Anti Iraq War; You just don't want to admit the truth!
Right Winger; Next thing you know you'll be ranting about UFOs and coverups too. Or maybe you want to vent about Halliburton and no bid contract.
Anti Iraq War; Shut up!
As an aside, this conversation, greatly resembles one that actually took place between one of my co-workers and myself. Admittedly he really does believe in UFOs, coverups, and conspiracy theories. He's also a left wing lunatic, so take that how you will.

Couple things. First that number is inflated. The lost jobs in all likelihood won't be that many. Though the ripple effect through related businesses, and businesses supported by now unemployed UAW will suffer as well.
I don't think the entire nation would suffer from the Big 3 collapsing. To put it simply, people still need cars. The demand is still there. They will keep producing. They will have to sit down with the unions though and renegotiate a reasonable contract. If the unions refuse to negotiate, or refuse to compromise enough, they will have to break the unions. Either that or shutter the plants in forced union states, and open or expand plants in right to work states.
This said though, theres not a chance in hell of that happening. This is a democratic congress, with an incoming Democrat president. With the unions in trouble, the big 3 could ask for 100 billion, and congress would willingly hand it over.

The whole Elian thing was a travesty. The child should have been allowed to stay with his relatives in Florida, not be forcibly repatriated just because the father, who his wife left, came to the US. And the way in which it was done, was simply inexcusable.
Personally, I'd rather he had gone for Napalitano. Mostly of course because I'm from Az, and getting rid of Napalitano would be a definite benefit to the state.

I'm in favor of whaling. Yep, in favor of killing the cows of the sea! Oh, not all of them. I wouldn't want anything hunted to extinction. But managed fishing, yep, that I am in favor of. Don't see anything wrong with it at all. So long as there are sufficient numbers of the animals, why not allow limited hunting?
