'Perverting' Islam simply means reading the Koran and doing what it says... and doing what Muhammad himself did. It's all there in the Koran and in 1400 years of Islamic military history.

Islam is not like any other organised religion, because only Islam claims (and where possible, exercises) supremacy over not only all other religions, but all other political ideologies too.
As for poverty- ok, Islamic jihadists can buy and brainwash 'poor kids.' But if these are unavailable, they employ other means to deliver the jihad, as in New York, London, Madrid, Bali etc. The jihad is the constant; poverty is just ONE weapon in the jihadists' arsenal.

Bin Laden himself is from an immensely wealthy family. The jihadist who tried to blow up Glasgow airport was a well paid surgeon. The 4 London bombers lived comfortable middle class lives. The Bali bombers included university lecturers. Poverty is universal, yet the vast majority of terrorism is perpetrated in the name of Islam. Just face the unpleasant truth: the Koran incites violence, and needs to be heaviy reinterpreted for the modern age. Yet this is seemingly impossible, since the Koran says it's the 'absolute truth', and cannot be questioned (on pain of death... literally.) A deeply troubling Catch-22, which definitely CANNOT be solved by burying your head in the sand and blaming poverty.

It's fascinating, smithinjapan / madverts, that with all the immense weight of evidence of 'Islamic terruh' (you're disgustingly disrespectful to the victims of these atrocities) you still believe there's no religious motive behind them. Even when the terroritsts themselves are saying they do if for Islam. Are they lying? Are they stupid? No- the reason is that you're in complete denial, and can't face up to an unpleasant truth.

JenniferKim is on the right lines. This isn't a 'is proselytizing a good or bad thing' discussion. It's hitting on the fundamental truth that in Islamic countries, the law is stacked firmly in Islam's interests, and minorities are suppressed. It's ok to convert TO Islam, but not from FROM Islam (once born a Muslim, you can never leave.) Other religions are suppressed, or even outright illegal (eg pracitising any religion other than Islam is illegal in Saudi Arabia.) One never hears of non-Muslim's demanding rights in Muslim countries, yet in the west, even though governments go to extremes in order to accommodate the demands of Muslims, it never seems to be enough. When it comes to reciprocation, Islam is all for 'an eye for an eye', but never 'I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine.'

Notice again how Islam is demanding change from the rest of the world while acknowledging none of its own faults.
They should join in the struggle against the extremists then. But they can't, because the extremists are simply obeying the Koran.
Customs which are illegal and/or immoral, such as forced marriage, subjugation of women, homosexuals, non-Muslims etc must be 'sacrificed'. All other customs are perfectly acceptable, and to be welcomed and encouraged, in the culturally diverse free/western world.
Fought? Mosques are springing up everywhere in the religiously tolerant free world. Contrast that with the Muslim world: in Saudi (which funds most of the mosques in the west) it's illegal to practise any religion other than Islam. And religious minorities are being increasingly harrassed/persecuted in Egypt, Pakistan, and even Obama's beloved Indonesia.

To Islamic jihadists, using 'their own' as human shields seems to be an accepted policy. Hammas follows the same 'moral' code, resulting in massive casualties. Life truly is cheap in the peaceful world of Islam.

Total rubbish. Non-Muslim Indians, Pakistanis and Arabs have no trouble at all integrating into Western society. Just a lame attempt by Islamists to play the race card.
If UK Muslims follow their faith to the letter, which is what the Saudi-funded Imams insist on, integrating into the west becomes impossible. This is because to them the only acceptable law is Sharia, which deems non-Muslims inferior, and accepts no legislation accept the word of Mohammed. Deal with the Imam problem and there might be some hope.
I also notice that other low paid communities aren't resorting to terrorism. That's probably because they don't subscribe to an ideology which advocates violence and which regards outsiders as 'the vilest of creatures' [Koran 8.55]

The UN is fast becoming the political wing of Islamic jihad. While Islamic leaders continue to call for de facto genocide of the Jews (with reference to Muslim texts) and to praise the Nazis, the UN is about outlaw criticism of Islam. Other religions remain fair game of course.

There are overwhelmingly obvious facts about Islamic doctrine, spelled out clearly in the Koran and repeatedly cited by Islamists all over the world, that some people just choose to ignore.
But as for Britons 'craving dhimmitude' - they certainly do not. However, they seem to be totally ignorant of what the Koran says, or what allowing Sharia courts to operate in the UK will lead to.
BTW, 'dhimmi' is most certainly a real word, meaning a non-Muslim living under Islamic juristriction- and consequently having to submit to various special restrictions and taxes. 'Dhimmitude' is a perfectly acceptable derivative term meaning 'the act of being a dhimmi'.
As for the acquittal: can't argue against it if the evidence wasn't conclusive. UK justice remains fair, and available to all. Until Sharia takes hold of course...

