Just sign the Hague convention so that children`s parents can freely, with the backing of law, be part of the life of their children. It IS a better way. The poor children (Japanese as well) in Japan never know their Fathers and it really is the elephant in the room. And for the poor divorced Japanese in the US who cannot leave the US with their children to visit Japan because we all know what might happen. JAPAN PLEASE SIGN THE HAGUE CONVENTION FOR THE SAKE OF CHILDREN, PEACE, JUSTICE AND LOVE. The children could go visit Dad for the summer in the US. God Bless the USA and JAPAN.

National politicians should stay out of it. It is a shame to have Obama and Hatoyama campaign for a city. Looks like bribery. Brings shame on the Olympic spirit. Mayors, go for it. I wanted Rio. Hope I get to go, Good Lord willing.

DwightVanWinkle - Thanks for the info.

LFRAgain - Guess you were right and I overreacted. Pretty complicated story. Lot of issues. Just hope the Hague convention gets signed.

And not to forget trying to block her from taking the children out of the country. Future Japanese who are divorced in the US most lkely will not be able to take the children to Japan until the Hague convention is signed. LFRAgain - divorce in the States. You pay someone to live in your house who is doing your wife and raising your kids. She was not paying but just watching. Both is horrid.

LFRAgain - Watch the videos on CNN and MSN. Are you married to a Japanese girl? My friend said my wife was the first person he has ever met who never had an evil thought. Just there to please.

For Chris S. to drag his wife to the US and divorce her so soon and then to remarry so quickly and then to isolate her and have a nice family of his own with the new wife and to have her children playing with his new family`s children, as a family, without her is a bit much for anyone, especially in a foreign culture. That is not nice to do to someone you have loved. I feel for her.

    Klein - Always good advice.

It looks to me that Chris S just hurt that poor Japanese girl tremendously. I think I would have just fallen over being treated the way this guy treated her. And then to want the children. Sounds like the Koizumi story. What ambitious men will not resort too. Just totally cruel is this man.

Sarge - Quite right. I am glad my boys are culturally American. If I had a girl I would have raised her Japanese. How graceful and lovely. Guess that is why I married one. However, I am hoping that the Japanese will sign the Hague convention as all civilized nations have. Allowing the kidnapping of children is an international crime. Also, many Japanese citizens may not be able to ever bring their children to Japan if divorced overseas, because the divorced spouse is fearful of this situation above.

Know a young american who was raised in Japan. Parents of course spoke English at home. Sent him through Sho Gakko at Japanese schools and then to Canadian Academy. He went to Stanford. He is Bi-literal. Speaks and reads both languages equally well. Even wrote a book in Japanese.

Now one might ask what is the future for our children? English offers America, Europe, India, Australia, perhaps China for the future. They will know enough Japanese to get around and could study it as a second language and pass the Japanese tests for the language.

Now the cost of an International school? 160 - 200 man yen per year per child. Even a private Japanese school is 100 man yen. Or a cheap Japanese public school where our children can go with the Japanese children who failed to get into a better school. I see no future for my children in Japanese system except at the bottom of the totem pole. And do I want them locked into a future where they have no life but work? I will use an online school out of California to keep my children current. Japanese will be taught as a second language. No bullying either for the school is at home via the internet. Cost: 500USD. High school will be about 1000USD per course, but it comes with a teacher on the other end.

What about socialization? Does it even exist in Japanese society? Do not the children have to go to jukus anyways. Are not the Japanese children too busy studying for their exams! No time for play or friendship. We really miss the wonderful school system in our hometown in the USA. Wish the children could enjoy a Prom, football game, debate club, dances, basketball games, soccer etc. People have time in the US to do volunteer activities for the children as well. Indoor soccer, lacross, swimming, golf, bowling, the arts, music. Wow.

However, our children will do well no matter what, as long as there is love in our families. This is probably the most important thing we can do for our children and future generations. Be present is an old chinese proverb.

Alienation is hell, someone wrote. One alienates themselves. It would have been wise for this man to have just gone out to help others and not dwell on the poor me. He wrote that he had net worth of 250,000 USD. An arranged marriaged could have been done. Or a mail bride.

I read what was written in this idiot's blogs. He also had a Fundamental Christian interpretation of the Bible. The part where the Fundamentalist's state that one is saved by Faith alone he interpreted this to mean he could do anything and still go to heaven and see God and Jesus. It does not matter if he has faith.

