Serling practically coined the phrase "Witness if you will..." You know of course he wrote the screenplay for "Planet of the Apes". Watching the series now is like going back to a more innocent time, a time before JFK, a time before Vietnam, before cell phones...

Didn't know Ken Watanabe had such a cute and leggy daughter. Hard to be a Scrooge with her around, eh?

The Obamas and the Hatoyamas. Hey, they share the same last "ama"s. Must have met in a previous lifetime.

They are at least trying to give the impression that they are hitting the ground running, which is good. They get an "A" for effort. And at this point they seem to be showing a good deal more transparency than their predecessors. If they manage to stay clear of Ozawa's scandal-ridden past, they should do well. "Renewal Minister" Mizuho Fukushima seems like a forthright person of integrity. Hopefully she can do some good renewing.

Saw the 77 year old finance minister Hirohisa Fujii on NHK last night. He seemed to be most mentally alert and coherent of the bunch. He knows what he's talking about, unlike some of the others. Okada on the other hand...

One should remember the words of John Adams from the musical 1776:
"Mr. Jefferson, dear Mr. Jefferson I'm only 41; I still have my virility. And I can romp through Cupid's Grove with great agility. But life is more than sexual combustibility."
He wasn't a Founding Father for nuthin'.

John Lennon must be rolling over in his grave about this. Seriously. The life of the Beatles reduced to an interactive computer game. The music, cleaned up and sanitized of all its warts and peculiarities for the grandchildren of baby boomers. Roll Over Beethoven.

The Instrument of Surrender, the document signed on this ship, can be seen in a display case at the Tokyo Edo Museum in Ryogoku. Not exactly a long line to see it.
