The more I think about this, the more I think, that even if these companies get a bailout, the only way to save them, is to ditch the unions. The only way to do this, is force the unions to renegotiate their contracts. Dump the collective bargaining agreements, the mandatory raises, the inability to fire non productive employees. When you have a forklift operator making 6 figures, theres something out of whack.

Guys, you don't understand the actual situation here. This is not about propping up the Big 3 automakers, this is about saving the unions. Don't kid yourself, when they talk about costly labor agreements, and inefficient production, thats precisely what they're discussing. If the Big 3 could pay standard industry wages, they would easily be profitable.
The only real way to save these companies long-term, is to dump the unions. Thats something the democrats will never allow. Its either that, or they need to outsource a heck of a lot more production jobs to other countries, or states that are right to work states rather then union organized.

It lost though.
That said, I would love to see the guys who solicit prostitutes pay for it for a change. Its always the girls who are arrested, never the guys.

Glad the girl is safe. Hope they get her the help she needs in school, and don't just punish her for embarrassing them.

And once we finally get rid of Obama, it will take another decade to then fix Bush and Obamas blunders. Wonder if he is really planning to close gitmo, or if he is going to just close the prison there.

Really? I thought Bush left it to the UN, ya know the wonderful, lovable UN thats a model of decency, harmony, and incorruptibility. You're saying that the US needs to do more in Afghanistan? Are you saying the US is the worlds policeman? That the UN can't handle the job without more US troops to do the bleeding and the dying?
Maybe we should insist that other countries actually pony up the troops needed, rather then relying our blood and treasure to do the job.

I think there is a serious difference here. You want to equate violence with disagreement, and I'm thats not what this is. The majority of people don't support violence against anyone. Regardless of their religion, race etc. There is a difference between violence against homosexuals, and thinking that gay marriage is not a good thing. I'm sorry if you can't see that.
Whats interesting is that people on the left preach about how religious people are trying to force their morality on others. But isn't that what you're trying to do here? Force your morality, your notions of whats right and wrong on me? You are the ones who think gay marriage should be allowed. You are the one trying to change the opinion of society. Quite frankly, you are the one trying to shove your morality onto me. You need to recognize this fact, and understand that people aren't going to necessarily agree with you. Particularly when stuff like this happens...

Theres always genocide in Africa. Sad as it is to say it, the best thing that could happen to the continent, would be to reimpose colonialism. At least before the Europeans left, there were decent hospitals and roads. A halfway decent system of laws and justice, and the standard of living throughout Africa was rising. Now, most of these countries can barely feed themselves, and theres a civil war, and new dictators every few years all over the continent.

I think it really depends on how you approach the topics, and who you discuss them with. I love talking about Politics with one of my co-workers. We have completely opposing views, but while we oppose each others politics, we're friends and its more fun then it is conflict.
Regarding this topic though, people are all too tolerant of Islam, and their beliefs. Whereas people who follow Islam, are completely intolerant of those who don't.

No, calling a press conference, and denouncing the people attacking her would have been sufficient.
I've never liked the guy, but if he had done this, if he had come out strong against these people, I could have at least respected him a little more then I do.

Are you serious? Pretty much every post in this thread is all about hating those who think marriage should be between a man and a woman. Every poster who uses the term "homophobe" is spewing hate. Call it what you will, myself I call it hypocrisy.
People on the left are always saying we need to be tolerant of others. Of their lifestyles, their beliefs etc. This is true of course unless they disagree with you. Then they are as derogatory as possible in condemning them for their heretical, nonsensical beliefs.
And occasionally disagreeing can get you fired. http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/1387273.html#comments
The debate on this is turning to McCarthyism.

What I find amusing about this, is that people on the left are always talking about how we need to be tolerant of others. How others should be allowed to be different. How we should embrace the differences... This is all well and good unless you disagree with them. Then its nothing but hate!
Love the hypocrisy.

Wouldn't it be great if a bunch of these Hamas idiots moved to another country and tried what they're doing there. Yeah, I'm sure everyone would be supportive if you were getting rockets fired at you. Please, tell us again how Israel is to blame for trying to survive amidst hostiles on every side.

How long did it take him to come out and defend Palin? You call this the actions of a gentleman? I certainly don't.
Is this supposed to be a good thing?
And most of the people I've talked to about Palin, thought very well of her. I know that a lot of people that weren't planning to vote for McCain, ended up voting for Palin. And thats what you need in a VP candidate. Someone who can bring in the voters.

daydream - I think this speaks more about what you then Cheney. Speaking for myself. I would be happy, indeed proud to have him at my local Veterans day parade. Indeed I think I could speak for most veterans when I say I think feel about the same way I do.

Forgive the long post.
Of course this also speaks volumes for your own side which has long compared Bush and Cheney to Hitler right. Going along with what you're saying, this reflects more on you and your side, then those saying such things about Bush.
Having said the above. (Why do I always have to defend Bush?) I don't think Iraq was the best move. However warranted it was at the time, the subsequent mistakes there and elsewhere suggests that Bush and his team failed as leaders and planners. (Hey, I'm a conservative, I keep an open mind.)
This said, theres something to the position that says that by fighting in Iraq, we concentrated those that hate us, those that were easily suaded to go there, to oppose us. By doing so, we prevented further attacks in the US. More objectively of course, the people working behind the scenes can always recruit more idiots for Allah to go and kill themselves. But then, by focusing them there in Iraq, the US has been extremely successful in identifying those who are doing a lot of the recruiting.
Do I think the Democrats position is right? Absolutely not. Its important to stabilize Iraq, to stay there as long as they need and want us to stay. Its also important to stabilize Afghanistan. The US started this, it has an obligation to finish it properly. Pulling out is simply not the way to go, and would embolden those who hate America and democracy. They would attack here that much sooner by an immediate pullout, which is what Democrats have long been advocating.
Regarding the destabilization of Pakistan. I would argue that its not the US presence there that destabilizes the region, but that of Al Qaida. Effectively hunting down those groups. Forcing the region back into Pakistani control is something that the new Administration is going to have to achieve.
And how did we get on this topic anyway? Wasn't this supposed to have been about some nutcase in congress, who thinks Obama is going to be the next Hitler?

Dude - I get what you're saying. I do. I even agree to a certain extent. Though your constant harping on the legal/illegal argument is silly. However its not about whether or not someone served. Its the respect granted to those who volunteer to put their lives on the line defending the country. Bush made a point of visiting those he put in harms way. He made a point of seeing the consequences of his choices. He went to Iraq multiple times to see things, to talk to the troops. Visited the hospitals, talked to the wounded, and when he could attended funerals. When he couldn't he always sent a representative. To me, thats respect. Contrast this with Obama, who until recently had gone once as part of a group of other Senators. Sure, he was running for President, but the man seems to have avoided veterans. In addition, his votes in the Senate have been very questionable. Voting to cut funding to the troops for example.
I want to give him the benefit of the doubt here. I want to believe the man will be a decent CinC. Not because I like him, or agree with him. I don't, we're too far apart ideologically. But simply because I hope that people serving their country have a good Commander, leading them. Clinton wasn't a very good one in my opinion. Bush was better, even if following him got a lot of very good people killed. Given a choice, I'd rather have a good CinC, then another Clinton. Because I think it would be better for the country, as well as the troops that serve it.
