I get tired of attending these events. I'm always seated next to the mouthy teachers who can't get enough of laughing at stupid one-liners and stuff I'd rather not hear. Just pay attention to the presenter.

China’s nationalism occasionally bubbles over into xenophobia. Scores of foreign missionaries were slaughtered in the 1900 anti-West Boxer Rebellion. Chinese youth beat up foreign diplomats during the 1966-76 Cultural Revolution.

“This is a country that could be turned xenophobic very quickly, because people in school are still taught about the Opium Wars and all the unfairness that has happened in the past,” said McGregor, who called the rising nationalism “worrisome.”

"Earlier this month, an amateur video con China’s Twitter-like sites showed a British man allegedly sexually assaulting a Chinese woman near a Beijing mall and then being beaten up by Chinese men."

This is good. Japan should follow suit by beating up white men who steal Japanese women.

@stantheman<<<, sad, bitter men. They are living in a past where Japan actually had some international power. Now the rest of the world just views Japan for what it is, an insignificant country that is almost bankrupt. If these right wing-nuts actually travelled a bit they would see just how much the rest of the globe practically laughs at Japan. Sad, lonely, bitter men.

Your assertion that Japan is insignificant and almost bankrupt is what's really sad. They are not right-wing nuts, they are Japanese citizens with strong conservative views about their country. Unfortunately, they are not ango like most of the posters on here who attack and belittle them. You live here and belittle men who stand up for their country. They are not nuts. They are far more intelligent than you think. No one is laughing.

A small monument was erected in memory of the so-called comfort women in a U.S. Park by a group of Korean organizers. This was done in order to preserve the memory of those who were brutally mistreated by the Japanese military. My question. Why? And why did the mayor of a small town agree to allow it to be built in a U.S. Park? What purpose does it serve other then to stir up bitter sentiments from 70 years ago, something that does not serve the needs of the community as a whole.

So many good comments here. Firstly, let's draw a contrast point. When former President G.W. Bush was in office the limits of his power were unchallenged, and for the large part unhampered by both the Senate and the House, hence the term coined him as a dictator rather than a President. As for Obama, a president who has shown absolutely no principles while in office, fails to lead the nation. He wavers and compromises by being overly bipartisan and flippant. His foreign policy is an utter sham as evident with the brutal murder of Libyan leader Mohmar Ghadaffi(SP?), which the U.S. co-conspired to carry out and the myriad of other policies he's supported, like the the troop buildup in middle east.

    The list goes on.

I totally agree with this. What's the point of drinking coffee without the caffeine kick. Less sugar is good though.

I have been using Dominoe's English site for several months and am impressed at the Rakuten point integration you can use on your pizza order. If you have set up a rakuten account ( in Japanese), and have accumulated points, you can use them on your purchase, in addition to the 15% discount you get from Dominoes. The only complaint I have is that you cannot choose from the entire menu. For example, if I want to order the deep dish meat passion, the order goes through just like any other order, but you get no order history - thus, no order processed. If you call the branch where your pizza is being made they will no record of that order. Be careful. The best money value is the 2 for 1! Awesome deal.

Purchasing the land is one thing, it's the water around it that's more important. Mr. Ishihara isn't interested in those rocks, and neither is China, per se. It's natural resources and marine life, so hopefully Mr. Ishihara doesn't get caught up in a Catch 22 deal where he buys the island, and forgets to include the territorial waters around it, which matter most. He should be focusing on that just as fervently.

@frontandcente>>> Tokyo has many islands within in its territories. Senkaku isn't one of them, but if you recall Mr. Ishihara flew to Okinawa to speak with the Governor there, in private. That was recently.... They were probably negotiating a money deal to back the legitimate purchase of the islands through garnering a national consensus using the media. So while it appears that Mr. Ishihara is over asserting himself, he's actually doing the governor of Okinawa a favor, even though these islands may not fall under Tokyo's territory.

It's a political move to solidify his new Tachiagare Party. All the right things are happening, you just need to censure the foreign press from the lies and smear. This is Japan.

Mr. Ishihara makes some salient points. The Japanese government is stupid, and this why he is taking front and center and showing real leadership where there's no leadership. The Japanese government are just a bunch of apologist to the West. The issue surrounding Senkaku is very important and should be dealt with immediately, not later. Mr. Ishihara has every right to assert his intentions. After all, he is Japanese, and this is Japan.

@tigermohII - However way you or the journalist word it makes no difference. These vets are reveling in their success which saw to the murder of non-combatants, most of which were old men, women, and babies. Had they failed to reach their targets, and had survived, they would not be celebrating, and they most certainly wouldn't be on the front page of JT. Their success meant achieving " shock & awe!" It's how JT skews it, along with the press that makes it appear that they only did it for their friends. The man who was beheaded deserved it! The Japanese should hail that man a hero. That would be fair reporting, not this Anglo-worship garbage press.

The Dolittle Raids was no suicide mission. These men weren't kamikaze, so stop making them out to appear like they were prepared to commit suicide when they clearly weren't.

@tyler Vendenberg - This article is about the Dolittle Raids and the men behind that attack - senseless attack. The Dolittle Raid was not a suicide mission. The rest is your spin, like the ' god & country' most vets shout. It's hypocrisy. This article should not glorify these pilots on a Japanese syndicated news platform. It is disrespectful. The victims should be remembered, not the killers who did it! The world has truly entered a new Dark Age.
