Because it's easy to check the teachings of the four main modern schools of Islamic jurisprudence.
It's the same ideology, and that ideology could eventually be put into practise if it goes unchallenged. Can't happen in the USA? An arrogant delusion. Plus the fact that as Islam is seen to grow stronger in the USA (triumphalist megamosques certainly help), Islamic law takes a tighter grip elsewhere (eg Nigeria.) But the politically correct don't seem to give a hoot for the fate of mere Africans.

Oh come on, those are links to a loony cult and a deranged woman. Mainstream Islam preaches death to homosexuals.
This is a reasonable point. I just want people to realise exactly what is preached is mosques, and therefore what will be preached at Ground Zero.
To the Moderators: I did just as MistWizard asked. Surely it was pertinent to the topic? Or was the truth too unpleasant?

No Christians, or any members of any other major religion, selectively their holy texts to say that homosexuals or apostates should be killed. However 3 of the 4 main modern day Islamic jurisrudences say that homosexuals should be killed, and all 4 state that apostates should be killed.
The fact that homosexuals and apostates are persecuted, imprisoned, murdered and executed in Islamic countries seems to be happily tolerated and/or ignored by PC drones on the basis that 1) some Muslims don't agree with it and 2) It doesn't happen to them (yet).

Why aren't you sure? Those ideals are enshrined in Islamic law and easy to verify.
Ok, some Christians think homosexuality is 'Godless'. There it stops. In Islamic countries, homosexuals are imprisoned or executed. Notice the difference?
It's reasonable to assume that mainstays of the Islamic faith will be preached at a major mosque such as this. Death for homosexuals is routinely preached at London's biggest mosque, the prestigious Regents Park Mosque. Why do you think the Ground Zero Mosque will be any different?

Well I'll be... MistWizard at last understands one of the central tenets of Islam! Namely, do what we want or we will fight you.
As for the mosque: yes the law is on Islam's side. Yes, it's in incredible bad taste to build it there. Yes, it being a mosque, Islamic ideals such as death for homosexuals and apostates will be preached there. But hate speech enjoys the full protection of the constitution when it's Islam doing the talking. People who oppose aforementioned hate speech are slandered and maligned.

@yabits
You say it's 'tolerable' to assert that homosexuals should be killed. So what happens when an Imam makes that assertion and a devout Muslim takes heed and goes and kills a homosexual? Ever heard of incitement?

There you go again. I find "right wing" more offensive than "nut-cases"
Prominent Muslim Tarek Fatah states that the mosque is a 'provocation'.
http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Mischief+Manhattan/3370303/story.html
Is he a right wing nut-case? Wikipedia describes him as a 'leftist radical'. One thing's for sure: he knows a hell of lot more about Islam than you do.
Just for good measure, the head of Al-Arabiya TV, a leading Saudi Arabian TV station, states:
"I cannot imagine that Muslims want a mosque on this particular site, because it will be turned into an arena for promoters of hatred, and a symbol of those who committed the crime."
http://www.asharq-e.com/news.asp?section=2(ampersand)id=21980
Oh no! Another right-wing nut-case!! They seem to be everywhere don't they, yabits?

Do you think it's correct to tolerate somebody's assertion that homosexuals should be killed? Why should the intolerable be tolerated? Such tolerance ensures that homosexuals will be killed.
And your belief tbat people who dislike Islam assumse all Muslims are the same is just leftish hate-speech. I'm sure many Muslims think Islam is a croc. However, they are all bound by Islam, since dissention brings retribution in the Islamic world.
These free-thinking Muslims are saying EXCACTLY THE SAME THING as non-Muslims who oppose the mosque. Are these Muslims bigotted right-wing Islamophobes?

Landing gear from one of the aircraft smashed into the building. Therefore the building is part of Ground Zero.

Let's not be suckered by this 'building bridges' line. A huge mosque at Ground Zero is a clear signal to the Islamic world that Americans are submitting to Islam, which, as infidels, they are required to do by the Koran.

That's because they're humans, who I believe are not born evil. Muslims are not a problem, but Islamic ideology most certainly is. Just read what it teaches.

I would think that in previous 'successful' missions, Israeli personnel checking the ships for munitions were not brutally attacked.
The joke is people like you who can't digest facts. Lightly armed personnel boarding a blockade-running ship in order to search for munitions were brutally attacked. Had they not been attacked (as was the case in the other 5 ships) nothing would have gone wrong. But then, there wouldn't have been 10 'martyrs' to whip up an ignorant and hateful frenzy around the world.
The output of the Palestinian and Arab mainstream media clearly shows that that culture is dripping with hatred of Jews (not just Israel.) It's the most overtly racist and genocidal culture on earth, and it's disgusting that people who have the gall to call themselves 'humanitarians' give it their unconditional support.
As I said, I'm no fan of Israel, but I'm not going to support genocidal racists is order to raise my right-on PC rating amongst the clueless.

