I did find a little confusion on the amount, some of the news sites said 33 million others said 3.3 million, Im not sure which one is correct..

My wife and I (she is a greencard holder) never agree on who, but this time we both didnt like either of the big two:) She voted but I dont know who it was she voted for, I never ask, I just know it wasnt the big two...

As far as McCain getting a letter to Russia's Un rep... Most likely it was just an address to send to and not the person.. Not a big deal, Obama sent one to my father and hes been dead for two years.... He didnt complain too much about it:)

I would love to see that study.. Can you post some links to nonpartisan web sites that show these studies?

Considering that most studies show Americans buy or vote based on sound bites and 30 second commercials...

To say Japanese are worse then other countries is turning a blind eye to your own countrys peoples lack of compassion. When I lived in the states I could see thousands of people walk pass a real homeless person and never even look.

Also this guy is most likely a early morning still drunk guy and not a homeless based on the fact he has too nice of an outfit, his hair is kept and his position is one of a drunk and not a homeless who would be sprawled out asleep... and that might be whats left of his booze dinner on the ground next to him..

Homeless is a problem that the Japanese goverment ignores, therefore most of the people do too, but in Japan its much easier for them to get food and items since everything is easier to steal/find...

If you want to see real homeless then walk down to the park by the imperial palace, they sleep there in mass....

It it takes 600 million dollars to hire the man who can turn our nation's direction into one of less greed and division and more towards solving problems then I think it is ultimately well spent.

Too bad we have no idea if we spent the money for that person or just another one of the many political leaders who talks what we want to hear but delievers nothing as usual..

Not until his term is in swing for 3 years will we know if we got a rock or a ruby....

Im guessing we get another pet rock.....

some people have to live with the thought that everyone is trying to get away with something or their own pathetic life wouldnt be without excitment...

    Get over it..

Why would police who had nothing to do with him (and dont say to solve the case he was already convicted of murder, and LA has tons of unsolved ones) because his crime was 27 years ago do anything to him??

He figured he was going to be bubbas girl so he offed himself, dont give him any power by making him news again...

Some call anything socialist they dont like, others call it Bush... Whats the difference? Both groups use terms to improperly describe the others beliefs or party candidates..

A true socialist economy would be perfect everyone as rich as the other, all things paid..., but it cant happen because greed is a factor.....

    Peace! *:)

    LFRAgain..

Have you heard of Taco Johns?

Have you heard of Taco Bell?

Seems taco bell spends 4 times what Taco Johns does for Advertising...

It makes a difference, even in this election..

McCain's actions dont help him but his inability to shower the people with commercials and email ads every 5 seconds does effect his chances of getting voters.

Americans are very much influenced by what they read and what they see on TV...

If this wasnt true would all those worthless wieghtloss programs and equipment ever sell... QVC ..... you name it and advertisment plays a huge part in selling anything...

This doesnt mean McCain hasnt shot his own foot, but Obama isn't ahead by the numbers he is only based on McCains talk, his Advertising campaign is a huge part of his popularity...And a very expensive to boot...

In politics it is a black and white world... but the sad part is the people of America are a shade between and the political people only vote for the black(red) or white(blue) when most people are truly inbetween both of those political extremist views..

I still say its funny all those saying bad things about Powell are now claiming they love him..

Just for the record I like Powell and wish he was running as an Independent against both of these guys.....

Gates/Jobs 2012 a team with a record to show profit, help the world, and actually do change...

rjd jr its called a status of forces agreement and we have those in most countries we are in.. Military has its own set of laws and even though you wont believe it they are much stricter then the countries laws they are in.

The reason is simple for this type of agreement..

The US goverment doesn want American secrets and American classified information known by its forces members getting revealed during questioning(torture) from another country..

The second reason is the military could not teach all the laws of all the countries that the military is in. The military personal dont know all the laws and could get jailed for very minor things and be considered awol.

And just so you know an American military personal can be handed over to the local law if the goverment feels they should, and it happens allot more then most know..

As we have seen the US military usually have far harder sentencing then the crime would of been in civilian court..

An exapmle.. smoking pot in the military will get you half months times two, reduction in rate, 30 days restriction, and an dishonorable discharge..

In civilian world its a ticket if anything....

    Smith..

Hate to disagree with you on part of your statement, but we never had a real surplus(we had a budget surplus and it wasnt enough to lower the debt any real amount--the total for his time was around 336billion-442billion) since we never had a debt free year in the Clinton Administration, we actually had an increase in the national debt under him too. Mind you it was only half of what it is now and Bush did a horrid job keeping the debt in check. And according to all information on the two candidates the problem will increase between 3.5 trillion - 5.7 trillion with them (lower is Obama)

Use the tool on this federal site (it will only let you go back to 1-4-1993 but it gives a good picture of the year to year increase in the debt..

I read (and I hope my numbers are correct) the top 1-5% of income earners pay more in taxes then the total of the lower 95-99%%(im not sure if it was the top 1 or 5 % so thats why the double numbers)

Good Donkey your post was spot on... And based on the fact that most people in the higher tax amounts can and do use more deductions they dont even pay the whole 1.7% in the end...

I still think a flat rate is the best way to go...

My only concern is very basic... Should we be lowering taxes when we cant balance our budget and pay down our debt?

Like I said I would rather pay my taxes during the year and get this debt paid down , then get another rebate, or tax decrease... But I dont like to be in debt..

Sezwho2 I just inputted Joes actual data... single father making 40k a year with child expense and a small retirement... I also can get my info at many other places but its hard to object to it if its from Obamas actual site:)

    http://www.taxfoundation.org/candidates08/compare/

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html

    http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/UploadedPDF/411749updatedcandidates.pdf

Im no tax person, but with both of them using the george bush tax cuts (other then Obama taking it away for those 250k and above, you have no other verdict then they both are lowing taxes on all people since they are both using the same base... After that tax cut they have other programs that lower or raise taxes from that point.. Everything I have read shows both have tax cuts for people in the 0- 226k and McCain has cuts above that...

Also Obama has a much better rate from 66k and below, bu they are almost equal at 66-160 then McCain is better after that...

Thats just base line tax savings with out the other tax options...

So the statement was McCain doesnt cut Joe the Plumbers tax at his present pay would be incorrect I think..

I dont think he is saying he will decrease his taxes.. And depending on the person the tax rebate is different.. I actually get a better rebate with McCain then Obama,But my Mother does better under Obama then McCain..

Im one who would rather pay the taxes (since after deductions and such Im not going to pay anything at the end of the year) and have the goverment paying as it goes, but allot would rather have the goverment push this off to my grandkids...

Also the 3% tax increase isnt going to matter to anyone who earns 250k or more because they will find a way not to pay it just like they always have.. So in my opinion the tax increase isnt going to produce much revenue..
