I'd have to agree with gogogo! A little motivational physical therapy (which might remove a few teeth in the process) and some encouragement exiting through the window would solve the geek problem!

"Within minutes of opening the annual conference, the commission’s deputy chairman, Anthony Liverpool, adjourned the open sessions for two days to give pro- and anti-whaling countries a chance to discuss whether a compromise was possible."
At this point the Japanese delegate was seen pulling out his fat wallet ..... off to buy some votes!

I think Taijii will be the first town in Japan to put up the "No Foreigners Allowed" sign at the town line! While their intentions are good I have to agree that continuing to hammer the town will just increase the hatred they already have against foreigners telling them what to do. They may even increase the killings just to continue their culture arguement.

So lets see here. We have the Japanese GOVERNMENT spending TAXPAYER money on prostitutes (who I'll bet were NOT Japanese) to buy votes of IWC members. Then the same government hands out CASH to foreign officials for more "conference" expenses. If these stories are proven true all Japanese government officials should be arrested, and those countries who took the bribes expelled from the IWC. Japan should then be expelled from the IWC and informed that ANY future whaling activities would be considered illegal and met with force. Time to start shaming the Japanese government a little!

This should not surprise anyone since it is just Japan's normal way of doing business.

Okay, I know what "director" means and "actress" is pretty easy to figure out! Will somebody explain why the Japanese seem to love using the word "talent" Why not be specific? Can she sing, act, dance? If all she can do is stand there looking good then "eye candy" would be more appropriate.

"On my computer, "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China" is printed."
And then it was sent to the USA, packaged, and exported! Just think if it said "Designed in China. Manufactured in China." I'd be afraid to turn the thing on!

Why not just unplug all muslim countries from the internet completely? That should zero out the risk of them finding anything offensive! I think people who create pages like this, knowing it's going to piss people off, need to get a friggin life. Yes, I know we have freedom of speech and expression but with that freedom comes a bit of responsibility. Having a freedom and flaunting it just to make someone angry is immature and stupid. Now, having said that, Islam and Muslims need to realize how their "Jihad against everything" attitude is doing nothing more than inciting hatred and isolating them.

Making it illegal is only a start (yes, possession is STILL legal in Japan!). Laws need to be enforced by a functioning police force. This is where Japan runs into problems, too many of the cops are on the take from the yaks and turn a blind eye (or don't even bother to look in the right direction in the first place). Then you have to educate society that child exploitation is wrong. Many will see this as another form of Japan-bashing and resist with the usual "you can't tell us what to do" mentality. While a great many people want to make the problem go away, the ugly reality is it will be very hard thing to accomplish.

There are definitely measures that the US and other countries can take to pressure Japan into signing and enforcing the treaty provisions. The key iissue will be getting Japan to ENFORCE the treaty. Japan is well-known for applying laws and treaties to suit the needs of its own population first. Japan can and will exploit every loophole in the treaty under the guise of protecting it's citizens from "abusive foreign spouses". Maybe if Japanese women who have outstanding arrest warrents in other countries (like Mrs. Savoie) were put on the Interpol international wanted list and their extradition requested, Japan would come to understand the issue of parental rights is important to the rest of the world. Until pressure is applied Japan will conntinue its harboring of kidnappers while condemming other nations for the same acts!

Pakistan is only an ally of the US as long as the money keeps flowing into the right bank accounts. I wouldn't trust them any more then the stooge the US put into power in Afghanistan. Don't forget that most of the terrorists who got away from the US in Afghanistan are now operating out of Pakistan. The fact that I would bet 100% of them are Islamic carrying out Islamic jihad against the US does sort of put the religion into the topic doesn't it?

As someone who grew up in Arizona I have to say I'm a little embarassed by this new law. It's not going to do a damn thing to stem the tide of illegal immigrants. Now those in the country legally will be subject to random stops and checks by the police. Looking Mexican is now probable cause for "papers please" checks by the police. I have friends who are police officers in Phoenix and THEY are against the law because THEY know it will create racial profiling and harassment.
Let me compare Arizona's new law to something foreigners here in Japan can understand a little better. Japanese police can and do frequently stop foreigners for "gaijin card checks", hoping to catch you without it so they can lock you up, fine you tens of thousands of yen, and chalk up another terrible foreign crime statistic (and that's just for not having it ON YOU AT THE TIME!) Racist right? I think so! But after living here for 15 years I know that just being a foreigner can make you suspect to a bored cop with nothing better to do.
At least I know my Phoenix police officer friends have good judgement and professionalism! Hopefully they can come up with better ways to make immigration laws work without resorting to these Nazi Gestapo-like tactics!
