"The reason why Japan sends aid in this third stage is because we have so much experience in dealing with the aftermath of quakes," he said.
Ha! That's classic inane logic. So maybe they should wait till the fourth stage since they are experts on slow responses.

Just looked at the BBC website in which there is a prominent photo of rescuers from Taiwan in Haiti. I guess Japan is opting to take the slow road to action.

One positive benefit of the Internet age is that the world comes together to help people in times of crisis like this more rapidly than ever before. We saw that with the U.S. response from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Now we await the Japanese response.

They look like they are ready to take on Caesar (played by the late Roddy McDowell) and company in "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes". The apes won and took over the planet.

A netbook is like an inexpensive interim laptop computer, but with a lot of compromises, the biggest being the tiny keyboards and the lack of screen real estate. It does the job but you don't want to spend too much time using them. As for portability, they are just heavy enough to be irritating.

The answer the questions begs is of course Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, the Way of the Intercepting Fist. Tales of his bouts as a street fighter are legend. But maybe that was more the man than the method.

The only thing missing is Julie Andrews singing, "These are a few of my favorite things!" (That "Sound of Music" song is used in JR Western Japan's TV commercials promoting tourism to Kyoto).

Ironic, isn't it, that some of the strongest leaders in the history of the world are always remembered for their acts of humility, not for their acts of arrogance. Wasn't it Jesus of Nazareth who washed the feet of his disciples?

Nice shot. An excellent composition. I like how the photographer framed the roof of the temple with the leaves in the foreground. And you can see the excitement in people's faces. These folks are lucky to be traveling to Kyoto at this time of year.

So when Hillary Clinton meets the Queen of England she isn't supposed to curtsy because American Secretaries of States don't defer to foreign monarchs? Obama was simply showing respect for another culture, in whatever culture he is in. It's in line with Obama saying he's a "Pacific President." He knows the understands the cultures of the Pacific. Hey, he can boogie, too, unlike former U.S. Presidents.

In case somebody really wants an honest answer, SMAP stands for "Sports Music Assemble People" in very Japanese-sounding weird English. Don't ask me what "assemble people" means. They are better cooks than they are singers, that's for damn sure.

TBS did call Mr. Hawker and asked him, idiotically, "Have you talked to other people about this?" And he replied, "No, because I am talking to you right now on the phone." Not only disgraceful but at least they could have thought up some better questions.

"Jackie Brown" was cool and likable, thanks to Samuel L. Jackson mainly. He also saves "Pulp Fiction" from being a self-indulgent mess. But Tarentino lost me with the "Kill Bill" flicks. Maybe it's not so much that Tarentino films are so good; most Sam Jackson films tend to be good ones.
