Tofu and takkyubin are reasonable. The crazy items are those that are off by a factor of more than ten.
ASPIRIN US...100 tablets = 100 yen Japan...12 tablets = 1000 yen Almost 100 times the price.
RICOTTA CHEESE US...800 g = 400 yen Japan...200 g = 1000 yen Ten times the price.

So how do neighborhood yaoyas sell them for so much less?
And in many cases, the overall carbon efficiency is higher for produce shipped from far away. Bananas from the Phillipines vs. hothouse Hokkaido strawberries? Not always clear cut which is more efficient. Although in this particular example I'm comparing apples and oranges.

You may find the FBI definition too expansive, but your definition is certainly too restrictive.
