Very good response Grafton. Do not make or convince others of your cruel choice of the destruction of life. Go ahead make it for yourself but do not make me say it is right. It is not. A natural death is a part of life. Your state as a creature is a fact and a gift not to be abused by your whimps. You might have heard of Nasa's comment about the first trillionth of a second of the beginning of the Universe: http://www.nasa.gov/home/hqnews/2006/mar/HQ06097firsttrillionthWMAP.html. Well from there you could reason that there is a creator. Or from beauty, goodness and love. It is not superstition but well founded observation of nature through science and the actions of this loving creator through history. It comes from above and is a better foundation than what grafton thinks or myself for that matter.

My Father died last July and people called it a Happy Death. Sounds like an Oxymoron. May we all have one. On Holy Saturday it is said that God and the son of Eve traveled to Hades and preached the Good News and freed the prisoners there of the chains of death. The just that is or those that believed. For all time, for all places, for all history. We just have to make it through those last scary moments my ourselves (creator is there of course) because no one wants to join us. Wonder why?

Can we end suffering by euthanasia?

A number of people are saying that they should be able to end their own lives if they so desire. When they feel that life has become too burdensome or that their suffering is too much, then, in their opinion, they should be permitted to commit suicide. They argue that if someone considers his life useless and bereft of meaning, he should not be denied his desire to kill himself, or to have someone help to kill him.

The Church, while deeply concerned as Jesus is about anyone who suffers, offers a clear and consistent rebuttal of such assertions. We read, for example, in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (#2277): “Whatever its motives and means, direct euthanasia consists in putting an end to the lives of handicapped, sick, or dying persons. It is morally unacceptable. Thus an act or omission which, of itself or by intention, causes death in order to eliminate suffering constitutes a murder gravely contrary to the dignity of the human person and to the respect due to the living God, his Creator. The error of judgment into which one can fall in good faith does not change the nature of this murderous act, which must always be forbidden and excluded.” http://net-abbey.org/euth-olmsted.htm

Pain management exists for those in pain. Things get in a lot of grey areas in individual cases though. We just have to do our best to make sure the dignity of human life is preserved. Suffering! How does one approach it? It is Holy Week and is a good time for reflection.

"The US Treasury secretary talks about permanent action and we, at our spring council, were quite alarmed at that . . . The US is repeating mistakes from the 1930s, such as wide-ranging stimuluses, protectionist tendencies and appeals, the Buy American campaign, and so on," he told a European parliament session in Strasbourg. "All these steps, their combination and their permanency, are the road to hell."

Great game. I felt sorry for Ichiro. Such pressure. He came through and acted very cool. Not rubbing it in, but thinking why "I thought of all the wrong things for a Zen experience yet succeeded." He truly came through. I am proud of him. That moment could have made him or broke him. Thank the Good Lord, for he came through for all Japan. Congratulations Japan! I am proud of you.

Blaze thanks for updating smithinjapan. He seems to not want to give a dignified end to the embryos, something he would want for himself. I forgot he was never an embryo or when he was, he was not human and he might not have mind being experimented on. This is not rocket science. We were all embryos.

Some good points TrappedNTokyo about the state of churches. Very often they become stale and holier than thou. Just the same science needs ethics. Just because science can do something, should it?

Pretty close to the truth realist. However it usually breaks down to 30% for, 30% against, 30% don't care. Always a battle.

TrappedNTokyo there is an ethical and moral natural order. By whom? Who ever was there "NASA Satellite Glimpses Universe's First Trillionth of a Second ": http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=19282 .

Everyone of us was a embryo once. What makes some worth sacrificing? Even partially born? Please it is very evident that we are dealing with human life. It must be protected by the "Do not kill" commandment which is written only because so many refuse to listen to the inner voice of the heart that knows these things.

I do not understand. The teacher is teaching an art class, I am supposing and there is a contest which is part of the class. He thinks the girl would make a great model for the contest in a maid's outfit. OK so far. He leaves the room and asks other students to take pictures of her, hopefully in the outfit. OK I would say. However, it looks as though the girl never wanted to be a model in a maid's outfit and the teacher would not listen. He is wrong here and has been admonished. I do not think he is a pervert or anything but someone who is so focused on the goal of winning the contest that he forgot the human element.

Unfortunately, Japan does not change without outside pressure. It took a world war to change it the last time. My boy is being bullied at school and he could rattle the other boy quite well because of his size. No violence I told him. He can protect himself though. I talked to the school. Nice people and teacher. But the system will not change. I do not force him to go to school and he stayed home all last week because of no stress. He went today on his own choice. I am not too worried. The purpose is to learn the language, interact with other children and to have a Japanese experience. Remember there is no failing in the Japanese system. He will be taking online courses for Math and Science in English. I blame the system that refuses to protect kids. First safety and then teach them something. No supervision on playgrounds and no discipline. It is unfortunate for the more timid souls who are singled out. A failure of the Japanese educational system and character.

As for problems at school. If the system watched the kids I would be happy. They don't so there are bullies. They bully everyone. Japanese or not. I just do not want my kid to be a fighter.

Reason Beauty Truth - Reason cannot come from no reason. Then what? Believe in our own or someone else's thought up explanation? Revelation - The author of life is reflected in Nature and is a person as well and has spoken. That I can believe and trust. Yes we live on because it is reasonable and is promised by the one who is. Love is the reason and the reason is love (Trinity).

Hang in there Hollywood. New film "Nine member team takes on the Iranian religious right". The freedom of the press will prevail. Sorry but we need it for a free society. I liked that film "300". Brave souls and they should be remembered. Who here would stand up against Tens of thousands? Never even thought of the modern day Iran. Beautiful people and I hope they evolve to a free state.
