Kentaro75, I don't think the lies are foreign! Japan has many time admitted it can only supply approximately 40% of its own food. Your government is well known for placing profit ahead of its own people and I don't see anything changing in the future. Joining the TPP might not be the best thing for Japan it is a step in the right direction. Japan should consider opening some of its markets to foreign imports and foreign countries will I'm sure open theirs to Japanese products. If Japan wants to isolate itself economically, then other countries should impose equally high tariffs on Japanese products to keep the playing field level. Imagine how many Japanese cars and tires Americans would buy if the tariff was increased to 100%?

It is sad that the only way Japan can "win trust" is by buying, bribing, and extorting it! I particularly like how Noda said that Japan should deal with these "inappropriate cases when they surface". This continues to uphold my belief that it's only illegal if you get caught. let's have independent auditors check the books of all major corporations to see what other mass graves can be dug out of the financial closets! Anyone who thinks Olympus is the only one cooking the books has their head in the sand.

Japan might join the discussions but in the end it will insist on maintaining the status quo on it current protectionist tariffs. At that point the other countries will politely ask Japan to "not let the door hit them in the ass on the way out!" The world no longer needs Japan. The Sout Korean electronics and automobile industries are growing fast and will soon be (many think they already are) on par with Japan. Japan's industry will hollow out to the point where everything in Japan is "made somewhere else" and unemployment will reach double digits before Japan defaults on its massive debt.
Just my prediction ...

Just announcing the Japan will join is only a starting gesture. Japan has to be accepted by the other nations and invited to join the talks. Given Japan's track record for dragging on discussions, demanding concessions, and general whining about anything that gets in the way of it's "culture" I doubt anybody will be in a hurry to issue the invite.

Just wait until they see their first paycheck in Japan! Deductions for 1. Airline ticket to Japan (at JALs highest fare of course!) 2. Company Meals 3. Housing 4. Medical Coverage 5. Japanese income taxes 6. Misc employer fees! And don't forget ... absolutely no worker rights whatsoever! Good luck!

Of course they did nothing illegal ... IN JAPAN! Massive kickbacks, bribes, corruption, money laundering etc are all NORMAL PARTS OF THE JAPANESE CORPORATE WORLD! Only in the rest of civilization are these things illegal.

Mr Wolf, you've been raiding the hen house at night, please investigate yourself and let us know what you find!
Only a complete idiot would expect Olympus to conduct a legitimate investigation of itself. Right now executives are holding up the corner of the rug while their minions sweep everything under it. Business as usual in Japan!

Of course Olympus denies any wrongdoing! What they did is perfectly normal in Japanese business and so ingrained in Japanese culture that it will never be eliminated. Japanese don't know how to compete, they only know how to fix and payoff! Every day more and more Japanese businesses are being fined for price fixing, bribery etc all around the world.