Never been much a fan of Israel, and I think they were extremely foolish to be so easily set up on this occasion. But I think those posters who are rabidly anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian on every occassion regardless of obvious facts should browse the Media East Media Research Institute website www.memri.org. There you can see the mainstream Palestinian and Arab media teaching kids how to become martyrs, labelling Jews 'bacteria, apes and pigs' etc. You can also hear how the 'peace activists' were chanting "Oh Jews, the army of Muhammad will return" as the ships set sail. Watching this sort of footage should help in keeping some sense of perspective.

People are perfectly entitled to come up with theories as to why he did it. And from what we know it's extremely likely that he did it for a reason relating to perceived attacks on Islam or insults against the Islamic 'prophet'.
Count me in that group too. I was on the "No War in Iraq" march in London, just before the illegal invasion. The biggest demo in British history. However, the fact the Bush and Blair started an illegal war, and that the USA and UK continue pointlessly to try to crush the Taliban, doesn't alter the fact that Islam clearly preaches that infidels should be killed. Wishful thinkers may say that 'those texts only apply in times of war'. That may be true. But consider that many radical Muslims interpret the Koran in such a way that Islam will always be at war with the non-Muslim world "Dar al-Harb - the house of war" until the whole world is Muslim. And since the west is obviously killing Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan (justification is totally irrelevant), there is NO DOUBT IN THEIR MINDS that they are now in a war situation. And the war is Islam v attackers/insulters of Islam, and none of the 'enemy' can ever be considered 'innocent'. Shahzad, who was trained in a Taliban stronghold, is just another foot-soldier of Islam. Just like the Fort Hood attacker, who even had "SoA" (Soldier of Allah) written on his meishi, and yelled "Allahu Akbar" as he shot his victims.

Why am I not surprised that this man is extremely likely to be of Islamic origin, given the facts we know about this case?
No, not all of 'them' are the same. 4% of Pakistanis are not Muslims. They're the ones who are subjugated or persecuted by the Islamic state, to the supreme indifference of 'liberals' (it's time a new term was coined for 'liberals', because these days they're anything but.)

All very profound, and, I might say, obvious.
But stating the obvious about thousands of years of religious strife doesn't help in dealing with the problem of the one religion which refuses to accept the modern world, or modify in any way either the wording or interpretation of the belligerent and misogynistic teachings of its paeodophile (by modern standards) warlord founder.

So the only example you can cite resulted in death threats and assassination attempts... ho hum.
Your arrogance is astounding. People who don't agree with your head-in-the-sand fluffy thinking are usually those who have read the koran and DO understand what makes Islam tick, and quite rightly come to the conclusion that Islam, in its current 7thC belligerent form, should have no place in the 21stC. Of course, you also seem to think that people who dislike Islam also dislike all Muslims, but that's your own problem.
Are you myopic? You've not seen the attempt by Islamic countries at the UN to make criticism/parody of religion illegal? (Of course, the text of the proposal only mentions Islam...) We're heading back to the days of heresy and blasphemy trials. Of course, they already exist all over the Islamic world, but I'm sure you're fine with that coming to the rest of world too.

That site explains in great detail why music is Haram. Do you think that site is 'Islamophobic?'

What's happened to the 'liberal left' ? Why have they turned into facists and tricksters? Where is somebody who holds 'liberal', tolerant, secular, reasoned and mature views supposed to stand politically these days? It used to be on the 'liberal left' but they seemed to have forgotten what free speech and rational debate means. Instead, they screech 'racist!' 'moron'! at people they disagree with.

Muhummad states: "Allah Mighty and Majestic sent me as a guidance and mercy to believers and commanded me to do away with musical instruments, flutes, strings, crucifixes, and the affair of the pre-Islamic period of ignorance."
"On the Day of Resurrection, Allah will pour molten lead into the ears of whoever sits listening to a songstress."
The Koran is supposed to be perfect and unchanging. So these Somali Islamists are just being good devout Muslims. That's not to say that Muslims don't enjoy music, it's just that their religion forbids it, or at the very least, strongly suggests that it's un-Islamic. This is just pure logic- no 'hate', no 'bigotry'. Islam needs to revise its holy texts to avoid this sort of thing. But it can't.
