"What's in it for Japan? Strong outflow of jobs overseas when unemployment is already ludicrously high? More cheap crap like you get at an American Walmart? Slave labor products? Just curious how this benefits anyone who's not a manager, the workers will get screwed."
With the overvalued Yen jobs and whole industries are already moving out of Japan and unemployment will increase! Most of the cheap crap at Walmart comes from China (the world's supplier of the highest quality cheap crap!), just like the cheap crap at Japanese UniGlo, Jusco, 100 Yen stores etc! The TPP would only work for Japan if Japanese could get themselves in a competitive mode and get rid of the rampant price-fixing, bribery, pork barrel projects, and general corruption that keep the wheels squeeking along in this country.

"The highest level was 470 becquerels per kilogram in Nihonmatsu. The prefectural government will buy that rice for research purposes"
I guess in Japan "research purposes" really means "given to school lunch centers and served to children"

The 4 page instruction book probably only covers things really important to TEPCO like,
For specific instructions on how to file your claim please refer to the 156 page manual

Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that this story appears only a day after the story about Prime Minister Noda's renewed interest in the abduction issue and his statement that he'd be willing to travel to North Korea? Suspicious? Who's playing who here?

@BlueWitch
I couldn't agree with you more! If it were my child I'd be going down because the coach would feel my revenge (only for a few brief seconds). I'm sure there are many Japanese who feel the same, they just need to be the ones to let their voices be heard when things like this happen.

This is a total bullsh$t ruling by a pathetic and corrupt third world justice system! It proves how little a human life means in Japan and continues to place the interests of business above everything! In most CIVILIZED countries this guy would be doing 10 to 20 years for manslaughter and facing cicil lawsuits in the millions (of $, not Yen). While you might criticize my comments consider this. Last week 3 Japanese businessmen were sentenced to 8 to 12 months in prison for price-fixing in the USA (in a sense, a victimless crime). In Japan a coach can inflict fatal injuries to a 6 year-old boy and walk away with a "slap on the wrist" fine and go right back to do it again. Something is FATALLY WRONG with Japan and it's people who continue to tolerate such disregard for the value of a human life!

New Zealand and Australia can talk the talk but it seems only Sea Shepherd can walk the walk when it comes to protecting the whales! Japan is paying $27,000,000 for "added security" just so they can conduct "scientific research"? Sounds more like egotistical bullsh$t than research to me! It's time the countries DOWN UNDER reach DOWN UNDER and see it they feel a pair! Don't just talk! Stop the Japanese with force!

So I wonder if the Japanese have modified their ships to burn light oil and added an extra hull? If not I believe their very presence south of 60 degrees latitude will be a violation of international maritime law.
