Those support levels are a joke, low for both parties. If they had a box "none of the above" I bet it would have got More than 50% support

I haven't seen a minute of diving covered by Japan broadcasting. Did they show it on any channel?

You told me I didn't read/understand the article. The purpose of my comment is to establish some credibility for my comments. Better than being an armchair expert on everything.

Cletus I couldn't agree more on the poor winner comments. As proud as I am of the Kiwi athletes, I still don't like the NZ public & media's almost childish glee at leading Aussie (especially as it will probably be short lived)

I'm a trademarks attorney working in a patent office so it's in my interest to follow these cases globally. But I'm not venturing an opinion on this case because I am not an expert in this particular technology/litigation. But I forgot that Basroil is not only a nuclear physicist, but apparently also an IP whizz. Who woulda thought!

Let's look at the underperformance of the Aussie swim team - this is NOT because of under funding, as other posters have mentioned their program is world-class. But the Aussie swimmers themselves... Think of all the negative publicity they have got for themselves over recent months/years for things like drinking, social networking, stupid comments to media. Many in Australia treat these guys and girls like celebrities and that's what they now think they are - entitled to attention and can still be world winners without the same focus or working as hard as many of their competitors abroad. Sorry, doesn't work like that, swimming is hard work.

It's still unreal these phone scams are continuing. Why can't people help themselves? My mother in law was recently targeted - someone called claiming to be husband's big brother, told her he had caught a cold and that he dropped his phone in the toilet... This was the new number. She bought that one, then a few days later same "brother" called asking for money. She was in half a mind to send it too, luckily my husband was visiting and could see a scam straight away.

These articles always generate such heated opinions, and judging from this JT has a lot of American (and/or anti-Japan) posters who still feel a strong need to blame/justify/excuse whatever happened.
As a much more enlightened society, none of us personally responsible for ANY of the decisions or atrocities committed in this war, can we look back at the event and agree that nuclear weapons are not for the good of humankind, and should never ever be used again? That's all the survivors want to see.

I don't know about appreciation but at the vet least NO discrimination would be nice.!people always want someone to blame/vent at and the ordinary workers are sadly a convenient conduit. Hope TEPCO is rewarding their skilled workers adequately to keep them doing a good job...

Where is this Olympic "rule" that you quote? Remember IOC has referred all these things to the individual sports bodies and it was the badminton charter (not Olympic charter) that was the basis for their elimination. Where do you draw the line? Do the weaker members of say, the GB triathlon, get disqualified for putting their own chances of winning secondary to helping their top athlete get the best positioning in the race? Because that is what their plan was. Does a team get eliminated for resting their top players in a game where "must win" is not imperative, because they are not doing their utmost to win? Should Usain Bolt be eliminated for only qualifying 5th or whatever in the 100m prelims because that wasn't his "best" effort to "win" against the other athletes?

Another great night of gymnastics! Zou was superb and it was refreshing to see Uchinura relaxed and satisfied with himself, for once. The guys on pommel showed us how it SHOULD be done, brilliant. The only disappointment was women's vault, would have been nice to see some flawless performances but it was still exciting!

You know.... I have just converted my licence here and started driving, and realized how much much harder it is here to drive safely compared to back home. Yes half the problem is narrow roads and then all the taxis/other vehicles which illegally stop along the sides of the roads. But it is also the pedestrians - they walk everywhere (even on the roads in my area), and cyclists on the footpaths, who do just willy nilly cross the road, cross quickly out of nowhere on the flashing green man etc. i have to be so many times more alert than back home and I can see how a momentary lapse in concentration could end in disaster. Don't get me wrong - I'm not excusing the drivers for accidents BUT I am saying it takes a lot more skill and care to drive safely here compared to some other countries.

To clarify my earlier comment (6 thumbs down hey) I think all medal tally/'medal counts are stupid and meaningless. So I'm mocking both ways of counting/ranking the medals. Many athletes train overseas so how does their medal represent their home nation's sporting prowess?? Shouldn't the overseas coach/equipment/medical professionals/high calibre contribute just as much if not more than their early roots? Also many athletes have changed nationality just to get into the Olympics - how does their achievement reflect on their Represented country's greatness at sports? Confusing.

^ someone needs to brush up their understanding of patent law and intellectual property. There are very good reasons these laws exist and they are international.
