The best performance of his career was certainly "The Verdict" but somehow the scenes in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" linger on as iconic of Newman the Screen Legend.

He was great in "The Verdict" and did not win the Best Actor Oscar for that year only because he was up against Ben Kingsley in "Gandhi". We'll always have Butch Cassidy and Newman's Own salad dressing. Truly a legend in his own time.

Koizumi will be remembered like Ronald Reagan--much better than he actually was during his years in office. People already have forgotten the real reason he went to North Korea to meet Kim Jong Il and bring back Jenkins and company: to deflect attention from his domestic problems. He was a…

The written language is a problem, no doubt. Consider the following situation: ask an average ability Japanese learner who has been studying English for one year to read from a college-level English text and he/she can do it, no problem--phonetically they may make a few mistakes in pronunciation, but at…

I don't know if the timing is right. Koizumi steps down right after Aso is named PM, after having supported Koike Yuriko in the run-up to the inevitable conclusion. It makes it look as though Koizumi is ending his illustrious career in ashes of defeat, not a blaze of glory.

As is infamously known, SMAP stands for "Sports Music Assemble People". Kind of fitting, since all you have to do is assemble some no-talent people and you have a group like SMAP.

All the leaves are brown, and the sky is grey. I've been for a walk, on such a summer's day. Shinjuku Gyoen dreamin' on such a summer's day.

Amazing orange color on those birds. They really seem to symbolize Japan. Like the hanko-stamp color.

Good luck to them. I hope they make out in the wild, if you know what I mean. Maybe we should name a beer after them. You know, Ibis Beer.
