    @canuck

There is a high likelihood that many of the female 'suicides' are actually murders. Less than 3% of suspicious deaths (which include suicides) are autopsied in Japan. My wife's best friend was murdered by her husband and he claimed it was suicide. The police did not even come to the house to look at the body, instead taking his word for it.

An even greater skew is suicides misreported as accidental deaths. My gf is an insurance claims handler and she says she sees cases of clear suicide that the police treat as accident to spare embarrassment. Found dead with a smoking hibachi in the back of the car with the doors closed? Accidental death. Yeah, right. Remember, that's the rest of us paying extra on insurance to cover these suicides, so we have a stake in this.

She's now involved in what's clearly a murder case, but the cops have only just begun to treat it as suspicious. I can't give the details, because it's an ongoing case, but the whole thing reeks. I asked her if she thinks the perp will break under questioning. She said "Definitely, if the police manage to get it that far." So far, they haven't questionned the people involved.

There's a Simpson-like logic to these Scottish arguments.

OJ: I'm innocent! (Now can I have my bloody glove back.)

Scots: Why dae ya glaekit dobbers nae realize we're already an independent country? (Now can we hae oor independence?)

the SM2 should have been ordered (and made) to remove itself from Aussie waters before any activists had a chance to breach its 'security'.

They would have if they could have Cleo, but it would been illegal. Hence they didn't.

I might be convinced they are vigilantes worst case but again that is not terrorism.

Dictionary definition: sabotage intended to hinder activities that are considered damaging to the environment

FBI definition: the use or threatened use of violence of a criminal nature against people or property by an environmentally oriented, subnational group for environmental-political reasons, or aimed at an audience beyond the target, often of a symbolic nature.

By either standard, the vigilante activists are ecoterrorists.

Flavored with ketchup rather than tomato sauce, Turkish rice is the perfect dish for those times when you’re looking as much for nostalgia as for volume.

    Also, @YuriOtani,

all countries except landlocked ones fish outside their waters. If you want Japan to fish only in its own terrirtorial waters, then that should apply to all other countries. And yet you are strangely silent on Australia fishing outside it's territorial waters. Why is that?

Now that Ossan has proven you incorrect on this point, which you repeated twice without verification, I hope you will join me in thanking him for his hard work and committment to backing up his facts. Thank you, Ossan.

Abe supposes that a key factor is that approximately half of female workers are not employed as regular company staff with full salary, bonus and social insurance, but as part-timers or worker dispatch firms.

They are employed as worker disptach firms? Huh?

the Gyudon Index works well in Japan

It works perfectly: No matter where you are in Japan, the gyudon converts into exactly the same price in yen.

Carbon dioxide produced by machinery working on the up to 250-hectare site will be channeled back to crops to boost their growth and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, the Nikkei newspaper said this week.

How is this different from current methods? The plants take up some of the carbon emissions in any type of farming that relies on fossil fuel combustion.

    What about hunters and ranchers?

Ranchers, okay if they really need to be armed for their professional duties.

Hunters, I suppose. People don't need to hunt, just like they don't need to fish. The difference is, no-one blows their brains out with carbon monofilament.

I'm anti-gun, and home use is the only situation where I support gun ownership.

Or course, the owners forget that they're more likely to use the gun for suicide, domestic violence or accidental misfire than for defense, but as long as they keep it off the street, I believe people have the right to be as dumb as they want.
