This has got be costing the Japanese government billions of yen to buy all these countries off! I love the statement about "the big players" continuing to fish. Japan imports 80 PERCENT of what these so called big players catch, that means Japan is eating 80 percent of the tuna caught. To me that means Japan is a little player with a BIG APETITE!

When the tuna is extinct they'll complain that the 20% the rest of the world consumes drove it over the edge!

The only REAL research the Japanese care about is TASTE! How can that be obtained without slaughtering a few thousand whales?

Free and easy to access mental health care that cares about the people. Support networks for families of people with mental health issues. Remove the stigma of mental health illnesses in Japanese society. Better social welfare programs to help the unemployed get training and find jobs. Focus the education system on producing functioning young adults with job skills (instead of mindless robots programmed to pass entrance exams). and oh yeah, legalizing weed would sure help in helping people chilling out (not to mention the secondary effect of stimulating the sales of munchies at combinis across the country!)

I wonder what he's dreaming about? Maybe the session ended and everybody left quietly so as not to wake him.

Just wait! Very soon every fishing port in Japan will have "NO FOREIGNER'S" signs posted all around them to keep us out! Whole coastal villages might ban foreigners completely!

And yes, I have seen "The Cove" and the only reason it might seem one-sided is that only ONE SIDE managed to behave in a civilized manner and maintain their composure.

Time for the slaves to turn on their masters! Lets see some bullying of managers for a change!

Except for a few organizations trying desperately to change the views of suicide and offer people help, I think the majority of Japanese people still view it as an honorable way out. I hope those who care continue and don't give up!

Garmin does produce an English version of it Nav-u software on an SD card for 19,800 Yen. It is expensive but I recently bought a system for a work car and have to say it's just as good as the Japanese software. Some curious coworkers also popped the SD card into a US-made Garmin Navi and it worked just fine (except for the telephone number search function).

37,000 is a good price but I agree, the mount should be included (Garmin includes one with their bike units).

Dropped my Sky service 12 years ago and now the only thing I watch is the NHK 7 PM news a few times a week (great for curing constipation!) TV is something I don't miss one bit!

In a civilised country assault that results in bodily injury is a crime. If you commit the crime the police will arrest you and you will be punished accordingly. This is Japan ... enough said!

It seems like the effects of methyl-mecury poisoning are starting to show - loss of intelligence! I don't know anywhere in the world that can justify the eating of something that contains dangerous levels of heavy metal contaminants ... except Taiji. Let them keep up the hunt, it'll do wonders for Japan's (negative, third-world) image around the world!

I think they already found a distributor willing to handle the film but they want to obscure the faces of all Japanese who appear in the film because they've complained that permission to film wasn't obtained in advance and some claim they didn't know they were being filmed. Hard to imagine that someone can be so stupid as to yell into a camera in their face and NOT think it might be recording them.

I hope the film is released in Japan and I'd like to see it available in video rental stores too. I really hope that the producers take care to ensure their now Oscar-winning film isn't recut to suit Japan's viewpoint.

I can assure you ladies there are a number of husbands who feel exactly the same about you! If you're husbands are heading to the hostess clubs and staying out all night maybe you should take a good hard look in the mirror before blaming them!

I have no opposition to Japan whaling for commercial purposes as long as they remain WITHIN THEIR OWN TERRITORIAL EEZ! When they have killed every last whale in their own waters (which will take them only a few short years if they aren't strictly monitored) then whaling ends for Japan - PERIOD!

I do wonder how much money Japan is "donating" to IWC member nations to "influence" the vote in thier favor?

Does anyone else out there see Japan's present political behavior in the face of western condemnation over whaling as somewhat similiar to it's behavior just prior to December 7th 1941? "You can't tell us what to do! We're Japanese so anything we do is okay! Please step out of our way as we dominate Asia while continuing diplomacy with you."
