Exactly my point, they are not hunting in their waters. If they were hunting in their waters, it wouldn't be such a big deal to the international community

Red herring. Can you name a nation that does not fish in international waters?

note: paraguay and mongolia do not count

Triumvere is on target. The context of employer-employee makes the behavior more than boorish. It's abuse of power. (Assuming she is telling the truth.)

So you believe every country with an American base wants that base? Are you under the impression that the Australian people were polled on this question? Or do you consider the few people in government who made the decision to "be the country"?

Phillipines people wanted the US base closed. It was closed. If the Aussie people don't want a base, they don't have to get a base.

I know that Cain was CEO of the NRA, but that does not mean such information cannot be kept from the man. I see no reason to believe that its impossible the legal department could not have acted under direction from certain members of the board, such as the chairman, and essentially kept Cain in the dark. And why not?

There is zero chance that the lawyers would not have brought this to Cain. That is not how business associations work.

    @Smith

Thank you for properly interpreting and defending my comment.

Olympus on Tuesday revealed that it had covered up investment losses from the 1990s and then tried to conceal them with acquisitions made between 2006 and 2008. The deals had come under scrutiny due to the size of fees involved.

No, they came under scrutiny because an honest new president bothered to look at the books instead of looking the other way.

Next thing ya know, they'll be calling him Herman "Jungle Fever" Cain.

It would be Herman "Where Da White Women At" Cain; but this angle is moot.

But, he didn't pay them money. The NRA did. Cain did not settle with the women. The NRA did. Was he actually involved in those negotiations?

Obviously the NRA are in on the conspiracy to discredit Cain, and they have been for a while. Also, moon landing was faked.

If MW is brought back to lead and clean house, and the rest of the board fall on their proverbial swords, there's a very reasonable chance that the Olympus brand may still retain its value worldwide; but it must be done without further delay. As things stand, those old suits will just continue to sully the name.

There's still the FBI investigation, and the possibility that other financial shenanigans will be found. Analysts are saying not to buy Olympus shares just yet.

The TPP issues are much larger than merely connected to Farmers/Agriculture. They cover a broad range of subjects which will tear a country's very fabric. One example will be the entrance of multinational pharmaceutical countries and health insurance companies . For Japan this will be a major impact as they will try to change the Health Insurance policies and poses serous consequences.

This is a good point, but I think you've been snowed by big jpharma, Jazz. Jpharma has two stated objections:

    1) There will be an influx of dangerous foreign drugs.

    2) Japan will lose its national health care scheme.

Objection 1 is typical protectionist claptrap. Objection 2 is also dubious, since Japan is still able to set rules for its domestic health system, provided that the rules apply equally.

These objections are an attempt to stir up opposition among medical professionals and the general public. In fact, jpharma does not want to compete and lose its cushy position. Hospitals are losing money and there is a shortage of OB-GYN specialists. But the one part of the health care industry that's doing great is pharmaceuticals. When basic meds like antibiotics cost more than an MRI, something is not adding up. Japan has essentially outsourced the profitable part of health care to jpharma.

There is one valid concern about drugs under TPP. Apparently, the agreement may change the rules for collective bargaining of meds. That is, smart countries (Canada, Australia) use the huge buying power of the public health care system to negotiate lower prices on meds. There was some objection in Australia that the TPP, which calls on drugs to be purchased at market prices, would undermine this cost-saving feature to the benefit of international pharma.

Anyway, this is what I took away from a quick survey after a doctor friend told me he was worried the TPP would cause Japan's health care system to crumble.

The argument from the farmers is a mix of protectionism and legitimate concern over national food security, especially now that the world has entered into what the UN World Food Program calls a "post food surplus era." The farmers care about keeping their protected market. The government reps care about keeping the farm vote, as well as holding off any more decreases in food self-sufficiency.

Not a black and white issue, although I tend to favor free trade agreements.

And as for Patrick Smash question on how many Japanese have died at the hands of Russians, there was a incident in 2006 where a Japanese fisherman was shot in the head.

Right. Over the border in Kunashiri waters.

It's amazing that some people will claim this woman is untalented when she sings using her own voice

Um ... that's WHY they claim she's untalented.

She can dance. But I've seen better vocal chops at the nikuya-san.

Substitute "fishing" for "hunting" and this old story applies:

A hunter is sitting in his blind when he sees a bear. He aims and fires and sees the bear go down. When he gets to the spot the bear is nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden he feels a tap on his shoulder. He turns around and its the bear who gives him 2 options: he could eat him or he can let the bear have its way with him. The hunter picks the second option. After it is all done the man swears revenge. He goes to the gun store and buys the most powerful and accurate gun they have. Next weekend he is sitting in his stand and he sees the bear. He takes aim slowly, shoots and sees the bear go down. He goes to the spot and once agian the bear is not there. He feels a tap on his shoulder and turns around. It is the bear agian. The bear looks at him and says, "You're not really here for the hunting, are you?"