In the UK at least, certain areas of Muslim life are indeed dealt with NOW in Sharia courts. Thus a UK Muslim can have 4 wives. More importantly, he can treat them as inferiors (since the Koran says that 'men are the keepers of women' and he can even beat them with impunity (Koran 4:34). And what's more, the UK then bans a Dutch MP who protests against this.
With all this Islamification going on in the west, it's not surprising that the Taleban is rampant in Pakistan. It seems inevitable that the Taleban will gain control of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal and present the non-Islamic world (starting with India) with the very REAL threat of nuclear attack. Even the most PC of dhimmi PC ostriches must be able to see this now. Likewise, the warmongers Bush and Blair must be slapping their dense foreheads and yelling 'doh - why didn't we READ THE KORAN before deciding to attack Muslims lands??' Then they might have realised that attacking a Muslim land is a de facto attack upon Islam (in the Koran's view), giving the jihadists all the justification they need to redouble their efforts.

sabiwabi: then why do Islamic terrorists quote the Koran in their defence, and yell Allah Akubar, and speak in terms of Islam v the Infidel? The West is bending over backwards to say that the root cause of Islamic terror is NOT Islam, whereas the Islamic terrorists are saying exacly the opposite, loudy, clearly and incessantly. Who do you believe?
Islamophobe = somebody who fears Islam Since Islam is a mysogynistic, intolerant, violent, supermacist ideology I do indeed fear it, and with good reason. I think all sensible people should fear it. Therefore I'm not offended by the term 'Islamophobe'.
Being bigotted or racist is of course as low as one can get. However, if one has studied Islamic texts, being Islamophobic is just common sense.
"Agitator" is of course an unwarranted insult.

No, I was thinking of how Muslim society can integrate into non-Muslims societies. Non-Muslim societies should resist all calls for Sharia law to implemented, roll back Sharia where it already operates (like the UK), and somehow encourage Immans in non-Muslim countries to stop preaching intolerant and misogynistic values. Then successful integration may become possible. But this isn't happening because short-sighted dhimmi governments refuse to concede that there's anything wrong with Sharia or Islamic teaching. Searching for and revealing the truth about Islam to as many people as possible is the first step in rectifying this.

I actually think Islam can coexist with non-Islamic world only if it changes. But it's never going to change by itself, so outside encouragement is required. However, while politicians and other ostrich-like commentators perpetuate the dangerous fallacy that Islam is tolerant "religion of peace", no outside encouragement is going to be forthcoming. Therefore the first step in creating the conditions for a peaceful world that includes Islam is for everybody to understand that Islam has terrible problems on a unique scale (intolerance, mysogyny etc) and to address those problems appropriately. Islamic apologists are ultimately doing Islam, themselves, and everyone else, a huge disservice.

A noble sentiment. And you're free to express it because you live in a civilised, tolerant society. Try expressing that sort of sentiment in places like Saudi Arabia, Iran, the Swat Valley, or any place where Islam is the only jurisprudence, and see where it gets you.

Not yet. Even in Britain, Muslims are demanding Sharia Law. And guess what- the dhimmi government has given it to them. It's now de facto legal for a Muslim to beat his wife in the UK, since he can choose to be judged in a Sharia court. And Koran 4:34 lets him off the hook.
Irrelevant, because not only were these 1000 years ago and 400 years ago respectively, neither was justified by Christian doctrine (ie the teachings of Jesus.) Muhammed's teachings however still compel Muslims to spread Islam through violence. That's why the Crusdades happened, as an attempt to regain lands conquered by Muhammed.
The BBC/FOX/CNN/AFP/Reuters bend over backwards to avoid making the connection between Islamic terror and the Koran, while the terrorists themselves bend over backwards to do the opposite.
If more Muslims were indignant at 'Angry-Beardy' the problem might be solved.
Islam can only coexist with the non-Islamic world if the reason d'etre of its extremist terrorists, the actual teaching of Muhammed himself, are re-interpreted in a modern, civilised context. But if one tries to do that, one becomes the subject of a fatwa.
LostinNagoya: whitewashing the negative aspects of Islam, and thereby allowing Sharia Law and its mediaeval treatment of women, gays, adultery etc to spring up everywhere, is contributing to the downfall of enlightened society. Conversely, encouraging Islam to drop its barbaric verses and to modernise is serving an enlighted society.
