It's a nice design.
(That map in the background looks like it's from The Village where No. 6 was taken.)

Sadly, that's his factory that's seen in the foreground of the infamous video of the tsunami hitting Rikuzentakata. The four-sided blue sign with white "Suisen" characters that was atop one of the buildings can be seen on the right side of the video.
Also, check out Suisen's homepage; there's a sad message there.

I have a 15-year-old boxed bottle of Suisen in my closet. I kept putting off opening it. I was just going to dump it out... but not anymore.
Anyone know how long sake lasts unopened?

Anybody know if there are lists of evacuees on-line anywhere? I'm trying to find out if some of my friends in Rikuzentakata and Ofunato are OK.
In the area there are reporters getting live TV feeds out and obviously AP photojournalists transmitting their photos, so I don't see why this isn't possible.

In the '90s, I lived and taught in Ofunato, the city next to Rikuzentakata. In Rikuzentakata, I remember: Mr. Tanaka's drivers' ed. school, doing the annual bike race along the streets, Johnny's Jazz Bar, Akari-chan's (one of my 4-year-old students) mother's gasoline stand...
A few of our students came from Rikuzentakata. In the years after teaching, I have always thought about what became of the students. Did they go to university? Did they stay in the city? Did they get married? Did they have families of their own?
Now it pains me to have to wonder whether or not they have passed away.

No need to go in there; all he had to do was watch Malcolm McLaren's 1984 "Madame Butterfly" music-video.

Canadian officials are asking the athletes to bring some snow with them when they come. Hope he can bring some too---the snow-snakes are the worst at this time of year when there isn't much snow and the temperatures are above zero.
