“civilized Internet management and access.”
May be better then the "lessie faire" of the West. Like the YouTube videos for the Jonas Brothers being hijacked to feature hard core porn. If the West would enforce abuses then we could cry foul. No, The Chinese have the moral upmenship on this one. The West does have the filth. Only the Chinese will take it to the other extreme and block things like Tiananmen Square. We need a middle road for both the Middle Kingdom and the West.

With 10 brothers and sisters, their spouses and children, one can fill a reception hall quickly. But I really only have 1-2 good friends from high school time. I have seen life evolve and people just get fewer friends. Time constraints, keeping up with the Jones etc. People usually have friends at workplaces and clubs. The people of Japan just mind their own business leaving others in peace. I do the same but with an exchange of smiles now and then. That's all I need. Think Buddha or Seijin of sorts.

Everyone has an opinion. We need certainty in direction. Please read the link below. It should help. ".... Although in these cases the guilt of the individual may be reduced or completely absent, nevertheless the error of judgment into which the conscience falls, perhaps in good faith, does not change the nature of this act of killing, which will always be in itself something to be rejected..." http://www.euthanasia.com/vatican.html
Very much depends on the situation. As a society we must not induce this behavior through our structures. However, we must prepare for it through living wills etc. Very complex and decisions are made differently for each case. Flexibility and compassion is the key which should be allowed by law. Actively taking life I think should be discouraged.

"Obama's Islamic homage wins praise" I just don't like the title. How about "Obama's Speech to the Arab World Wins Praise." I read the speech and it was very well done. Homage is not the correct word. Using Islamic phrases speaking to Muslims is wise and his audience could relate. It isn't homage.

"War is Hell" as General Sherman said. As people are slaughtered on both sides the stakes rise and abominations abound. I do not blame anyone for this but WAR itself.

I read the speech. Very well done. Very presidential. Makes one proud to be an American (He should have used harsh interrogations though and not torture). He spoke of democracy, freedom of speech and religion. Tolerance. Education. Working together.
The Arab world has a very young population. If we can get a working relationship with them as they did in with us at the time of Cordoba (Spanish Moors) we would all have a bright future. Sure it was idealistic and naive, but it is something to shoot for.

Never was an issue with my children. As babies they are either hungry, needs to be changed, just tired or needs to be burped and holding them usually helped. A little older and they can get restless so I would walk them down the isles of the airplane. Feed them and they sleep. Video games and movies also entertained them. Never a problem for me nor others. No more then oversized Westerners who might have eaten too much all their lives or those people who have an overdeveloped sense of their own importance. They aren't that important. I would take a child any day and they are always welcomed. Scary world when children are no more then a nuisance.

There is a gentle spirit which is masculine and stands for what is right. The Japanese would do well to foster this in their youth.

No, just fair reporting by the media. I gave you the scenario for the use of harsh interrogation techniques. That is all. You would not sacrifice thousands yourself. But you do make a fine point on how politicians can use emergencies to further their political ambitions and perhaps harass their political opponents.

Let's say there is a threat to many people. One person captured knows where it is. You have little time. Yelling at him is torture. Sleep deprivation is torture. And of course the most effective, waterboarding, is torture. Would you use any of those techniques to get the information? Remember many will die if you cannot. Most people would answer yes.
The spin of the liberal media is our greatest enemy. It seems like it wants the destruction of America. Good luck to them once it is gone. The new world power may not be so friendly.

DenDen - just for fun. After all, Matter is just a moment of history. Is that all that matters? Without your memory of your own history you could not respond. Nor know who you are. Joseph Ratzinger had these ideas. Anyway, living in a haunted house would not bother me. Murder and Suicide would but if I had too, I think I'd get over it with perhaps a cleansing ritual of sorts. ronaldk - good luck. Go ask a real-estate agent for one.

Everton: Me neither. However, LostinNagoya, I had an interest in Para-psychology as a teen. Got lots of books. Had a dream of a car accident. Told my brothers. Two weeks later, voila, the accident. I took the para-psych books back and moved on.
LostinNagoya: Curious, your story is. I wonder about history. Yesterday there was an article about the Universe and the study of 250,000,000 year old data via a telescope (the data traveled that far). It is history they are looking at as if it was present knowing full well it is history. Have you heard of the fulfillment of history? There is something more to history than just the past. It was important to the ancients to be remembered for some reason. The idea of Ritual may comes into play here...the reenactment of past history or at least the memory of such events. Does it actually bring a piece of history to the present? I do not know but I do go to Mass most Sundays. "Memory and History: How it affects our perception of places and things" might be a good title for a book. Good luck with your gift. A new frontier!

How about the power of suggestion, jonnyboy? That is why one needs a firm foundation. For me. No thanks. Do not wish to live there nor wear the sweater:-0. Too spooooooky...oooo...kidding. But something like why people put flowers where someone died in a traffic accident. History of a place matters only if we remember it.
I think we know everyplace has a history. And thing. Mount of Olives. Battlefields. Are just a few examples. What does it means to the present? "Journey Through Hallowed Ground, Gettysburg National Military Park..." http://www.hallowedground.org... The question for this article might be does the past action affect the present state of the place as in Hallow Ground (opposite direction)? Or is it just our memory that gives the place its special meaning. I think memory and that is why the sweater was uncomfortable. A memory of a bad event became associated with something.

Very good idea. Just set up the proper supervision so abuse does not happen. Pay well. One has to eat and there is work to be had. Most people will step up to the plate.