In Catholic thought he will be judged by his works as well, which only makes sense. To do what he did to his neighbors has nothing to do with what Jesus taught. Quite the opposite.

tkoind2 - Very well said and most Japanese people of Good Will, will agree with you. We are all part of the beautiful human family. Now certainly they will get a laugh out of it as we do. Anyone taking this crap seriously might like to read the white supremacist stuff or even the equivalent Black American writings. In this Global times we really need to Unite to help each other globally. But the forces toward the War of All against All will be a tendency that must be avoided. I hope this DeMentor enjoys his money. I hope it does not turn out to be blood money for him.

America was the best. Kids excelled. Excellent education and sport facilities in public schools (till the 12 grade for FREE). ZERO tolerance for bullying, etc. Small town USA that is. My children are American by culture, so the Japanese language is a bit poor. So Japanese school is extremely stressful. They just do not want to go. They are all boys and strong but are told not to hurt anyone, however, protect themselves. To be frank, the Japanese kids are just too busy for a social life. It is OK, we tried to fit in and it won't work and we will still have a good life here. Found a camp for the summer just like the American lifestyle (cheap because everyone is too busy to enjoy these things) with bilingual children. The Homeschool option or bi-lingual school will work in September. Now if I had a girl I would have her raised like her mother. One cannot find a better female than a Japanese girl. Nor a better male than an American one;-) BTW I would not send by child to an American school if they were constantly being bullied. End of story.

"Everyone should have an equal opportunity to believe in whatever irrational dosh they want to believe in."

Is it Nessie? Is it really? The Big Bang Theory is pretty much proven. So is your very being. Natural sciences have traditionally been accepted by all the great Faiths, Illuminating Truths. Both Christianity, Judaism and Islam are religions of the "Book". The Big Bang Theory which helped scientist make a statement about the first trillionth of a second of the beginning of the Universe is just a mind boggling fact. People of Faith are just astonished and communication between Islam and the Judeo/Christian world would bring a great understanding of each other. Islamic countries must allow this freedom of religion. It benefits everyone.

This law in Malaysia should be taken to the world court. It is time for the Islamic world to enforce religious freedom. It is a basic human right. I think from yuudairs post, that Islam is fully capable to enhance all of our knowledge of the Love of God and His relationship to Humankind. Peace.

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke) The population must rise against this menace. It may be too late. Very scary situation for everyone except the bad guy. Time to declare martial law? Treason should be dealt with severely. The poor people.

Americans are a friendly bunch. Should take care of nice people. Roppongi beware, for whoever (underworld) is in charge may lose their authority by the powers to be. There are many Japanese overseas and I would think the J authorities would move to put an end to the Blackening of Japans image as a peaceful people. Toyota might even lose sales if this gets out to the main press in the USA that the J authorities are not protecting Americans or anyone for that matter. That video from 'disillusioned' really saddened me.

Hoolie. Good ideas. The State or fed could pass some laws for the safety of all. Yes, I did notice that in Tokyo. Much better. Probably saved a few lives as well.

himasan - You sound like the guy who ran over and killed the two year old last week. It is that attitude that kills.

Again the roads. Police do not enforce safe driving on these very narrow two way streets and of course we have this kid getting hit. Then we have the school bus crushing that child a month or so ago. People are killed left and right here. Why? Why not one ways with a line or something for pedestrians etc. Why not use eminent domain? I find many nice things in Japan but these roads will have me leaving. The poor people. I do not want my kids walking on these roads either. Really third world stuff.

God Bless you buggerlugs. Make sure the children learn English. When high school comes around, it is a financial whammy in Japan. From day one the parents are told to save, save, save...Another unneeded pressure on the poor Mom. I am considering seriously of taking the children back to the states for high school where the burden is shared by society at large (Everyone contributes). I have three children as well, and can see 100,000 USD going toward high school, and that is after taxes (rather save it for college ). Perhaps this girls parents just had no life to pay for her education. Yes, she was selfish and it is a real sad state of affairs when children are looked at as a financial burden. The US is a lot more humane in this regards.

I can really see a backlash coming in Japan to the older generation who cares not for the next generation in financial terms. Why should those children pay for those people who chose to live the good life and not have children to support them in old age? Because of the incentives of society? I think that is probably a good excuse. I just hope there are enough children to take on the burden of the older generation and that the laws change swiftly to support struggling families.
